Gideon And The 300 Chosen Men, The Screening Process & Its implications
18 views
Feb 20, 2025
The book of Judges is as contemporary as it gets; it is marked with a repeated pattern that we see in the current world we live in. The people cry out to God and in His faithfulness and mercy He provides them with a deliverer. The people then obey God until the death of the deliverer and fall back into the old habits again. The 6th chapter of the Book of Judges presents the instance of Gideon, a very unlikely hero of the faith that becomes God's instrument to deliver the Israel from the midianites's oppression. As I read the narrative, God's screening in the choosing of the 300 men became the object of my contemplation. And this is what we'll be discussing today. good morning guys this is Taibbi and we
0:06
are up for another diving into
0:11
scriptures basically that's what I want
0:13
to call it basically I've been looking
0:15
at the book of Judges on the seventh
0:18
chapter and if what it involves um
0:20
Gideon and actually before I get into it
0:24
I just want to say like the book of
0:27
Judges and a lot of the other stories
0:29
that took place they are so contemporary
0:31
you know it's just like what we have
0:34
today and then people cry out a guide
0:37
because they've been like literally
0:40
doing their own thing and then they run
0:42
into a lot of problems and then they
0:43
write the color to God and in an in his
0:47
faithfulness hehe Anna mercy provides
0:49
them with a deliverer and then the PPO
0:52
bit obey God until the death of the
0:54
deliverer and then they fall back into
0:55
their old habits again so the sixth
0:58
chapter of the book of Judges I'm
1:00
presenting instance of Gideon and he's a
1:03
very unlikely hero of the faith that
1:05
becomes God's instrument to deliver
1:07
Israel from the Midianites oppression so
1:10
as I read a narrative like God's
1:12
cleaning in the chosen of the 300 men
1:14
that fought with alongside Gideon is
1:17
what really caught my attention and
1:19
that's what I contemplated for like
1:21
almost two months now and you know
1:24
anxious it was really really tough to
1:26
look at and I still don't think I quite
1:29
have captured the essence of the passage
1:32
but one of the things that motivate me
1:34
to do this thing is this in in second PR
1:37
Timothy we are told to correctly divide
1:41
the Word of God you know I don't want to
1:43
come off here saying oh this is my
1:45
interpretation that is not what we are
1:47
supposed to do as believers we really
1:50
need to know by the help of the Holy
1:52
Spirit show to people what God is really
1:57
saying the passage so basically
1:59
understand what the author was trying to
2:02
say it's not up to our personal
2:04
interpretation that is not what we're
2:06
supposed to us as believers we need to
2:08
really present the Word of God for what
2:10
it is the Word of God and to do that we
2:13
need to study
2:14
you know it involves really spending
2:17
quality time looking at his scriptures
2:19
we can't just look at it for like a day
2:21
or two or whatever and think are in our
2:23
own little head using our own brain to
2:26
think oh this is what this is saying
2:28
really we need to study on the entire
2:31
passage in its entirety and really take
2:33
our time and ask God as we read the
2:35
scriptures open our minds to understand
2:38
what the author is trying to say that is
2:41
the main goal okay so I just want to lay
2:45
laid out before I get into the the
2:46
passages really by the help of the Holy
2:49
Spirit we got God said ask and I will
2:53
give it to you you know so we ask and we
2:55
wait and we study and we read and we
2:57
dissect the scriptures and we take our
2:59
time to do so all right okay let's get
3:02
into it so basically I'll see you can
3:04
see my screen right so Gideon and his
3:06
300 men and and I called I called the
3:09
entire thing on the screening and his
3:10
implication so basically I'll give you
3:13
the background so they seen so we're
3:15
gonna read our judges seven one to nine
3:18
and I've already opened a scripture for
3:20
you so then the rouble wit is Gideon and
3:24
all the people who work with him rose
3:26
early and camped beside a spring of
3:29
Herod and the camp of median was north
3:31
of them by the hill of Moreh in the
3:34
valley now the Lord said to Gideon the
3:36
people with you are too many for me to
3:38
give the media night into their hand
3:40
last Israel boast over me saying my own
3:44
hand have saved me now therefore
3:47
proclaim in the ears of the people
3:49
saying whoever is fearful and trembling
3:52
let him return home and hurry away from
