Asana Free Version Review Better Than Monday.com
0:03
Hey guys, welcome back! In this video, we will be doing a quick review of Asana
0:08
and how it stacks up against Monday.com. Now, we're going to look primarily at the free plans
0:14
of both of these platforms. I'll be going a little bit in depth into Asana, the different features
0:19
and how you can use them. So, let's get into it. Now, the first thing as you guys can see on the
0:25
left panel over here, we have the personal plan on Asana that is available for free. You don't
0:31
have to provide any kind of credit info for this, and you don't have like a trial period. You can
0:35
just use this free forever. Then, in this, you get unlimited essentials. So, you can track as many
0:41
project tasks, activity logs, storage, and comments as you require. Then, you have three basic project
0:47
views. So, you have a list view, a board view, and a calendar view. You have some security essentials
0:53
and free integrations with everyday work apps, including Google, Microsoft, Slack, and more. Keep
1:00
in mind that these are only everyday work apps. So, these are limited in terms of, you know, multiple
1:05
different tools. So, maybe connecting a more difficult tool like MailChimp or something else
1:10
is going to be a premium feature on Asana. Then, you have basic reporting and community support
1:16
Now, if I was to compare this word for word with the Monday.com free plan, they have up to three
1:22
boards that you can create on your free plan. Then, you have unlimited documentation, as well as over
1:27
200 template, eight column types, as well as iOS and Android apps. Now, one thing I don't like about
1:34
Monday.com is that they don't offer you calendar views on your free plan, and you also don't have
1:39
accessibility to a lot of integrations at all, or any integrations for that matter. You can't really
1:46
integrate a lot of third-party apps on the free plan of Monday. So, that's why I recommend Asana
1:51
to a lot of people. Although it's not visually as dynamic as Monday.com, it is still a great tool to
1:57
use, especially considering how it's packed with the essentials that you would require for project
2:02
management. Now, let's actually look into Asana's dashboard. So, this is our dashboard over here
2:08
On your top, you have a home section, my task section, which will show you all of the tasks that
2:13
are assigned to you. Then, you will have your inbox where you can, you know, forward messages and take
2:20
a look at the current tasks for your day. Then, you have your reporting features, which include your
2:25
completed tasks, overdue tasks, total tasks, as well. And they also give you a visual element for you to be
2:31
able to see how much progress you have made. Then, if you go into portfolios over here, this is a
2:37
premium feature. Now, portfolios help you in managing workload across multiple different people
2:42
So, if you're working in a team, and you're working for a larger project, and you want to
2:48
manage your initiatives for multiple different people, it's a good option to try out portfolios
2:53
on Asana. However, keep in mind, this is a premium feature. Now, next up, you have your goals section
2:59
which is a free to use feature, which I really love about Asana, as well. It has the capabilities
3:05
for you to set milestones, and those milestones will help you in achieving a specific mission
3:11
So, you can add an individual goal. Let's say it's to reach 100k subs. Then, you will have the owner
3:17
of the goal, and then you have the time period for when you want to complete that. So, let's say I
3:22
want to complete it in the next time period, so for the next year. That's our goal. And then, we have
3:28
our privacy. If you want this to be a public goal that the entire company or people in the workspace
3:34
can see, or if I want this to be a private goal, and then I can include multiple different members
3:39
to this goal. Then, you will have your update method if you want this to be manual or automatic
3:44
Then, you will have your measurement. So, let's say it's going to be measured in percentage number
3:49
or currency. This is going to be measured in numbers, and let's say our current subs are 50k
3:56
and our target value is 100k, like this. So, I'm gonna leave the k out, but let's say it's
4:03
50,000 like this, 50,000 like this, and 100,000. So, we have 50,000 as our current value and 100k
4:11
as our target value, and I can save this goal over here. Now, in this goal, you can actually create
4:16
sub goals. So, you can add a description about the goal as well as sub goals, and you can connect your
4:21
related work. So, if I have a YouTube project management board where I'm managing my YouTube
4:26
content, so I can connect the relevant website or, you know, my relevant projects to this particular
4:33
goal. Then, at this goal, you even have a status that you can set, and you have your accountable team
4:38
So, the accountable team for this goal is going to be the people present in this workspace
4:43
Now, after that, you can actually go into your actual project section. So, let's actually build a
4:48
board for our YouTube channel, let's say, for achieving this goal. So, I would click on new
4:53
project or portfolio, and I'll build a new project over here. Now, you can use a spreadsheet, a
4:58
template, and Asana has some amazing workflow templates that can help you in building a smooth
5:04
and effective workflow. Now, going into the project section, I'm going to click on new project, and
5:10
I'm going to use a blank project for this, and for this, we're going to be adding YouTube channel
5:16
management like this, and then we are going to make it private to our work, public to our workspace
5:21
and then you have your default view. So, I want a board default view, and then I'm going to click on
5:26
create project over here. Now, I can go back into goals, and I will go into this particular goal
5:32
and I'm going to add the related work, and this is going to be the related work
5:36
Now, going back into our initial board, now in our board, we have multiple different
5:42
segregations. So, you guys can see you have an overview section, and in your overview, you will
5:46
have a brief description, project roles, as well as connected goals and portfolios, as well as any key
5:52
resources. Then, you have your list view that is yours, you know, it can be your default view if
5:57
you want. Then, we have our board view over here, and I can rename these sections into different
6:03
categories. So, let's say this is going to be upcoming content or approved ideas, upcoming
6:11
content, and then we might have, let's say this is going to be content in the making, in progress
6:19
and then let's say this is called completed content, and then let's say we have another
6:25
segregation, which might be completed content, and then uploaded content like this. So, you can
6:32
create multiple different sections, and then within each section, you can write a task. So, let's say
6:37
the content in progress is maybe something like, let's say we are giveaway or recording like a
6:43
giveaway, and then within each task, if you open up the task, you can add a particular member that
6:48
is assigned to complete that task. You can also add a due date for that task, so by which
6:54
time should that be completed. Then, you will have your project as well as your project section that
7:00
is present in. Then, you can also add more information about this project as well as a dependency. So, a
7:07
dependency is going to be an initial task that is meant to be completed before you get into completing
7:12
this task, and then you have your description and comments that people can leave. So, all of these
7:18
features are available for free on monday.com. You don't have to pay to get a list view, a board view
7:24
or a calendar view. Plus, you get a basic overview and you're able to link your goals and manage your
7:29
workflow effectively. Now, I personally think that Asana's free plan is a very decent project
7:35
manager and can help you in managing your work as well as your business directly in their application
7:42
So, I hope you guys found this video helpful and you are now able to make a better informed decision
