Feb 20, 2025
This study stems from a rebuke I received from the Lord several months ago as it pertains to loving my wife His way. He led me to a few passages in the Old Testament to give me a better understanding of what Christ love for us is like. Understanding Christ love for the church will lead any Christian husband to loving his wife as presented by Paul in Ephesians For more info visit http://tayibs.com/2018/10/23/husbands-love-your-wives-as-christ-loved-the-church-the-implications/

hello good morning and this is ty even
0:04
today we're gonna be looking at
0:07
Ephesians 5 verse 25 to 33 and this is
0:13
the scripture that a lot of people have
0:14
used on before and you're familiar with
0:18
it it's a his husband's I love your
0:20
wives as Christ loved the church and
0:23
then he goes on to explain everything in
0:27
there so um I wanted to talk about that
0:30
this morning because um let me get to it
0:33
just give me one second now like it's
0:37
why I want to talk about it because a
0:39
few months ago I received a rebuke from
0:44
the Lord Himself you know I'm not a
0:47
didn't hear voice but I was convicted in
0:49
my own heart as it pertains to the way I
0:53
loved my own wife at home so he led me
0:57
it's like a few passages in the Old
0:59
Testament to give me a better
1:01
understanding of what he are what
1:03
Christ's love for me is like she
1:08
pretends of how to love my wife Christ's
1:11
way and to understand I had to go
1:14
through a series of questions myself
1:16
that I have to like ask myself to see if
1:19
what I was standing and it wasn't a
1:22
pleasurable thing to do because you
1:25
think that you're doing this the right
1:27
thing and you you have your own standard
1:30
in your own mind and then God comes and
1:34
then tells you listen this is the way I
1:37
want you to do things this is the way I
1:40
want you to go so that that Ephesians
1:42
passage is loaded with a lot of things
1:45
and I don't want to to be the one to to
1:50
kind of soften up or or make lighter
1:53
things you know what I mean I want to
1:55
look at things like honey deeper in a
1:57
deeper way and thus one of the things
2:00
that I've been really on my heart as of
2:01
late I now feel like sometimes we read
2:04
the scriptures and we just go through it
2:06
like it's just eating pancakes or
2:09
whatever we just don't even take our
2:11
time to really understand what the
2:13
passage means
2:14
and now again I don't claim to know
2:17
everything that's know my what my claim
2:20
is my thing is this to understand the
2:22
Scriptures we have to take the time to
2:25
sit and ask God to instruct our mind so
2:28
we can understand what he is trying to
2:30
say in 2nd Timothy 2:15 he says
2:33
correctly divide the Word of God and
2:35
this is what we need to do spend time in
2:38
it alright so I won't waste your time
2:41
any longer let's get to it and let's
2:43
understand what this is all about this
2:45
morning so what I do is are I'm gonna
2:48
share my screen and we're gonna go from
2:50
there all right
2:51
let's do that now so the first thing I
2:56
want to do is this like um again I
2:58
created a slide to help me like to give
3:02
me directions because I get confused
3:04
many times when I when I put things I
3:06
think I need to get my thoughts
3:08
organized so I have to like create some
3:11
kind of a slide to guide me I so the
3:15
first question is this what does it mean
3:18
to love your wives as Christ loved the
3:20
church alright so first you know what
3:23
let me go and actually read Ephesians 5
3:26
for you 25 to 33 he says here husbands
3:30
love your wife you love your wives as
3:32
Christ loved the church and gave himself
3:34
up for her that he might sanctify her
3:37
having cleansed her by the washing of
3:39
water with the word so that he might
3:42
present the church to himself in
3:44
splendor without spot or wrinkle or any
3:47
such thing that she might be holy and
3:50
without blemish okay I'm gonna stop here
3:53
for now and and I'm gonna go to the to
3:56
the slide and I'll get back to it at
3:57
some point so here's the question what
4:00
does this mean and I say you know for us
4:02
to understand what love is presented by
4:04
Paul in Ephesians mean we need to
4:07
understand what is love is not like
4:09
basically it's like a juxtaposition if
4:12
you want to understand what is love that
4:13
he's talking about is like you need to
4:15
understand what this love is not like
4:17
and to do that I'm gonna be looking at a
4:19
dark story that took place in the book
4:21
of Samuel is in 2nd Samuel 13 1 to 19 so
4:25
we're gonna read the entire verse
4:27
the entire passage and we're gonna we're
4:31
gonna talk about it alright so it takes
