How to Work The Half Double Crochet HDC Stitch | How To Crochet For Beginners
What is a Half Double Crochet Stitch? The Half Double Crochet stitch (HDC) in US terms is also known as the Half Treble Crochet (HTC) in UK terms. It is one of the most useful basic stitches you will need as beginner crocheter. It's a really simple stitch that gives a substantial fabric with good drape for clothing, blankets, scarves and hats. Learning how to crochet the half double crochet stitch (or half treble crochet if you're using UK terms) is a medium height stitch which gives more drape than the single crochet stitch (UK double crochet stitch). You will see it abbreviated as HDC (or HTC if using UK terms) on your patterns. In this tutorial I’m going to teach you (really slowly, cos who wants to keep pressing pause?) how to make your first HDC stitches so you'll be a crochet pro in no time! I'll show you how to create your first row of half double crochet and then how to make your turning chain and move onto your second row. We will also talk about the differences between Single Crochet and Half Double Crochet. If you aren't sure how to create your foundation chain you can find out here: https://youtu.be/2CobLbs5qTk If you want to learn Single Crochet (US) or Double Crochet (UK) first, you can find that here: https://youtu.be/Ow4LZiYtB38 Master this and you're off to CroPro ninja status. So grab your hook and a ball of yarn, cos you're about to learn! Don't worry if you don't quite get it even on the first few stitches, it just takes a bit of practice - but word of warning, crochet is like those potato chips you get in a tube - once you start you can't stop!!!
