There was no pivotal apocalyptic event to speak of; only the cruel march of time and the inexplicable infertility of the world, which comes to life via the game’s conscious artistic approach to recreate PSX-level graphics from past gaming eras. Accursed creatures stalk the defoliated lands between settlements, which are themselves terrible places; squalid, medieval and mostly ruled by tyrants. Putting players in the role of party leader, it’s up to you to determine who joins your party of up to six - there are plenty willing to work, but choosing who is most fit for your battles may mean the difference between success and failure.
