Mary Grant. Lovely, lovely bar. You guys
0:06
should visit a little bit more often. Um
0:08
it's down the road for me. So find
0:09
myself here back home in most instances.
0:13
But Julius is a fantastic host. Plenty
0:16
amazing wines, whisies, tequilas, beers,
0:20
etc. But also he's a chef, you know. So
0:23
most amazing. Yes, we are here at Mary
0:27
Go. The guests have arrived for our
0:28
first VIP event of South Africa wine
0:31
tasting from South African wine seller
0:36
here at Merrygoround with Julius our
0:39
host who's cooking today.
0:41
Here we go. Keep watching folks. More to
0:44
come. And we're off. We're here again at
0:47
Merry Go Round in Siglet having the
0:49
South African wine celler wine tasting.
0:52
The very first life recipe. And we're
0:55
off with this beautiful rosΓ©.
0:58
It's probably gonna reverse it. This is
1:00
Bossman. This actually comes from
1:01
Wellington in South Africa, which is
1:03
approximately two hours from Cape Town.
1:06
Um, it is absolutely gorgeous. We've
1:09
just had it like almost frozen. Um, I
1:12
would say you can have this any time of
1:13
the day. It's crisp. It's It's citrus.
1:15
Um Oh, it's guzzle juice. It's just
1:18
absolutely delicious. A little known
1:20
fact as well, Bossman, the actual um the
1:22
winery gave 26% of equity on this on
1:26
this um beautiful product back to the
1:29
employees. And I think that is just an
1:31
amazing story. So, there's another
1:33
reason to buy some of this absolute
1:34
deliciousness, which I think you could
1:36
probably drink 24 hours a day. Bottle
1:38
number two coming up shortly. What a
1:40
great start to a day. Don't forget,
1:42
like, subscribe, and you'll keep getting
1:43
more videos coming through on this.
1:45
If you look at the glass, you look at
1:47
it, you'll see the bubbles sort of
1:49
sort of rising.
1:51
[Music]
1:58
This is Claudia which uh as we all know
2:01
cannot be called champagne. Um so this
2:04
is a brew. It comes from a place in
2:06
South Africa that has a literal
2:07
translation of heaven on earth. Don't
2:10
you just love that? Um this has been
2:12
fermenting for 72
2:16
months. So nearly seven years. And it's
2:18
a very special process where the yeast
2:21
is actually fermenting it in the bottle
2:23
and then they turn the bottle, turn the
2:25
bottle and it ends up face down and then
2:27
they freeze the yeast, pull it out, top
2:29
up with some more juice, seal it and
2:32
then sell it. So it's quite unique but
2:33
it's made in the same way as champagne
2:35
would be. So this is Claudia from South
2:39
African wine. Here we go.
2:45
Oh my gosh, I'll tell you what. That's
2:47
as good as any I've had, even being in
2:49
the Champagne region of France, which is
2:51
fun enough where my first son was
2:53
conceived.
2:55
And if you want more crap like that and
2:57
more stories, please like, subscribe.
3:00
Next bottle coming up soon. And next up,
3:02
we've got music now. And Jude joins us.
3:04
Say hi, Jude. Clearly not part of the
3:06
wine tasting, but uh we visit now
3:09
Stelenbos in uh I think it's in Durban.
3:12
Um, and this is a beautiful uh beautiful
3:16
absolutely stunning Samuel Blanc um by
3:18
Carvin Stevens. I mean, check this out.
3:21
Bottle designed by her daughter right
3:22
here as well. So, um, been compared to
3:27
the sort of the Marbers. Um, so, you
3:29
know, the oyster bays of the world. Goes
3:31
really well with fish. Goes really well
3:32
with oysters, funny enough. So, get some
3:34
some prawns on the barbecue, some spicy
3:36
prawns cuz this is just like a palette
3:38
cleanser. Very acidic. Um, beautiful
3:42
sort of almost fruity. I don't know. I'm
3:44
picking up a bit of mango in the back
3:46
there, but it's just so crisp. It's so
3:48
light. It's just absolutely delicious.
