In this video, I'd like to answer the recent IELTS Speaking Part 1 topic questions about colors and memory
0:07
My name is Julius. Let's begin. Let's talk about colors. What is the most popular color in your country
0:17
Oh, that's a surprising question. I don't know. I guess white because most students in state schools wear a white uniform
0:27
That sounds pretty lame, but honestly, I just don't know the most popular color in our country
0:34
I'm not sure about this because I think every single person in this country has their own color preferences
0:41
Also, there's no research or study that talks about the most liked color among the citizens of this country
0:48
So, I can only give an assumption. I assume the colors of our flag are the most popular colors in this country
0:56
They're white, red, yellow, and blue. Do you think colors influence you
1:04
Absolutely. I feel confident if I wear bold colors such as red and yellow
1:10
And I feel low whenever I put on a gray shirt. So, I avoid wearing that kind of color especially when I go through some hardship in life
1:21
as that only makes me feel so down. Yes, and I think that's pretty normal. I feel neat if I wear something white
1:30
I feel fresh if I wear something green and I feel calm if I wear something blue
1:36
I think each color can be associated with an emotional response. What are the differences between men and women's preferences in color
1:47
My answer is stereotypical because I was once brainwashed by society. Men choose colors that are darker like red and black because those colors make them appear more masculine
2:01
While women prefer brighter colors such as light yellow, baby pink, peach, and something like that
2:09
because those colors make them look feminine. I know my answer sounds ignorant but that's what our society taught us when we're just children
2:19
And that's funnily ignorant. I think there's no difference at all especially in this generation where everyone can express themselves freely
2:29
and everyone can be creative. Everyone can like any color regardless of their gender
2:35
Men can like colors that women like and vice versa. What color of car would you choose to buy
2:44
If I have the means to buy a car, I'll definitely choose a lighter color
2:48
because that kind of color doesn't absorb so much heat contrary to darker colors
2:55
So I'll choose either a white car or a silver one. My current car is color red and I love it
3:04
However, if I get a chance to buy another car, I'll definitely choose a blue color because that's actually my favorite color
3:13
Well, I wanted to get a blue car when I bought my first car
3:17
However, that color wasn't available and the sales agent told me that I had to wait for 3 months
3:24
if I really wanted to get a blue car but I couldn't wait any longer
3:31
Let's talk about memory. What do you need to remember in your daily life
3:38
As I'm on medication, I need to remember to take meds at a specific time
3:43
so I can function normally in my everyday life. Aside from that, I need to remember to throw my trash outside
3:51
otherwise my condo unit will stink and become filthy. I always remember to eat on time because if I miss eating any meal at the right time
4:00
I get severe headaches and experience hypotension. That's something I hate to experience because it's incredibly uneasy
4:10
Also, I have to remember to turn off the lights and plug out any home appliances before leaving
4:16
as that's my way to save energy. How do you remember important things
4:24
I make sure to always make a to-do list before I hit the hay since I'm forgetful
4:31
So, those very important things that I have to do are listed on a notepad
4:36
Well, making a to-do list has become a habit of mine and I can say that I've never been so productive
4:43
I've been doing this since I started working and my life has definitely changed for the better
4:50
I simply set an alarm in my calendar app on my smartphone
4:55
I set the alarm a day before I need to do the important thing and on the day that I have to do it
5:01
I set the alarm twice as I don't want to miss it
5:05
Doing such has made my memory active. Are you good at memorizing things
5:12
I believe I am because I developed the skill of memorizing when I was an elementary school student
5:20
My teacher in primary school made us play different memory games which I really enjoyed
5:26
and because of that, I made my brain active and developed my memory skills
5:32
Unfortunately not, I'm bad at it. I remember when I was a student, I didn't perform really well in my exams
5:39
especially when the exams had something to do with recalling dates or special events
5:45
Also these days, I've become forgetful about so many things. I guess I'm aging
5:52
Have you ever forgotten something important? Yes, I ain't superhuman to remember every single thing in my life
6:00
Recently, I forgot to pay my credit card on time because I was so busy with my work and other personal matters
6:08
and as a result, I got penalized. Because of that experience, I decided to auto-pay my credit card so I wouldn't miss paying again
6:18
Yes, definitely, there were so many instances when I forgot to do something important
6:23
such as forgetting to take my camera with me when I traveled abroad
6:27
forgetting to call an important client, forgetting to send a project proposal and many more
6:34
As I'm forgetful, I make it a habit to write the things that I have to do in my journal
6:39
so I won't miss doing them. That's an important lesson I learned
6:44