3:54
among Eliot
3:55
then twenty-two thousand other people
3:58
returned and ten thousand remained and
4:00
the Lord said again to Gideon the people
4:03
are still too many take them down to the
4:05
water and I will test them for you there
4:07
and any one of whom are said to you this
4:10
one shall go with you shall go with you
4:12
and any one of whom I said to you this
4:15
one shall not go with you shall not go
4:17
so he brought the people down to the
4:18
water and the Lord said to Gideon
4:21
everyone will last the water with his
4:23
tongue I said as a dog laughs which are
4:26
set by himself likewise everyone
4:28
Neal started drink and the number of
4:31
those who laughed putting their hands to
4:33
their mouth was 300 main but all they
4:36
were sort of people net down to drink
4:37
the water
4:38
and the Lord said to Gideon with the
4:41
three other men we laughed I will save
4:42
you and give the media night into your
4:44
hand and let all the others go home
4:46
every man to his house to his home so
4:50
the people took provisions in their
4:51
hands and their trumpets and his shanem
4:53
is and all the rest of Israel every man
4:56
to stand but retained the 300 men and
4:58
the camp of Midian was below him in the
5:00
valley that same night the Lord said to
5:03
Gideon arise go down against the camp
5:06
before I've given it into your hand all
5:08
right so we read the passage and we're
5:10
gonna go back to the slides so basically
5:12
I give you a quick background so at this
5:14
one Israel has been under the heavy
5:16
oppression of the media night and a band
5:19
their banner flag refrigerators and
5:21
finally Israel cries out to the Lord who
5:24
then reminds the nation about his
5:26
Providence and there are these obedience
5:27
you know he always God always tells them
5:30
I told you so
5:32
he didn't listen to me and this is the
5:34
result of you not listening but in His
5:37
grace he raises up a deliverer for them
5:40
in Gideon so judges 6 6 I'm not gonna
5:43
read the entire passage but I'm gonna
5:46
tell you exactly who he is I was getting
5:48
on his background and he is the son of
5:52
joash and Joe are seasoned up years
5:54
right if I'm saying that right let's go
5:56
to the next slide so this is key to
5:58
understanding the rest of the passage so
6:01
Gideon's description of himself is
6:03
exactly why God chose him right what did
6:06
Gideon say about himself is recorded in
6:08
judges 6:15 and he said whom please Lord
6:11
how can I save Israel behold my clan is
6:16
the weakest and Manasseh and I am the
6:18
least in my father's house now Gideon
6:21
acknowledged a reality he knew that his
6:24
claim of his right was the weakest plane
6:26
in Manasseh towers a reality and he also
6:29
knew that he was the least likely mandar
6:31
fortune his family my father's house who
6:34
consider us a deliverer
6:35
so he had an honest look about himself
6:38
and his claim
6:40
where God had other brains right so
6:43
we're going to the next light and we're
6:45
gonna read judges 634 where the Spirit
6:48
of the Lord clothed Gideon and he
6:50
sounded a trumpet and they have gears
6:52
right where call out to follow him and
6:54
he sent messengers 12 an assay and did
6:57
to a caller to follow him and he said
6:59
messengers to assure Zebulun and
7:02
Naphtali and they went up to meet
7:04
Gideon basically so now the rest of the
7:07
people I wanted to follow Gideon because
7:09
of the key thing they realized that he
7:12
was clothed with the Spirit of the Lord
7:14
this is what he says here so the people
7:16
they have been convinced that he wasn't
7:19
being delusional so I think most men and
7:21
fighting men from the surrounding areas
7:23
where all galvanize and they wanted
7:25
freedom for no question so and they
7:27
realized look Gideon is clover the
7:30
Spirit of God so we're gonna follow this
7:31
guy and this is basically the same type
7:35
of thing that takes place in countries
7:36
where people have been so pressed for so
7:39
long until one person starts a
7:41
revolution and it becomes contagious
7:43
everybody want to join in and I'm
7:46
bringing a software specific reason I've
7:49
mentioned on the next slide basically so
7:51
now I've said earlier that folks were
7:54
mobilized to join the battle right I
7:55
just said that for liberation and which
7:58
implies that this included fighting men
8:00
and guys that had never been trained
8:02
properly to fight civilians and with
8:05
that comes a range of attitudes and
8:07
emotions such as overconfidence in one's
8:10
ability fear trembling and carelessness
8:13
and you know you have a natural people I
