Your first sentence should be a topic sentence, which is a sentence that paraphrases the question being asked. By doing this with your first sentence, it will help you focus on the main topic. Having a strong topic sentence will also show variety in your writing. Never put your opinion in the first sentence of your essay. Instead, state the topic and let your opinion come in later on. Strategies to write your first sentence include using synonyms, verb transformations, and sentence restructuring. In the question given, highlight key words and verbs and find synonyms for these words in order to paraphrase. You can also use the noun form of a verb and then restructure the sentence using this noun. Avoid personal pronouns in your first sentence as well.
