Hi it's Catherine here from Lullaby Lodge
0:02
Today I'm going to show you how to crochet this super cute shades case
0:07
We will learn how to crochet the motifs, how to join them using the join-in-to-go method
0:12
how to seam them together and add a hanging loop. So you need to start with Aaron weight yarn, Aaron or Worcesterweight yarn, and a 3.5mm hook
0:22
We're going to put a slip knot on the hook and chain four
0:29
I'm going to join with a slip stitch to that first chain
0:39
Now you might find working with such a small hook, the yarn feels very slitty when you're working with cotton
0:46
Right, there's chain three. This counts as a double crochet. Now I'm going to go ahead and put 11 double crochet into the ring
0:59
for a total of 12 double crochet then join with a slip stitch to the top of your chain three
1:15
i'm going to carry on with the same color but if you wanted to you could fasten off here
1:20
and join in a new color if you're joining in a new color you want to put your hook in between stitches
1:25
and pull your new color through i'm just going to see slip stitch into that space instead and chain through
1:38
I'm going to put another double crochet into that same space. And then two double crochet into the next space
1:57
And I'm going to go ahead and put. put two double crochet into each space all the way around
2:04
So I've gone all the way around with two double crochet in each space. I'm going to join with a slip stitch to the top of this chain three
2:12
And I'm going to fasten off this colour. Okay, so I'm going to join in my main colour now
2:17
I'm going to put my hook in between group of two clusters of stitches
2:25
Pull my new colour through. chain three and we put two double crochet in the same place which makes a granny cluster
2:46
and then i'm then going to put a granny cluster into each space all the way around so that's
2:51
three double crochet into the next space and in each space around Right let join to the top of that chain three And now we going to shape our motif
3:08
So if you look at this one that I've made here, half of the motif is actually a square
3:13
and the other half is a circle. So first of all going to slip stitch into this next chain space
3:19
So we'll slip stitch into the next two stitches. into that chain space
3:28
I'm going to chain four. This counts as a treble crochet. I'm going to put two more trebles into the same space
3:46
I'm going to chain one. And then three more trebles into that same space
3:55
Next one to put three double crochet into the next space. In the next space, we're going to do another space as well
4:08
So, in the next space we're going to do another corner
4:20
So three trebles, chain one, three trebles. So we've got our two corners here
4:26
In the next two spaces, I'm going to put three double crochet. So regular granny cluster in each of those next two spaces
4:37
In the next space, we're going to put a granite cluster and a double crochet, so that's four double crochet
4:41
and in the next one, and in the next one, two, three spaces
4:56
we can do exactly the same, a granite cluster and a double crochet. Okay, so there's two more spaces left for us to work in
5:01
and we're going to put a granite cluster in each of those, and then join with the slip stitch to the top of that chain four
5:08
and fasten off. Okay, for your glasses case, you need to go ahead and make one more motif exactly the same as this
5:18
And then two motifs only up to round three. Okay, so we've gone ahead and finished up to round three
5:26
I'm then going to slip stitch across to this next space. So let's slip stitch in the next two stitches
5:38
I'm going to chain four for our first treble and we can put two more trebles into that same space
5:49
And now we're ready to start joining to the other motif. So you need to have your motif with the wrong side facing and hold it behind your other motif And look for that first corner there we going to put a hook through there and then just do a slip stitch and then we going to
6:11
do chain one for the corner and then we're going to put three trebles into that same space
6:22
and then we're going to go back to our other motif we're going to look for the next space along
6:27
and do a slip stitch then a granny cluster in the next space
6:36
then look for the next space and slip stitch granny cluster in the next space
6:48
and we're going to join with the slip stitch to the next space again now we're ready to start our next corner so we're going to put three trebles into the next space space
6:58
Find that corner, join with a slip stitch and chain one, and then three more trebles into that same space
7:17
And as you can see there we have joined with the join as you go method
7:25
Now in the rest of the motif you're just going to finish this. off exactly as you did to the first one so the next two spaces regular granite cluster
7:32
and the next four will be a granite cluster plus a double crochet so that's four double
7:36
crochet in the next four two more granite clusters and then join with a slip stitch to the top of your
7:41
chain four once you've joined to that chain four you can fasten off okay so you should
7:47
add up with two pieces like this look at them both and decide which one you want to be the front
7:52
and the back it doesn't really matter whichever one you think looks the neatest I'm going to go with this
7:57
So we're going to have them wrong sides together to start off with just when you're working into this front piece
8:04
Now I'm going to put a slip knot on my hook. Now look where the corner is here and you've got one, two clusters
8:14
We're going to put a single crochet into the first stitch of that third plaster
8:19
Like so. And then I'm going to start working a single crochet into each
8:26
crochet into each stitch around and we're going to keep going until we get to the same place but on the
8:36
opposite side so I've worked around and as you can see my last single crochet is gone into that
8:41
last stitch of that cluster there and then there's two more clusters we haven't worked into
8:45
we're now going to start working you through both pieces so you need to have a look on the other
8:50
side and find matching stitch so the next stitch will be the first stitch so we want to
8:56
to find that first stitch here so I going to put my hook through and find the first stitch on the other side so your hook is going through both pieces and then single crochet And you going to do this for every stitch
9:14
All the way around, back to the beginning. When you get to the corners of the granny square
9:19
you're going to put your single crochet into that corner space, into the corner space on the other side, single crochet
9:29
We're also going to put one in that gap in between the squares where we joined
9:35
And same on the other side. Single crochet. And then into the next corner
9:46
Another single crochet. And then we're going to start working back through the stitches
9:54
Joining both pieces together as we go along. Okay, so I crochet
9:59
all around the piece crocheting both sides together and we're going to end by joining
10:03
into this first single crochet with the slip stitch and then fasten off okay we're now going
10:10
to flip our piece over and if you see here in the last stitch where it was joined where both
10:15
sides were joined together you're going to put your hook in there and join in the yarn
10:21
put the slip stitch and then we're going to start to single crochet around this side so
10:30
we're working a single crochet in each stitch until we get to the centre okay so we're
10:37
at the centre now and you've got space here just between these two groups of
10:41
classes we're going to put a single crochet in there and then I'm going to chain 30
10:51
chain of 30 stitches. Let's be careful not to twist that. We're now going to put a slip stitch into the side of the single crochet
10:59
So put your hook through that loop on the left side and same through the loop back on the left side
11:07
And just put a slip stitch in there. Now, the chain of 30 makes quite a short hanging loop
11:13
If you want to make this longer, you can totally go ahead and do that. We're now going to continue by putting a single crochet in each of the remaining stitches
11:20
take care of this one because it's kind of hidden underneath the other single crochet but make sure you
11:24
work into that one too okay so I worked all the way around I'm just going to finish by putting a slip
11:29
stitch into that stitch here the first one where you can see the two pieces are joined together
11:34
just going to slip stitch in there and then fasten off and move in your end now to close your loop
11:42
take it to the front put it through that top space and then pull your loop through
11:50
centre and there you have your hanging loop. Now this video is part of a holiday in the sun series
11:57
In the next videos I will be showing you how to make a matching air pod case and a matching eye mask
12:03
So be sure to check out those videos next. Bye bye now