8:16
want to be heroes and stuff like that so
8:18
in light of all these god helps Gideon
8:20
in judges 7 and 2 to 3 the people who
8:24
are too many for me to give the media
8:25
night into their hands lest
8:27
Israel boast over me saying my own hand
8:30
are saved me now therefore proclaim in
8:32
the ears or people saying whoever is
8:34
fearful and trembling that ever return
8:37
home and hurry away from one Gilead and
8:38
22 thousand other people return in ten
8:41
thousand remained right now here's the
8:43
key thing God will not share his glory
8:48
with anyone remember I mentioned that it
8:51
32
8:51
recruit included people with all sorts
8:54
of our gender Morrison and mindset so
8:56
now we are left with like 10,000 and God
8:59
tells Gideon that this number is still
9:00
too much and he does more screening he
9:03
meaning God and this is my main focus
9:05
today like I said but before I get into
9:07
it let me talk about 22,000 people they
9:10
were fearful and tremble they were
9:11
trembling right now fear can become
9:13
contagious and I think the Lord didn't
9:15
want this fall to poison the minds of
9:17
the other people and remember when Moses
9:21
centrally spiced and if 12 is right it
9:24
was a bunch of him and 12 him and then
9:27
two came back with a good report it was
9:29
Joshua and Caleb and then the other 10
9:32
were like yes the land is indeed from
9:34
milk and honey but these people are
9:38
giant and we are like grasshoppers so
9:41
they kind of poison him and our people
9:43
and the people are like you know what
9:44
we're not gonna go fight these people we
9:45
are scared so God is like look if
9:48
there's anyone who's scared go home
9:50
so fear is the first thing that God
9:52
wanted to weed out so 22,000 people left
9:56
and there's still 10,000 left
9:57
and God says there's still too many
9:59
people I'm gonna do more screening right
10:02
again we need to keep this in the back
10:05
of our head God wants the glory for
10:08
himself and that's the goal do you have
10:10
to keep that in mind as you read this
10:12
passage alright so he's saying that
10:14
there's still too many people and he
10:16
tells Gideon take them down to the water
10:18
and then he says I would test them for
10:22
you there and any one of whom I say to
10:23
you
10:24
this one shall go with you he shall go
10:26
and then and then Gideon begin the
10:28
people down through water and then the
10:30
Lord said Gillian
10:30
everyone will last the water with his
10:32
tongue as a dog laughs you shall set by
10:34
himself likewise everyone who kneels
10:37
down to drink and the number of those
10:39
who laugh to put in their hands a time
10:40
as was three hundred men but all the
10:42
rest of the people net down to drink
10:44
water and the Lord said of Gideon with
10:46
the other men we laughed I will save you
10:48
and give the Midianite into your hand
10:50
and let all the other people go home
10:53
now this is what I read like a few
10:56
commentaries and I wasn't satisfied what
10:59
I saw like some people claimed were the
11:01
300 people who laughed they were kind of
11:04
careful because they were
11:06
using your hands to drink the water so
11:07
they can keep their eyes and then
11:09
watching there's 10,000 people so I
11:11
don't know how all 10,000 people can
11:14
drink water at the same time so I don't
11:16
think that's what is going on there I
11:18
don't think that's what's going on there
11:20
because when I read this everyone would
11:22
laugh at the water with his tongue as a
11:24
dog laughs first of all man can not
11:26
technically laugh like a dog we can't do
11:28
that and and I'll show to you now we
11:31
need to understand the mechanism of
11:33
laughing water like a dog
11:35
now dogs laugh because they have
11:38
incomplete chicks they can't really suck
11:40
the water right and I'll show you some
11:43
pictures here before we go on let's
11:46
let's do it let's do this see most like
11:48
I asked my my my son I said hey Cyrus he
11:51
likes to go hunting
11:54
he goes and he does deer hunting you
11:56
know all that kind of stuff for us
11:58
sometimes when you go if you were to
12:00
drink out of a creek how would you drink
12:02
it and he said this way this is what he
12:04
said he was gonna do I thought that was
12:06
interesting right and I'll get back to
12:08
you in a second so let's go back to the
12:10
slide so basically like I was saying
12:13
like dogs
12:14
they lot because they have incomplete
12:15
chicks hence they have to use a
12:18
different method to drink water right
12:20
and this is amazing because when I
12:22
realized it I thought I was crazy