4:33
place in in the book of Samuel now
4:37
Absalom is David's son his firstborn son
4:40
and he had a half-sister Henry Moore's
4:42
tomorrow so I'm gonna take him from
4:44
there read it now Absalom David's son
4:47
had a beautiful sister whose name was
4:48
Tamar and after a time
4:51
I'm known David son loved her now
4:54
Absalom was not his first son Absalom
4:57
was one of David's son what I'm nan was
4:59
his firstborn son so I want to correct
5:00
that okay I apologize so after a time
5:04
I'm not David son loved his firstborn
5:06
son basically and Amnon was so tormented
5:09
that he made himself
5:11
ill because of his sister Tamar for she
5:13
was a virgin and he seemed impossible to
5:16
I want to do anything to her but I'm not
5:18
had a friend whose name was jonadab the
5:20
son of she mayor David's brother and
5:23
Jonah dad was a very crafty man and he
5:25
said to him all son of the king
5:27
why are you so hey girl morning after
5:29
morning will you not tell me and I'm
5:32
gonna say to him I loved him oh my
5:34
brother Absalom sister and John and I
5:37
upset him lie down your bed and pretend
5:39
to be ill and when your father comes to
5:41
see you say to him let my sister Tamar
5:43
come and give me bread to eat and
5:44
prepare the food in my sight
5:46
the Rama seed and eat it from her hand
5:48
so I'm gonna lay down and pretended to
5:50
be ill and when the king came to see him
5:53
I'm gonna say to the king please let my
5:55
sister Tamar come and make a couple of
5:56
cakes in my sight that I may eat from
5:58
her hand then David sent home to Tamar
6:01
saying go to your parents house and
6:04
prepare food form so table I went to her
6:06
brother and where he was lying down and
6:10
she took though and needed it and made
6:12
cakes in his side and bake the cakes and
6:14
she took the pan and MTV before him but
6:17
he refused to eat and I'm gonna say it
6:19
send out every one from me so everyone
6:21
went out from him then amylin said to
6:23
Tamar bring the food into the chamber
6:25
and I may eat from your hand and Tamar
6:28
took the cakes she had made and brought
6:30
them into the chamber to I'm on her
6:32
brother but when she brought them near
6:34
to him to eat he took hold of her and
6:36
said to her come lie with me my sister
6:39
and she answered him no my brother do
6:41
know
6:41
violate me for such a thing is not done
6:43
in Israel do not do this outrageous
6:46
thing as for me where I carry my shame
6:49
and as for you you be as one of the
6:51
outrageous fools in Israel now therefore
6:54
please speak to the king for him nor
6:55
withhold me from you but he would not
6:57
listen to her and being stronger than
6:59
she was he violated her and laborer then
7:03
a man hit her with a great hatred so
7:05
that the hatred with which we wish he
7:08
hated there was greater than the love
7:10
with which he had loved her in the
7:11
beginning and I'm gonna say to her get
7:13
up and go what she said to him no more
7:16
brother for this wrong for this wrong in
7:19
sending me away is greater than the
7:20
other thing you did to me but he will
7:22
not listen to her he called a young man
7:24
who served him and said put this woman
7:26
out of my presence and bought the door
7:28
after her now she was wearing a long
7:30
robe with sleeves for this where the
7:33
virgin daughters of the King dressed so
7:35
his servant put her out and bolted the
7:37
door after her and team up with a
7:39
chignon her ashes on her head and
7:41
thought a long robe that she wore and
7:43
she laid her hand on her head and went
7:46
away crying aloud as she went he said
7:49
this is a very dark story I I don't even
7:52
like reading in a lot because he makes
7:54
me mad
7:54
alright so now that I read it what do we
7:58
learn about Amnon and his type of love
8:00
now in 2nd Samuel 13 1 2 he says and
8:04
after a time Amnon David son loved her
8:07
and Amnon was so tormented that he made
8:10
himself
8:11
ill because of his sister Tamar for she
8:13
was a virgin and it seemed impossible to
8:15
I want to do anything to her so the key
8:20
words are highlighted our love tormented
8:23
and impossible to do anything now am i
8:25
this is this is what I know love does
8:29
not have any connection with torment and
8:31
impossible to do anything whatsoever
8:32
like what I'm trying to say is this like
8:35
when you have love you can have love and
8:37
his torment in this kind of step in the
8:38
same sentence
8:39
so what I'll say is this I'll go ahead
8:42
and characterize this type of love as
8:44
lost because Adams only restraint was
8:47
that it was impossible for him to do
8:49
anything to his sister because she lived
8:52
