I'm going to show you how to do
0:02
something that my dad taught me years
0:03
ago there's no point me showing you why
0:06
this doesn't work cuz it's a bve that
0:08
doesn't work so this is how not without
0:11
screwdriver this is how to
0:14
fix Old Spring Light
0:19
fittings these older type light fittings
0:21
that one doesn't work either this is
0:23
ridiculous let's try again with a
0:25
flatted screwdriver see what goes on
0:27
there right these old type light fitting
0:30
are sprung and they've got like a a
0:32
sprung base that pushes onto the bulb
0:35
and creates a
0:37
contact if a car's been sat for a long
0:39
time or if the seals in a light have
0:42
been leaking you can find that those
0:45
contacts get broken cuz they get
0:49
rusted my phone's
0:54
pinging so I always like to get a cloth
0:57
when I'm doing anything like this cuz
0:58
these light lenses these quite fragile
1:00
old things it's been around for a while
1:02
I like to get a cloth and then I can
1:04
just put it in
1:05
there the bulb that I've got an issue
1:07
with
1:09
is this one indicator bulb so let's show
1:14
you how that's looking in
1:17
there crusty and
1:20
minging you can tell that's not going to
1:22
work and make a good connection so what
1:24
we need to do is we need to clean up all
1:26
around the outside of here and that
1:28
little plate in the middle there
1:30
that's what sits
1:32
against the end of the
1:38
bulb behind here you've got this little
1:40
sprung piece here if I push this you see
1:43
it Springs in and out to get this out
1:47
Bend this tab try not to break it and
1:50
then gently push it through the
1:54
light now I'm going to hook this out of
1:57
here
2:00
like that and you've got a
2:03
spring what we need to do is we need to
2:06
clean up the inside of there clean up
2:09
all of the faces that make contact on
2:11
here and then put it all back
2:14
together I've used a piece of Emory on
2:17
the end of a brush but you can get what
2:20
you want poke that in
2:25
there give it a good clean
2:28
up you want to use that Emory to clean
2:32
this little contact up you want to get
2:35
this nice and shiny you don't want any
2:38
corrosion on
2:40
it cuz then you'll get a good electrical
2:45
[Music]
2:51
contact this is a 2-minute job honestly
2:55
the number of times that I see poor
2:57
connections and issues with lights and
3:01
stuff it could be very easily resolved
3:03
this is just general maintenance this is
3:05
what people used to do in the' 60s and
3:12
70s got a nice connection on there now
3:14
so then what you want to do is you want
3:16
to get this which is the little
3:18
insulator backing
3:19
plate hook that
3:22
through so that it's in the middle like
3:27
that then put the spring on the back
3:31
like that so you've got the whole thing
3:34
Zoom you got the whole thing assembled
3:37
like
3:40
that there you go push it through with
3:43
your finger you can see we've got a nice
3:45
spring there see if this will stand
3:49
up no it won't so now what we're going
3:52
to do is we're going to bend that tab
3:56
there back around
4:01
plug that back in I've probably bent
4:04
that a little bit too far actually let's
4:07
go about there there you
4:09
go now it's
4:12
Square then when you put the bulb in the
4:15
bulb will compress the
4:19
spring and that should
4:21
work I hope you found this video
4:25
Illuminating I sure did that's loads
4:28
brighter than it was before and it
4:30
actually works