12:24
because God knew something the
12:27
researchers have discovered recently
12:29
dogs can't use their tongues to drink
12:31
water so what they do is this they lap
12:33
it they lapped water and they turned
12:35
their tongue into a cup basically they
12:37
curl the tongue backward so they can
12:39
bite the water they actually bite the
12:41
water when they are drinking water
12:42
that's what they do
12:43
when you see them using their tongue
12:44
they actually curling the tongue and the
12:47
tongue becomes almost like a cup so this
12:48
cook the water when it didn't impact the
12:50
water so they can drink it so now keep
12:53
that in the back of your head now let's
12:54
go and let's look at this this is I saw
12:57
this video I thought that was cool look
12:59
see what they're doing
13:00
you see what the dog is doing here some
13:02
researcher she what he's doing he's
13:04
banging the water she like he's biting
13:07
they're like look at it this is crazy
13:09
now you can kind of understand the
13:10
mechanism so this is what's going on
13:13
here right
13:14
but it
13:15
you go back to the passage can people
13:18
actually bite can people actually laugh
13:21
like dog they can't really do that I
13:23
must stop this because it's interfering
13:24
with our video they can't really do so
13:26
but God was trying to make a point there
13:29
people can't technically use their
13:32
tongue to drink
13:33
they can't curly like a dog but this is
13:36
what God say it here see if you go down
13:38
a little further down he's saying and
13:41
the number of those who lapped putting
13:44
their hands to their mouths
13:46
where's 300 men I'm gonna get back to
13:48
this now here's the thing
13:51
those doesn't guarantee our needs to
13:53
drink the water painting a picture like
13:54
I say inadequacy no confidence in their
13:57
own ability keep in mind the first group
13:59
of people that would send back home
14:02
where those that were fearful and
14:03
trembling right and I've said in the
14:05
beginning there's all kind of people
14:06
there were all kind of motives and
14:08
mindsets there are people that are like
14:09
so scared of death and there are peuta
14:12
overconfident thinking yes we got this
14:14
man let's go so God first took out the
14:18
people that were kind of like fearful
14:19
and trembling because they can poison
14:21
the mind of the people and the second
14:23
group is another group there that's like
14:25
overconfident so what he did is this
14:28
like he cuz I again I looked at a lot of
14:30
commentaries and and then I wanna stay
14:33
consistent with a background God always
14:36
chooses most for most part the weak
14:39
things to shame the wise and when he
14:41
chose Gideon each was because he was
14:44
part of the weakest clan in Manasseh in
14:46
and they abused right part of the
14:49
weakest guy Manasa he was the least
14:51
likely man forgot to choose because God
14:54
wants the going for himself and the only
14:56
way God can get a glory for himself in
14:58
his situation is if you use the most
15:00
unlikely people to do so so those 300
15:04
people at the water it was only 300
15:07
people so let's let's let's read the
15:09
next slide and maybe they'll share for
15:11
more light now I looked at dogs
15:13
references in the scripture and you know
15:15
in Matthew 7:6 he says do not give dogs
15:18
what is holy and do not throw your
15:20
pearls before pigs let's say trample
15:22
them on the foot and turn to attack you
15:24
and now I wanted I wanted to look at
15:26
Matthew or 1526
15:29
and this is an interesting instance is a
15:32
Gentile woman who sees Jesus and she
15:34
tells him my daughter is sick please can
15:37
you come and heal my daughter and Jesus
15:40
tells her this is I'm gonna take it take
15:43
from me I read it but he did not answer
15:45
a word and his disciple came and begged
15:48
him saying send away for she's crying
15:50
out after us he answered because she was
15:52
a Gentile woman so they they were kind
15:54
of like aggravated with a lady and Jesus
15:57
answers
15:58
I was sent only to the lost sheep of the
16:00
house of Israel but she came and knelt
16:02
before him saying Lord helped me and
16:04
then he answered it is not right to take
16:07
the children's bread and throw it to the
16:09
dogs now people see this and they get
16:11
kind of like aggravated they say where
16:12
Jesus was being rude that's because they
16:15
don't really understand what is taking
16:16
place here she said yes I agree with the
16:20
Lord yet even the dogs eat the crumbs
16:22
that fall from their master's table
16:24
right and then jesus answered her a