in a separate place alongside the other
8:53
virgin daughters for the King so
8:55
that means that if he was given the
8:57
opportunity to do something he would
8:59
so the his audience strength was that he
9:02
could not get close enough to his sister
9:05
and saying like I said we know how the
9:07
story goes
9:08
John Adair was an evil guy devises an
9:10
awful plane so I'm not gonna get the
9:12
chance to get close to his sister and he
9:14
proceeds to violate her now right before
9:18
the violation takes place we're gonna
9:19
talk we're gonna talk about what how
9:21
Tama defended herself all right so we're
9:25
gonna talk about that now he says when
9:27
she brought the bread near him to eat he
9:31
took hold of her and said to her come
9:32
live with me my sister and she answered
9:35
him no my brother do not violate me for
9:38
such a thing is not done in Israel do
9:41
not do this outrageous thing as for me
9:43
where I carry my shame and as for you
9:45
you will be as one of the outrageous
9:47
fools in Israel
9:48
now therefore speak to the king for
9:50
Hyuna withhold me from you but he will
9:52
not listen to her and then you know why
9:54
I once now she desperately tried to
9:57
prevent this this thing from happening
9:58
and and then like I highlighted it's
10:01
like this world here in red for a reason
10:04
and I'm gonna tell you why and she said
10:07
like no my brother to no valid me for
10:10
such a thing is not done in Israel now
10:12
she was quoting scriptures to her
10:14
brother in order to help him snap out of
10:17
this lost but he wouldn't listen
10:19
and God has specifically instructed the
10:21
Israelite against approaching close
10:23
right close relatives to solicit sexual
10:26
favors we can see in like Leviticus 18 6
10:29
to 14 I actually had a passage for you
10:32
so we're gonna we're gonna look at it
10:33
real quick
10:34
he says here none of you shall approach
10:37
any one of your close relatives to
10:40
uncover nakedness I am the Lord I am the
10:43
Lord and you shall not uncover the
10:45
nakedness of your father which is the
10:47
nakedness of your mother she is your
10:48
mother
10:49
you shall not do there you shall not
10:51
uncover the nakedness of your father's
10:53
wife it is your father's nakedness and
10:55
you shall not uncover the nakedness of
10:57
your sister so I'm not know knew all
11:00
about it and that's what his sister was
11:02
quoting to him when she was saying all
11:04
this here and that's what she implied
11:07
when you use when
11:08
she used those word that's exactly what
11:12
she was trying to say to him like look
11:14
do not do this because you know what the
11:16
Lord said about you touching me as your
11:19
sister you can't do this but he will
11:22
listen and then she does the one last
11:24
thing that she does kind of broke my
11:26
heart like when I understood what was
11:28
happening while I was taking place there
11:29
and they were gonna look at it now in
11:31
2nd Samuel 13 between verse 20 13 and 14
11:35
she says now therefore please speak to
11:37
the king for he will not withhold me
11:39
from you but he will not listen to her
11:41
and her and being stronger than she was
11:43
evaluated her and labor now the next
11:46
thing she does the verse above once
11:48
you're on it understanding will break
11:50
your heart see I'm no worse a spoiled
11:52
brat like if you look at a passage like
11:54
David basically gate give him everything
11:56
you want it it was like a little baby
11:58
kind of thing right and so since then I
12:01
couldn't succeed in reasoning with her
12:02
brother she no I told him about the
12:04
scripture he won't listen so she used
12:07
the only thing she thought I could
12:08
restrain him basically she was implying
12:10
look brother dad loves him would give
12:13
you anything you want and he won't keep
12:15
me from you ask him me let's get married
12:18
the right way so she was trying to like
12:20
look I'm gonna try to talk about how
12:23
much dad loves him so dad can so that he
12:26
can kind of like snap out of this
12:27
because she was saying to him dad lost
12:30
you and dad would give you anything he
12:31
would even give me to you but even then
12:35
that wouldn't stop him like I don't
12:37
think like in my own I don't think David
12:40
would have allowed it because he knew
12:41
about Leviticus 18 so Tim I was just
12:44
trying to buy time so she'll escape her
12:46
maniacal brother like she knew okay
12:48
maybe if I talk about dad and how that
12:52
gives him everything maybe they'll make
12:54
him stop
12:55
so that he can actually wait and say you
12:56
know why yes let me marry you the right
12:58
way so that way she can get out of his
13:00
