beef stew recipe
**Ingredients:**
- 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine (optional)
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 4 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
**Instructions:**
1. Season the beef cubes with salt and pepper, then dredge them in flour, shaking off any excess.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes in batches and brown them on all sides. Remove the beef and set it aside.