16:27
woman great is your faith be it down to
16:31
you as you desire and her daughter was
16:33
healed instantly now the emphasis here
16:36
is on what faith right the gentlewoman
16:41
understood that though she wasn't of the
16:43
house of Israel by birth she was of the
16:46
house of Israel by faith what does the
16:49
scripture say they just shall live by
16:51
faith
16:52
so she's trusted in Jesus and for that
16:56
her daughter was healed so the emphasis
16:58
is on faith so what does that have to do
17:01
with the 300 men who laugh like like
17:02
dogs this is what I've seen here oh my
17:06
goodness they were the least likely to
17:08
be chosen for the battle I believe they
17:10
were inadequate
17:11
it shows how inadequate they were maybe
17:14
they never learned how to survive in the
17:15
wild right maybe they never drink out of
17:17
a river before like if you throw them
17:19
into the Amazon forest I won't know how
17:21
to survive there now if I survive you'd
17:24
be like it's only by a miracle only God
17:26
could have saved you tae-hee because you
17:28
don't know how to survive in a wild now
17:30
she throws through Cyrus in there he
17:32
might be able to last like ten days
17:33
because he has some skills I don't have
17:35
those skills but if I survive everybody
17:39
will infer that a solely by miracle
17:41
because tie Eve does not know how to
17:42
survive in
17:43
why right so scriptures say nothing
17:46
about their background but from their
17:47
actions we can infer that they when
17:49
these when typical like military guys
17:52
that's what I'm thinking those guys are
17:54
were lapping the water maybe they've
17:55
never been in a while before so that's
17:57
why they were doing what they were doing
17:58
my life in the water with their hands
18:00
scooping it up right okay so now let's
18:02
let's go to the next slide now like I
18:06
say the weak things of shame their wives
18:07
the Lord wanted everyone to know that he
18:10
was the one added that defeated the
18:11
Midianites so if you put this passage in
18:13
today's world you will see myself God
18:15
will use average guys like you and I
18:17
instead of Navy SEALs to fight a
18:20
terrorist group right if we win people
18:23
be like there's no way you guys could
18:25
have won that borrow only by a miracle
18:27
so that's the emphasis here God is
18:29
choosing the least likely main to do
18:33
that now those that love the water
18:35
we're the ones who went to the to this
18:37
bar by faith they didn't go into the bar
18:39
thinking that they were capable of
18:41
defeating medium with their with their
18:43
own abilities and this showed it by the
18:45
way they drank the water in our Equus II
18:48
you know what I'm saying like they went
18:49
into the barrel trusting God's power
18:51
alone and not their own hands if I would
18:54
say that with our faith is impossible to
18:56
please God so they please God but they
18:58
have faith right now I want to show you
19:01
some interesting here today I can and
19:03
you know why I'm saying that because I
19:05
yesterday I was driving home I thought
19:08
about it I'm like okay now I make sense
19:10
look you says here that same night and
19:14
the Lord said to Gideon arise go down
19:15
against the camera for I've given into
19:17
your hand I have given it into your hand
19:19
for if you are afraid to go down go down
19:21
to the camp with cool rah
19:23
your servant puah your servant so
19:28
pora was part of the 300 men that were
19:31
chosen now you see I was like why's that
19:34
name being mentioned and now it makes
19:37
sense to me who was there with Gideon so
19:43
I bet it was part of the 300 man maybe
19:45
that was the first one you know so there
19:48
was 299 I stayed in the camp so he went
19:50
down there with Gideon so who I was his
19:53
servant now
19:54
I think the word servant there means
19:57
maybe he worked for Gillian at Gideon's
19:59
house because he doesn't say it I don't
20:03
think it's just like because the Bible I
20:05
said he picked one of the man names
20:07
portnow he picked poor his servant your
20:12
servant so that means poorer is not a
20:15
typical military guy
20:17
but God is using even poorer to defeat a
20:21
median and now you see the emphasis -
20:23
the reason why I'm saying those three
20:25
hundred people that actually like the
20:27
water bye-bye Bryce you're scooping it
20:29
with their hane they were the least
20:31
likely people now what is a servant
20:33
doing in a war he's not military got
20:35
people and I'm sure the 9700 people die
20:38
like left they had some choice words for
20:40