hands and then stop this thing from
13:02
taking place because she was not trying
13:04
to disobey the Lord so she was really
13:07
trying to get out of it but he wouldn't
13:09
listen and he still when I had and did
13:11
what he did and that really broke my
13:13
heart when I when I like when when I did
13:15
this I finally understood what she was
13:17
doing there really like
13:19
I mean I was best man when when when I
13:21
happened now okay let's let's continue
13:23
now he says once he did what he did he
13:29
grew to hate her and that's what really
13:32
shocked me like he did what he did and
13:35
now he goes from my lover in the
13:37
beginning to hidden her so for me is
13:39
this how do you go from loving someone
13:41
to hitting them in such a short period
13:43
of time he says I'm not going to hate
13:47
his sister so quickly and this is why I
13:49
think so because she exposed his evil
13:52
deeds and Jesus said in John 7 7 the
13:56
world cannot hate you but he hates me
13:58
because I testified that it works are
14:00
evil and that's exactly what's taking
14:03
place tomorrow became almost like a
14:05
mirror into Amon's own soul so therefore
14:08
because he knew that what he was doing
14:10
was so wrong he hated himself but yes
14:13
why he disliked you know why I hate
14:14
myself so much what I did now I'm gonna
14:17
turn that hate towards my sister because
14:19
every time I see her she's a reminder of
14:21
what I did and who I am and what I've
14:24
done and I can't stand it so therefore I
14:28
wanna kick it out of my face because
14:31
guess what he told him now that you've
14:34
you've done what you've done you can't
14:36
kick me out of your house keep me here
14:38
because if you keep me out if you kick
14:41
me out what's gonna happen out it's
14:42
gonna be more shameful just keep me here
14:44
now and he still wouldn't listen because
14:46
he thought if I marry this woman now
14:49
she's gonna I'm gonna every day I see
14:52
her she's gonna be a reminder of what
14:53
I've done so I want her out of my face
14:55
so he kicked her out of the house and
14:58
she bought the door behind her I don't
15:00
want to see her again because she
15:02
reminds me of my sin
15:03
now you see what I'm saying does his own
15:06
evil actions were the reason why he
15:09
kicked her because he did not wanna see
15:10
her again and he did not want to repent
15:13
of his actions so therefore the the
15:15
easiest thing for him to do was this to
15:17
push her away and that's why a lot of
15:18
people do
15:20
they don't want to hear it they don't
15:22
want to look and they keep you out of
15:25
their sight they would keep the Word of
15:26
God out of their sight I don't want to
15:28
hear the word of God because it cuts me
15:30
to the heart I don't want it
15:31
so therefore the best thing to do
15:33
suppress it to get me to get it out of
15:35
their sight so they can just live their
15:37
lives the way they want it they don't
15:39
want to be accountable you know let's
15:42
keep going
15:43
so now the question is this what does
15:47
that have to do with husbands and wives
15:49
relationships like I say many will say
15:53
to me type this is my wife and I'm
15:55
lawfully married to my wife so what does
15:57
have to do with me I'm not I'm not now
15:59
the thing is this do you know that it is
16:02
very possible to lust after your own
16:04
wife and do you view your wife as a mere
16:07
object for your own pleasure
16:09
now do you protect and care for her in a
16:11
shepherding way do you play with and for
16:14
your wife do you read and Spana
16:16
scriptures with your wife do you know
16:18
that her body is the temple of the Holy
16:20
Spirit and God takes this fact very
16:22
seriously I should have put blessing in
16:25
red here because this is what I was
16:27
getting at your wife's body is the
16:30
temple of the Holy Spirit
16:32
now I actions toward your wife cousin
16:35
cousin her to be holy or unholy now
16:38
let's look at Ephesians on 525 227 he
16:42
says husbands love your wives as Christ
16:44
loved the church and gave himself up for
16:46
her that he might sanctify her having
16:48
cleansed her by the washing of water
16:50
with the word so that he might present
16:53
the church to himself in splendor
16:55
without spot or wrinkle or any such
16:57
thing that she might be holy and without
16:59
blemish now less the less it is not the
17:03
purpose of loving your wife as Christ
17:06
loved the church
17:08
now several folks have come across to
17:11
misunderstand this verse and they
17:12
utilize it the wrong way now some people
17:14
think this means being a yes-man
17:16
basically they defer their
17:18
responsibilities or their leadership
