Not every celebrity comes from a Hollywood family. In fact, some of the biggest stars were raised by parents with surprisingly normal jobs. For Margot Robbie, Hollywood was a long way from home. Growing up in rural Australia, she was raised primarily by her mother, a physiotherapist, after her father left when she was young. Robbie spent part of her childhood helping out on the family farm, and years later, after landing her breakout role in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ she used her earnings to pay off her mom’s mortgage. Leonardo DiCaprio was also raised outside the Hollywood system. His mother worked as a legal secretary, while his father was an underground comic book writer and distributor. DiCaprio has credited his dad with exposing him to creativity from an early age, often taking him to comic book stores and introducing him to local artists. And for Dolly Parton, life growing up was centered around hard work. Her father worked as a sharecropper before farming tobacco on his own land while also taking construction jobs to help support the family. Parton has often pointed to her father’s determination and dedication as a major influence on her own approach to success.