forgetting saying you gonna take these
20:42
people to win this battle
20:43
good luck now pour like I said here shed
20:46
some light on it right and we're gonna
20:48
go to the next light treasure in Jars of
20:50
Clay now in second Corinthians 4:7 but
20:54
we have this treasure in Jars of Clay to
20:56
show that it's surpassing power belongs
20:58
to God and not to us now the 300 men
21:00
understood that their confidence was not
21:02
in themselves but in God and I'm sure
21:04
the remaining nine seven hundred we went
21:06
was enough some choice words for Gideon
21:08
and his band of 300 I'm a mathematician
21:10
so I like I went into okay now if 300
21:13
people are chosen 9700 I going back home
21:16
and they're probably like are you
21:17
kidding you gonna choose these 300
21:19
people that can't even drink water the
21:21
proper way you don't even know they've
21:23
never been around its terrain before cuz
21:25
I don't think this is 300 people which
21:26
well I used to be in in a wild you know
21:29
what I'm saying so this is what I'm
21:32
thinking
21:33
and again I've studied this like for a
21:34
while so I'm not just trying to put my
21:36
own interpretation because we have to
21:39
stay consistent with a theme or the
21:40
passage and this is where I why I'm
21:42
saying
21:43
pure was a proof to me like he is the
21:46
servant of Gideon and he's going to the
21:49
battle so put Daddy
21:50
think about it for a second okay next
21:53
next slide so how was the part one and
21:57
we need to look at it as well now prior
21:59
to going through borrow Gideon might
22:00
have been a little apprehensive and the
22:02
Lord knew it and to strengthen him God
22:04
sends getting on a reconnaissance
22:05
mission
22:07
a skirt of the enemy's camp and Gideon
22:09
listens to a dream and and and he hear
22:12
the interpretation of the dream and from
22:13
then his confidence in the Word of God
22:15
and the promise of God is sealed now
22:18
let's check out the dream and his
22:19
element like we're gonna read on Georgia
22:21
7 9 and 15 so this is what I read
22:24
earlier so now as Gideon gets close to
22:27
the camp he listens to his dream so when
22:31
Gideon can behold a man was telling a
22:33
dream to his comrade and he said Behold
22:35
I dreamed a dream and behold a cake of
22:37
barley bread tumbled into the camp of
22:40
median and came to retain instruct it so
22:42
that he fell and turned it upside down
22:44
so that eternally the tent lay flat and
22:48
its core is calm it answered this is no
22:50
other than the sword of Gideon the son
22:52
of George a man of Israel God has given
22:55
into his hand median and all the camp as
22:58
soon as given her the telling of the
22:59
dream and its interpretation he
23:01
worshipped every and he returned to the
23:03
camp of Israel and said arise for the
23:05
Lord has given the host of medium into
23:07
your hand all right let's go back so why
23:12
was the valley Brady using his dream the
23:14
significance so bolli was the cheapest
23:17
of green and in the dream he probably
23:20
represented the fact that Gideon's forts
23:22
were small and unimpressive right
23:25
interesting isn't it now there's more
23:27
stuff to element under any battle those
23:32
elements I'm sorry guys
23:34
losing my words here now the trumpet and
23:36
I say probably the silver trumpets were
23:39
used and then the next thing was the
23:41
jars of click containing a torch right
23:43
now the trumpets we're gonna read
23:45
numbers 10 verses 9 and god says to the
23:48
people when you go to war in your land
23:50
against the adversary will passes you
23:52
then you shall sound an alarm with the
23:54
trumpet and probably the silver trumpet
23:57
that you may be remembered before the
23:59
Lord your God and you shall be saved
24:00
from your enemies so Gideon would and
24:03
his 300 men were being faithful to the
24:05
Word of God they didn't question it
24:07
I betcha date 9700 a bill I look we need
24:10
weapons we're not gonna use this trumpet
24:12
you see what I mean so they were being
24:16
obedient to the Word of God God said in
24:19
numbers 10 verse 9 this is why you need
24:21
to do and Gideon and his 300 men were
24:23
being faithful to the Word of God they
24:25
applied what he had told him he had
24:28
specifically said to blow the silver
24:29
trumpet when they went to war and that's
24:32
what he did did follow the instructions
24:35
and this is the importance of hearing
24:37
and doing what the word says don't just
24:39
be a hero do what he says do what he
24:42
says next thing they could've argued
24:46
about a method like I say maybe some
24:48