3:50
Um, yeah. Con Steven Stellen Bosch. Just
3:54
check it out.
3:57
It's an absolute stunner. Keep watching.
3:59
More bottles to come. I don't know
4:01
what's going on here. South African wine
4:03
seller is treating us righty as you can
4:05
see. So is our friends from Merry Go
4:08
around. The food is flowing. The wine is
4:10
flowing. What an awesome Saturday.
4:12
Sunday. Saturday. See, I've never
4:14
forgotten the date. Massively impressed
4:16
with this cuz I just keep drinking wine
4:17
and I have to keep doing videos.
4:19
Spencer's got me under the thumb for it.
4:20
Next up, we have this beautiful thing
4:22
called So, it's from the Boston family
4:24
again. So, remember that first one we
4:25
had, the rosΓ©. This one's called a
4:27
dammer. It's a 2022. Let me just um say
4:30
a damma means from the sale. I love
4:34
that. um which is basically the nickname
4:37
of the Adam Apollus I think it says here
4:40
which is the legendary patriarch of
4:41
families who have been growing wines
4:43
with the Boston family over many
4:45
generations. The interesting thing about
4:46
this one it's got seven yes seven
4:52
different wine variats. I mean it's
4:55
incredible. The prominent one is is a
4:57
shar. Um but when you sit this thing
4:59
it's kind of like you're confused. You
5:00
think it's a pino. You think it's it's
5:02
just crazy. But the the dominant one is
5:04
a shir. Again, it's a very light one
5:07
designed to be chilled. Um and therefore
5:09
for Singapore, this thing is just off
5:11
the charts. Good. Right.
5:16
Oh my goodness gracious. Five things.
5:18
What was it? Swill. Sniff.
5:21
Sip.
5:23
That's right. Five things. Swill. Sniff.
5:28
Very good. And then you got to sit. And
5:30
then you got to and then swallow five
5:33
things. The five S's as we're being
5:34
instructed here today. Keep watching. I
5:37
think we got more wine to come. Please
5:39
subscribe below and you'll find out
5:41
what's coming before anybody else.
5:47
Halfway there. Whites down. Uh can you
5:50
believe it? We're into the reds. And um
5:53
first up we gone for this. So we've gone
5:55
for this basically uh our friends from
5:58
uh South Africa Wine Seller have given
6:01
us this one. It's an Oxdale.
6:03
See this this is absolutely gorgeous
6:05
221. Um this is seven generations
6:11
winery. Um so it's been wine in in South
6:14
Africa been going about 350 years. Go
6:16
figure, right? Um so this this winery
6:19
itself has been going since 1847. So
6:21
seven generations. This is a caps and
6:24
sins salt. Um grape. So the sins salt
6:27
makes it quite light, you know. So it is
6:29
a caps, but that addition there of this
6:32
um this sins salt just it's stunning. It
6:35
really is. It's from Schlankhook, I
6:36
think it is, in South Africa. It's
6:39
beautiful. Right. This stuff you could
6:41
tip and tip and tip. You're not going to
6:43
get, you know, massively overbearing
6:46
cabs which is going to kind of ruin your
6:48
evening. This stuff I could drink this
6:50
all freaking night.
6:53
Oh, it's the case in hand is at the
6:55
moment all afternoon. It's totally
6:57
delicious. Really floral. Beautiful.
7:01
Beautiful taste. I'm going to buy some
7:03
of this one. Keep watching. There's uh I
7:06
don't know another three bottles to
7:07
come. Woohoo. Hopefully I can still
7:09
talk. If you want to see the next
7:10
bottles, give us a subscribe and you'll
7:12
know when they're coming. Thank you. On
7:14
we're on to
7:17
the ladybird. Okay. So this is
7:21
sustainable um white. So basically it's
7:24
vegan and it's organic. So no pesticides
7:27
and it doesn't get filtered uh through
7:30
egg white which is how wines are
7:31
normally um filtered. Um so consequently
7:35
you can see the color of this is a bit
7:36
darker though. Look at that. Um quite
7:39
amazing. And also it does actually take
7:42
some of the liquid away by not filtering
7:44
it through egg white. So consequently
7:46
that's why you pay a bit more for
7:47
organic. Okay.
