He brought those same sci-fi sensibilities to 2011's ‘Cowboys & Aliens.’ Based on a graphic novel, it was produced under Spielberg’s DreamWorks banner and directed by Jon Favreau. Starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, it mixed Western and sci-fi ideas but underperformed at the box office despite a strong cast and input from Spielberg. Spielberg also executively produced ‘True Grit,’ the Coen brothers’ remake of the classic John Wayne Western.