argue the body and suggested bringing
24:49
sword bows arrows and sometimes God may
24:53
use those things but in this example he
24:56
wanted to show that this Pharaoh is mine
24:59
so do what I said in numbers 10 verse 9
25:03
this Shiva Trump is being used alright
25:06
so this is the importance of being in
25:07
line with a holy spirit of god is key to
25:09
getting victory in our daily battles
25:11
against the enemy of our soul and we
25:13
must be acquainted we're aware of God
25:15
which is the sword of the Spirit you
25:17
can't separate both of them alright we
25:19
don't go to the next element which is
25:21
the jars of clay and it torches inside
25:23
now the jars of clay and what does that
25:26
mean like jars of clay I really really
25:28
really like frog easily broken they're
25:31
fragile and easily broken right now the
25:34
key to this jar is what's inside the jar
25:36
the torch right and we're gonna look at
25:39
some verses that shed some light on it
25:40
now I'm not going to read I mean Genesis
25:43
1517 actually let's go and read that
25:45
Genesis 1517 will type that so in
25:53
Genesis 15 and 17 this is where when God
25:56
is making a covenant with Abraham any
25:58
say to him or when the Sun had gone down
26:00
and was dark behold a smoking fire fire
26:04
fire and in flaming torch pass between
26:06
the police places all right and let's go
26:08
back to the slide
26:09
Isaiah 62 one two three let me read that
26:11
to Isaiah 62 one two three
26:18
for Zions sake I would not keep silent
26:20
and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be
26:22
quiet until her righteousness goes forth
26:24
as brightness and her salvation has a
26:26
burning torch the nation's ash shall see
26:28
Oh your righteousness and shall and the
26:30
Kings your glory and shall be called by
26:33
a new name that the mouth of the Lord
26:35
will give you shall be a crown of beauty
26:37
in the land of the Lord and a royal
26:39
diadem in the hand of your God let's go
26:42
back now Paul gives us like a vivid
26:45
picture of what this passage actually
26:47
meant in 2nd Corinthians 4:7 the one
26:50
with Gideon and everything else but we
26:53
have this power and his treasure in Jars
26:55
of Clay to show that the surpassing
26:57
power belongs to God and not to us jars
27:00
of clay fragile right now basically the
27:05
jars are us we are like fragile people
27:08
we need God's power for victory we can
27:13
do it on our own and that's why it's
27:15
good to be humble and to recognize who
27:17
we are it's not our own power
27:19
right and these are my concluding
27:21
thoughts now God's grace is sufficient
27:23
and his power is made perfect in our
27:25
weakness that's when God smiles made
27:28
perfect when we are weaker and when we
27:30
are weak and that's what God said in 2nd
27:33
Corinthians I think I can record
27:35
recorder the instance the second friend
27:37
and I my power is made perfect in your
27:39
weakness now God's battles are won prove
27:42
and by obeying His Holy Spirit as he
27:44
leads us to do his word now God's word
27:47
is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto
27:49
our path right and to live a victorious
27:52
life we must surrender our wheels
27:54
abilities and everything that we claim
27:56
to be our heart and our have the
28:00
lordship of Christ
28:01
so basically who is the lord of your
28:03
life he's a guard you know what I'm
28:06
saying and God would not share his blood
28:08
with anyone and he wants to bring us to
28:10
a place of complete humility and
28:12
dependence on his provisions only to
28:14
live give us our daily bread and the
28:17
trumpets are falling in the trumpets
28:19
were representative of prayers and the
28:22
jaws of table the torches inside we're
28:24
us and being in the world with the Holy
28:26
Spirit of God and this is how we win our
28:29
battles and as we get acquainted with a
28:31
word
28:31
and call him call on his promises like
28:34
in in and that's where Gillian did he
28:36
went back to the world of guy numbers 10
28:38
verse 9 and we are lie the Holy Spirit
28:41
to lead us in our borrows all right this
28:45
is all I have to say today guys
28:46
and you know less you should go ahead
28:48
and actually if you want know more read
28:50
more read up that scripture more is the
28:52
book of Judges and go start with George
28:54
6 and 7 and read the entire passage and
28:57
and meditate on it think about it and
28:59
see what God is really trying to say
29:01
there it's gonna tell you if she really
29:04
wait and then be patient alright that's
29:06
a lot to say today you guys have a good
29:08
day and God bless you