7:50
It's
7:50
got a hint of Chardonnay on there,
7:52
but this is beautiful. So, this is
7:53
Ladybird. It comes from um Shenimin
7:55
Blanc, which is on the Western Cape.
7:57
This is a 2019.
7:59
Um it's just absolutely freaking
8:01
gorgeous. It's another white here from
8:04
from South Africa and our mates in South
8:06
Africa, African wine seller. It's just
8:09
crisp and it's gorgeous. I'm not a mad
8:11
lover of um Chardonnay. I find it too
8:14
woody, like really heavily woody. This
8:16
one, albeit it's kind of got a little
8:18
bit of a shard there.
8:23
It's not overpowering. It's totally
8:26
totally gorgeous. So, the ladybird,
8:28
highly recommend it, and it's
8:29
sustainable, which is great. So, keep
8:32
watching. More to come. And please like,
8:34
subscribe, and then you'll know when
8:36
more is coming.
8:37
Wow. Keep pushing on. Keep pushing on.
8:39
And we're on to another road. This is um
8:41
I'm so going to do South Africa
8:43
disservice with my pronunciation. So I
8:45
do apologize. Lama shock I think it's
8:48
called very dry. It's very arid. Um this
8:51
is a reserve from 2018. Um
8:56
from Zvat land it's incredible name.
8:59
Right. But I tell you this is killer.
9:02
It's it's called a sira. Um, so it's
9:05
kind of a Shiraz, but it's not the punch
9:06
of Shiraz, which, you know, you get
9:08
smacked around the face by really,
9:10
really powerful kind of berries. This
9:12
one is, I don't know how it does it.
9:14
It's still got it, you know, still got
9:15
blackberry and raspberry and, you know,
9:19
many other berries. Black pepper, white
9:21
pepper. It's still got that, but it's
9:23
lighter. And what our mates from uh
9:27
South Africa wine seller have done is
9:28
they've chilled this as well, you know,
9:30
which we love in Singapore. We love a
9:31
chilled red, we love a chilled white.
9:34
It's absolute killer.
9:36
It It's It's just absolutely stunning.
9:38
Truly is.
9:44
[Music]
9:45
It's not.
9:47
You don't get that real kind of dry. I
9:50
think it was described as sometimes the
9:51
tannins in like a heavy sh will give you
9:53
like a dry taste here or dry seasoning
9:55
here. You don't get that with this. It's
9:58
so much lighter. And again, this is
10:01
dangerously amazing tip juice. So, yeah,
10:04
get get this bad boy in your life. This
10:07
is worth a go. Um,
10:10
I can't say it. I can't say it.
10:12
Spencer's going to tell me off, but I'm
10:13
not going to say it. But just, you know,
10:14
there's something below. There's two
10:15
things you do, and then I'll I'll do
10:18
more of this uh nonsense. Thank you.
10:21
Cheers. Okay, final throngs
10:24
of what I think was one of the most
10:26
amazing wine tasting sessions with South
10:29
African wine sellers.
10:32
The legend that is and our friends at
10:35
Mary go around Julius at the back there.
10:39
I'll tell you what, that was
10:40
exceptional. And we got a bit of Fred
10:42
again banging in the background now. and
10:47
on my final glass. I think we've been at
10:49
two two and a half hours now wine
10:52
tasting and it's just been exceptional.
10:54
So please, you need to join the next is
10:58
like a recipe
11:01
tasting experience where we could be
11:02
doing some whisies. We are definitely
11:04
going to be doing tequilas and mezcows
11:06
at various locations across Singapore.
11:09
But you have to subscribe to find out
11:11
where these are going to be so that we
11:13
can issue you an invite and you can
11:15
attend. So
11:17
you know where it is. It's down below.
11:19
So get on it. Wonderful day. Um, I can't
11:22
thank our friends, our guests, our VOPs
11:26
enough
