Church forces its members to marry strangers they never met
Feb 28, 2025
The Unification Church, or "moonies," founded by Reverend Sun Myung Moon, is known for mass weddings where complete strangers are matched by the church and married on the spot. Followers see Rev Moon as the messiah, and him and his wife as the “true parents” of humanity, while former members label the Church a dangerous cult that financially exploits its victims. The group gained notoriety after Japan's president Shinzo Abe was assassinated, as his killer revealed to have unexpected, and incriminating, ties to the Church.
