Hi everyone. So on today's video, I'm
0:02
going to be teaching you guys how to do
0:03
a velocity edit on After Effects.
0:05
Velocity edits are incredibly popular on
0:09
Tik Tok. Like you can't scroll 10 videos
0:12
without seeing five. So in this video,
0:14
I've included two methods to do a
0:16
velocity edit. The first one is paid and
0:18
the second one is completely free. And
0:20
just a heads up, yes, I am editing a
0:23
cutscene from Five Nights at Freddy's
0:25
Security Breach. Not only because I love
0:27
Five Nights at Freddy's, but because I
0:29
didn't know what to edit on there. So, I
0:30
was like, "Hm, Security Breach. I see it
0:33
all over Tik Tok. Why not use a clip
0:35
from the game?" So, don't comment on it
0:37
and don't blame me for it. Okay, now
0:39
let's get to the video.
0:44
So, the first thing you want to do is
0:45
switch on frame blending and double
0:47
click the little box under it to get the
0:49
arrow going to the right. Then, drag
0:51
Twixster Pro onto your clip and follow
0:52
my settings. First, you want to change
0:54
the frame rate. Now, I made my frame
0:56
rate 23.900 as that is what looked best
0:58
for me, but you don't have to
1:00
specifically do that number.
1:03
Then, under image prep, you want to
1:05
click contrast/edgeenhance,
1:07
and then you go to frame turpp, select
1:10
motion weighted blend, and then warping
1:12
inverse with smart blend. After you've
1:14
done that, click on the little stopwatch
1:16
next to speed so we can begin to key
1:18
frame it. Now, the first key frame has
1:20
to be slow, so you want to type in 40
1:22
and then click enter.
1:25
Then go to the very next frame of your
1:27
clip and make another key frame. This
1:29
time, type in 330 as this frame has to
1:32
go fast. I just want to quickly mention
1:34
that the 330 speed key frames must be on
1:38
parts of the song where there's a clap
1:40
or a bass hit or something like that. So
1:42
it's on B. After that, you obviously
1:44
want to make another key frame. So just
1:46
go to the next frame, again, typing 40
1:49
on speed and clicking enter. Then you
1:51
just repeat this process until the end
1:53
of your clip. Again, to make sure your
1:55
clip stays on beat, put the 330 speed
1:58
key frames on parts of the song where
2:00
there's a drum hit, a clap, etc. That is
2:03
the most important part of making a
2:05
velocity edit work.
2:07
[Music]
2:20
And that's it. You're done. You think it
2:22
would be hard to make a velocity edit,
2:24
but it's really the easiest thing in the
2:26
world.
2:28
Now, to do this for free, it is a little
2:31
less smooth than if you did it with
2:32
Twix, but it still looks pretty good. To
2:34
do this, you want to right click on your
2:36
clip, go under time, and select freeze
2:38
frame. Again, make sure you have frame
2:40
blending on for this. So, all you really
2:43
have to do for this one is every time
2:45
there's a beat hit or whatever, make a
2:47
key frame and drag the time forward, but
2:49
don't drag it too far ahead. Otherwise,
2:51
it'll warp like crazy, and no velocity
2:53
editor wants that.
2:58
[Music]
3:05
Once you're done making your key frames
3:07
in the middle, go right to the end of
3:09
your clip and make a key frame. Then
3:11
drag the time forward to about the end
3:13
of the clip.
3:15
[Music]
3:17
Once you're done key framing, you want
3:19
to select all of your key frames, right
3:21
click on your mouse, go under key frame
3:23
assistant, and select easy ease. And now
3:25
it's time for the scary bit. Graphing.
3:28
I'm just playing. It's pretty easy.
3:31
Once you get the hang of it, it's it's
3:33
like blinking. Anyways, just copy what
3:37
I'm doing on screen right now.
3:41
It's kind of hard to explain, but you
3:44
basically just want to make a wave shape
3:46
where the left line is going up and the
3:48
right line is going down. The reason you
3:50
want to do your graphs like this when
3:52
you're making a velocity edit is because
3:54
that little wave in the middle is where
3:56
it goes slow. And when it's going up and
3:59
down from left to right, that is when
4:02
it's going fast. Once you're done with
4:04
those graphs, you're done. That is how
4:07
you do a velocity edit on After Effects
4:09
for free.
4:11
And that's it. That is how you do a
4:13
velocity edit on After Effects. As I
4:15
said, velocity edits are extremely
4:18
popular right now. and they're my
4:20
favorite kind of edit right now. So, I
4:22
decided to make a tutorial on it and I
4:24
hope it helped you guys. Anyways, have
4:25
fun editing and I'll see you guys in the
4:27
next video. Let me know if you'd like to
4:29
do more edit tutorials in the future and
4:32
I will do them because I love editing.
4:34
It's still my biggest hobby and these
4:36
videos are fun to make. So, just comment
4:38
if you want me to do more and I'll get
4:40
to it. one. Bye, guys.
