Does Nebraska football need a new OC? Plus Predictions for Ohio State

Hey, Oscar fans. Welcome back to the Husker Big Red podcast. I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is my co-host, Danny Gillette. We're back here on this Thursday afternoon. We're going to look ahead to Nebraska football in Ohio State. We're going to talk about whatever that press conference was with Marcusfull. We're going to get into that and just kind of look ahead to this game and a little bit, you know, at the future for this Nebraska program. Thursday. I'm doing okay. It's actually like 75 degrees here, which is rare for October, so it's

helping my mood a little bit. It's helping my mood following this week that has been Nebraska

football. And yeah, I was just wondering where you got that nice polo. I know you wear it all

a time, but I'm like, I need to get one of those because I'm not wearing any Nebraska gear. I think it was the old fanatics probably. Yeah, it's where the, so yeah, I need to, and I was

wanting to get a Dylan Ryola jersey hopefully you know i can still get one of those and it'll be

you know i just i'm worried about the future of this team and like i really really

although the number of 15 is pretty timeless in Nebraska football so it would work either way yeah but um speaking of all that i mean i think you know people were obviously freaking out about the offense and all these things And then Marcus Satterfield comes to the podium on what was that Wednesday

That was yesterday, right? Or no, that was Tuesday. Yeah, Tuesday. And, yeah, Tuesday

And there was all, I mean, I don't try to put too much stock into press conferences. I think people can overreact a little bit

But it was a little bit concerning to hear him just have no idea, like, how many yards

per play Nebraska has and that there seemed to be no goal there or no kind of, you know

because it's like if you want to set a goal, I mean, it usually is helpful if you have a goal in mind

you know, and how to achieve, working to achieve that goal. And so I don't know if that's really indicative of Nebraska not having goals or plans or anything

but it just did seem like he was a little bit clueless up there

And his, you know, the production of the offense kind of shows that he's been a little bit clueless too

But what were your thoughts on the whole? Because it's just been on fire on Nebraska Twitter the last day or so about Marcus Satterfield

The fact that he said he wants to run the football more, it's taken him almost two seasons to figure that out

I mean, that was more dry to me than the yards per play. Because let's be honest here, I didn't, like

I don't really know what a good yards per play number is either. But, like, he said four to six

I mean, and that didn't sound terrible to me when you consider, you know, second and six or you know third and four or whatever But the fact that he said he wanted to run the football more and that he needs to do it more I mean this is something that Matt Rule has wanted to do ever since he started his tenure

So I'm wondering if there's conflicting messages there or they're not on the same page

Yeah, that did stick out to me more than the yards per play thing, which, I mean, yeah

it seemed a little strange. It wasn't a great look per se, but, you know, whatever, it's not

I mean, it's kind of a weird question to be asked at a press conference. too, so I can see where I could throw them off a little bit

Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I can see that. Or, I mean, maybe they could have asked him, like, what are some of your team's

offensive goals? I mean, they could have, you know, maybe followed up in a different way. But at any rate, but I do agree that when he talked about the running game and he said

you know, basically that a lot of it's on me and that I don't commit to it and I get

away from it and yada yada. I think maybe that is part of it

I do think they got away from the running game against Indiana. I mean, it's easy when you're down 28 to 7 and you see them scoring

every time. Like, I understand it, but you still have to remember that you have a freshman quarterback

And, I mean, whether you're a freshman or not, if you don't have a running game in the Big Ten

like your life is not going to be easy. Like, put J.J. McCarthy out there without a running game

and it going to be tough Like I don care who you are because defenses in this league I mean it barely short of the NFL in terms of schemes and stuff that they getting around So like if you in third and eight third and nine like you going to get difficult things The quarterbacks are going to see things that are tough

to process. And we kind of saw that, you know, with Dillon, he started trying to press a little bit

So, I mean, at the end of the day, like, as far as Raola goes, like, I'm not super concerned about

you know, the interceptions per se, but I am concerned about, you know, that they've got one

touchdown pass in the last three games and that they don't seem to be able to generate any

explosive plays in the run game or the passing game. And like they've got athletes, but

you know, they just don't know how to really get them the ball. And I mean, last week, they targeted

Jacori Barney 10 times and as long as completion was six yards. Like I just, you know

it just seems like there's a lot of scheming and planning going on that just doesn't make a

whole lot of sense. And it's like, I get that you want to get Jacer Barney the ball. But he is clearly

at least right now, to me, a gadget type of player. And it's like, I'm not sure that he should be

getting 10 targets. You know what I mean? Like we got to figure out something that's reliable in this offense

And, you know, whether it's, you know, going back to the Glenn Thomas thing, when he was talking about how they were going to be, you know, like the 49ers with all

these formations and stuff. Like maybe, maybe the staff is just doing too much with these guys

I don't know, but it doesn't look like there's anything, you know, if this team needs

a drive, like, say
