Organic Baked Falafel Recipe
Introduction
Falafel is a beloved Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas or fava beans, spiced and shaped into balls or patties, then traditionally fried. This organic baked version offers a healthier alternative without sacrificing flavor. Perfect as a snack or a main dish, these baked falafels are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
Ingredients
1 can (15 oz) organic chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
½ tsp baking powder
½ cup whole wheat flour or chickpea flour
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Preparation
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Blend Ingredients: In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper. Process until you achieve a coarse, slightly grainy texture. Add baking powder and flour, and pulse until well combined.
Form Falafel: Using your hands or a small cookie scoop, shape the mixture into 1-inch balls or patties. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