17:20
role in a marriage to the wife and do
17:22
whatever pleases the wife verse
17:25
misrepresenting what the meaning of the
17:27
verse is now giving oneself up doesn't
17:29
mean accepting everything the spouse
17:31
once for the sake of avoiding her
17:34
complex now some others give themselves
17:36
up because of their own perverse motives
17:39
they want a certain theme from their
17:40
spouses and I wanted to sacrifice
17:42
anything in order to get whatever
17:44
pleasure we're feeling that one thing
17:46
brings life I'm hitting close to home
17:49
Hey look you know I'm not here to judge
17:53
or any anything I'm just saying I'm just
17:55
speaking what I read from from the
17:57
scripture I'm not trying to create any
18:00
kind of um this is not my own doing this
18:03
is basically how the Lord has been
18:05
instructing me all right let's keep
18:08
going now love your wives as Christ
18:11
loved the church now Christ our Lord did
18:14
not lust after his bride the church but
18:17
he loved her in order to make her holy
18:20
you see that's what a lot of people
18:23
forget he says her husband loves your
18:25
wives as Christ loved the church in
18:28
order to make her holy don't forget uh
18:31
portion of the scripture you give up
18:34
yourself in order to make your wife holy
18:37
you don't give up yourself for your own
18:39
pleasure or for your own agenda in order
18:42
to make her holy why that's what Christ
18:45
did right but he loved her in order to
18:48
make her holy why that he might sanctify
18:52
her that's why I Christ did what he did
18:55
for the church haven't claimed her by
18:57
the having planes her by the washing of
19:00
water with the word why so that he might
19:04
present the church to himself in
19:06
splendor without spot or wrinkle or any
19:08
such thing that she might be holy and
19:11
without blemish you see Christ loved the
19:14
church to make her holy a holy vessel
19:18
for the Lord
19:18
let's look at Psalm 23 and you know in
19:20
order to understand what his love is all
19:22
about let's go back he says in Psalm
19:25
23rd 23 the Lord is my shepherd I shall
19:29
not want he makes me lie down lie down
19:33
in green pastures he leads me beside
19:35
still waters he restores my soul he
19:39
leads me in paths of righteousness for
19:41
his namesake now this is the way
19:43
husband's ought to love their wives in a
19:45
shepherding way he carries the idea of
19:47
protection
19:48
safety caring loving the next not
19:51
exposing your wife to wolves but rather
19:54
garden her well as failed me but you get
19:56
the point God has called us to be
19:58
Shepherd of our own household but I
20:00
understand it of law has been polluted
20:02
and we need to go back to scriptures to
20:04
understand what God desires for us so
20:06
basically these are my concluding
20:10
thoughts what I'm going to say is read
20:12
Ephesians 5:23 2:35 and ask the Holy
20:14
Spirit Himself to show you where you you
20:16
are your father in your own marriage
20:18
because this is important we are called
20:20
to love our wives as Christ loved the
20:22
church in order to make her holy a holy
20:24
vessel for the Lord use was her body is
20:28
the temple of the Holy Spirit I'm not in
20:31
understand I am NOT did the opposite he
20:34
gave his sister his sister ARCA for his
20:36
own pleasures that's what he did he
20:39
didn't give himself up for his sister's
20:40
sake he did not protect his sister he
20:43
knew the scriptures he knew all of it he
20:46
ultimately died because Absalom his
20:48
brother killed him you know but I'm like
20:51
really really trying to get you to
20:53
understand what God desires for us for
20:56
our household is for us to be Shepherd
20:58
in our own houses and loving our wives
21:01
the right way our wives are not object
21:04
for our own pleasures and all these
21:06
other stuff yeah God gives us wives so
21:09
that we can have this intimate
21:10
relationship by the same time his main
21:13
purpose is for us to love our wives as
21:16
Christ loved the church in a in a pure
21:19
law that is not polluted it demands
21:22
sacrifice it demands caring it demands
21:24
guarding it demands protecting it
21:26
dimensioning it demands all that God has
21:29
to offer for us to keep her holy that's
21:33
the main main main thing to keep her
21:36
holy I hope this helps guys and if you
21:40
have any questions you want to talk
21:41
let's do that you know because I'm going
21:44
through the same thing with you it's not
21:46
like I'm like I'll figure this thing out
21:48
now I'm I'm learning what it means to
21:50
love my wife as Christ loved the church
21:52
all right
21:53
have a nice day and god bless you
