These Actors Secretly Hated Working With Their Directors
Jul 27, 2026
Filmmaking can be a stressful process, and even the biggest names in Hollywood don't always see eye to eye. From creative clashes to difficult personalities, some directors have earned a reputation for making their sets a challenging place to work.
David O. Russell has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most talented but controversial filmmakers. During the making of 1999’s ‘Three Kings,’ he had a major falling out with George Clooney, culminating in a famous on-set fight. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly just after the movie's release, Clooney stated that he would never work with Russell again, although he still praised Russell’s talent and filmmaking ability.
Joel Schumacher also had his share of conflicts, especially while making ‘Batman Forever.’ His relationship with Val Kilmer became so tense that they reportedly stopped speaking for weeks after a heated confrontation on set. Schumacher later told Entertainment Weekly that the silent treatment "was bliss."
