The lemon here is so delicious
0:02
Let's get this one again. This is a mix of the neck of the lamb with rice and bone broth that has been boiled for over 20 hours
0:14
Grec is lamb's intestine. Good morning everybody. Today I'm starting the day super early
0:21
Today I'm heading on a food tour. Turkish food is some of my favourite in the whole world and I cannot wait to get started
0:28
So I'm kicking things off here over on the European side. Later I'll head to the Asian side
0:32
But let me start here in the spice market and discover exactly what it has to offer
0:37
Spice Bazaar is one of the largest bazaars here in Istanbul, selling anything from textiles, desserts and spices
0:45
Okay, so I'm here in the spice market, one of the oldest markets in the world
0:49
And surprisingly, Turkish food, especially for me, is not that spicy. Although they have a huge array of spices
0:54
In Turkey, the food and the flavour is more about the depth and the flavour is incredible
1:00
I can't wait to show you what we're going to taste today. So we've just come outside the spice market, it's just started raining
1:12
So we've stopped here at the cheese market. We're going to pick up some local, traditional cheese so we can have it with our morning breakfast
1:19
Here in Turkey, breakfast is celebrated. Okay, we just got to this place here, Sete Bufa, for breakfast
1:29
As you know, Turkish breakfast is one of the best meals of the day, so let's go and check it out. Bravo
1:35
Breakfast in Turkey is a beautiful spread of cheeses, dried meats, olives, nut butters
1:41
honeys and clotted creams, sujuk and chai, as well as menemen, a mix of eggs, tomatoes
1:47
peppers and spices. Of course, no breakfast in Turkey is served without menemen
1:52
The menemen here is so delicious. Let's get this one again. Incredible
2:02
So good. Okay, we've just finished that delicious Turkish breakfast
2:17
and now it's time for breakfast number two. Here is a very traditional Turkish soup
2:22
This is biran This is a mix of the neck of the lamb with rice and bone broth that has been boiled for over 20 hours It smells incredible Let give it a go
2:40
Wow! The depth of that flavour is incredible. You can taste every single element
2:46
Okay now I've had those beautiful two breakfasts. That soup was delicious
2:51
We're now going to jump on the ferry and head back over to the Asian side and explore more food
2:57
I'll tell you how amazing this day has been so far. You guys know food is the key to my heart
3:02
And Turkish food definitely fulfills all of those needs. Let's go for Asia
3:17
Okay, we've just arrived in Kerekoe. Let's go see what they have. Okay, so the first stop here in Keriköy is Kebabçi Iskender
3:31
Now, if you watched the Busa video a few months ago, I actually went to the original birthplace
3:35
of Iskender, but we're here at the restaurant here in Istanbul. This guy founded it
3:41
Iskender is one of Turkey's most popular dishes, made from thinly cut grilled lamb with a tomato
3:45
sauce on top of pita bread, with yogurt and melted sheets milk butter
3:51
Wow, it does taste like wine. Mmm. Ok, let's get this right
4:00
Smells incredible. Wow, that meat is so rich and paired with the hot butter sauce on top. Incredible
4:15
This here is the yogurt they pair this with. Let's try it together
4:19
Oh yeah. Wow. It's incredible. Thank you. Okay, I'm walking through the market now
4:38
You can see this fresh fruit and veg. Smells so good. So fresh, so delicious
4:45
Prices are very, very cheap though and affordable. So many cherries. We just come into a traditional pickle shop
5:04
They have this huge array of pickles. When did this start? 200 years. Wow
5:09
And I've just got myself a pickle juice. I've heard a lot about this. People say it's a very acquired taste
5:15
Okay so the first taste is very weird but the aftertaste is really good
5:25
Inside there's so many pickled vegetables, there's beetroot, onions, plums, cabbage, nithium, grape molasses and tahini
5:33
Both mixed together with simit in the morning for breakfast, it's one of my favourite things, it's so good
5:37
So if you're in Turkey, those two together, we'll sim it in the morning, try it. So this here, hazelnuts
5:43
I had no idea they came from this. This guy here is just peeling them
5:47
So these ones here, they have a pointy edge. So they're actually from the Western Black Sea. And if they're more rounded, which are more common here
5:52
they're from the Eastern Black Sea. Oh yeah, very good. Kind of bitter
6:01
The next stop is Ciyo Safrasi, a place actually featured on Chef's Table here in Turkey
6:06
And we're going to get a mix of hummus, tabbule, salma, lamb with eggplant, beef with cherries, fresh bread
6:12
and of course, some sweet desserts. Okay, to start this feast, we're starting with
6:17
Italy Kofta. This is bulgur wheat on the outside, deep fried, and inside is minced meat
6:22
Wow, the bulgur on the outside, really good. The minced meat is super salty
6:27
Okay, next up we've got Lacanzone. This is so good. It's incredible
6:35
Really crispy base with mixed ground beef on top with tomatoes, so much lemon on top, it's incredible
6:42
The guy who actually owns this restaurant is from Gaziantep and Gaziantep apparently has the best baklava in Turkey
6:49
And then we have some other delicious sweet treats on here. I've had a lot of baklava, as you know, in my time
6:54
So let's see how good it actually is. I'm going in with the baklava first. Go for it
7:01
Okay, he's right. That's one of the best baklavas I've had. The pastry melts in your mouth
7:07
and it's not overpoweringly sweet. That is very, very, very good. The quality of butter
7:13
So this is some sort of candied fruit. I have no idea what it is. Let's see if we can try it
7:18
That's a whole bunch. That is completely different to what I thought it would taste like Apricot I don know It pumpkin It pumpkin Yeah
7:41
Okay, let's get into the late afternoon now. I've nonstop ate all day
7:49
This is Rex's Cockerach here in Kelukui. The final stop is Cockerach and Midye
7:54
Midye is basically mussels. With a lot of lemon, Cockerach is lamb's intestine
8:01
Let's give it a go. I've had Cockerach before and I did not enjoy
8:05
but apparently this is one of the best places to get it. Let's go with the mussels first
8:09
This is filled with rice, black pepper, cumin, and so many other spices with a ton of lemon on top
8:19
Wow. These are perfect. And you can get them from anywhere between 1 and 2 lira
8:28
All around Istanbul. And this is the cockereck. This is the lamb intestine
8:35
With a lot of spices. I'm a little bit apprehensive. Okay, that's actually really good
8:47
The last one I had was not good. This one incredible, so if you're gonna have it definitely come to this spot
8:53
And of course I have to have Iran one of my favorite drinks. This is a salty yogurt drink for anyone who doesn't know
8:59
Delicacy here in Turkey. Most find it in a quiet taste, but I really love it
9:06
Okay, I'm back in Europe I just took the ferry over it's time to end the food tour. I've eaten so much I can barely walk
9:12
I have been to Turkey many times, but for some reason I've never tried all of those same foods in one day
9:18
and a lot of things I have never eaten so it was really amazing thank you so much to that food tour company for taking me
9:26
it was amazing if you guys want to do it I'll put it down in the description box
9:30
I highly recommend the best food tour in Istanbul for sure hope you enjoyed this video stay safe stay happy see you soon
