Today we are going to wrap up Chapter 1 of Exodus. We initially talked about how the people of Israel ended up in Egypt ( in the land of Goshen ). We also mentioned how they were increasing rapidly in the land, and then we talked about the coming to power of a new king who cared nothing about Joseph and his accomplishments. Today we’ll talk about pharaoh’s devious plans in which he sought to control and put an end to the people of Israel. I labeled this study the anatomy of evil and its progression. We’ll see how an individual can go from bad to worse.

hello welcome again and this is Tabatha
0:02
calm and we've been studying exodus
0:06
chapter 1 today we're gonna end this
0:09
chapter but this is my exhortation to
0:12
you I want you to go back in there and I
0:15
want you to study yourself and I want
0:17
you to really take your time to allow
0:19
the Holy Spirit to unpack in this
0:21
chapter to you because I don't think
0:23
I've covered everything in there because
0:25
the Word of God is cannot be exhausted I
0:27
know there's a lot more things in there
0:29
that I haven't seen yet so eventually
0:32
I'm gonna keep going back to it and and
0:34
then read me but today we're gonna try
0:36
to wrap this all up and the title after
0:39
their studies on the anatomy and
0:42
progression of evil now if you look on
0:44
my screen we've talked about we
0:49
initially talked about how the people of
0:51
Israel ended up in Egypt in the land of
0:54
goshen to be more precise and then we
0:57
also mentioned how they were increasing
0:59
rapidly in the land and then we talked
1:02
about the coming to power of a new king
1:05
who cared nothing about Joseph and his
1:07
accomplishment so today we're gonna talk
1:10
about Pharaoh's DeeDee explains in which
1:13
he sought to control and put an end to
1:16
the people of Israel so I'll label this
1:19
stuff like I said they are not to me of
1:20
evil and it's progression so we see how
1:23
an individual can go from bad to worse
1:25
so the first thing we want to do is we
1:28
want to read Exodus 1 verse 10 to 22 so
1:32
let's get to it
1:34
I'm gonna read after ESV version okay so
1:42
we're gonna start off with verse 10 and
1:44
we're gonna read all the way to verse 20
1:45
to follow on my screen yeah let's get to
1:50
it now this is why Pharaoh says come let
1:53
us deal should Lee with them talking
1:56
about the people of Israel lest they
1:58
multiply and if war breaks out they join
2:01
our enemies and fight against us and
2:03
escape from the lanes therefore they set
2:07
taskmasters over them to afflict them
2:10
with heavy burdens
2:11
they built for pharaoh star cities which
2:14
were pyram and Ramesses but the Mahdi
2:17
were oppressed the more they multiplied
2:20
and the more they spread abroad and the
2:23
Egyptians were in dread of the people of
2:26
Israel so the ruthlessly made the people
2:28
of Israel work as slaves and made their
2:31
lives bitter with hard service in mortar
2:34
and brick and in all kinds of work in
2:36
the field in all their work the roofless
2:39
he made them work as slaves then the
2:42
king of Egypt say to the Hebrew midwives
2:44
101 who was named
2:46
shipra and they are the poor when you
2:49
serve us Midwife to the Hebrew women and
2:52
see them on a barstool if it is the son
2:54
you shall kill him but if it is a
2:56
daughter she shall live but the midwives
3:00
feared God and did not do as the king of
3:03
Egypt commanded them but let the male
3:05
children live so the king of Egypt
3:09
called midwives and say to them why have
3:11
you done this and let the male children
3:14
live you mean why I said to Pharaoh
3:16
because the Hebrew women are not like
3:19
the Egyptian women for their vigorous
3:21
and give birth before it Midwife comes
3:23
to them so God dealt well with the
3:25
midwives and the people multiplied and
3:28
grew very strong and because the
3:30
midwives feared God he gave them
3:32
families then Pharaoh commanded all his
3:35
people every son that is born to the
3:38
Hebrews we shall cast into the Nile we
3:41
shall let every daughter live now this
3:44
is the Word of God and this is for us to
3:47
learn from it so let's go back to the
3:50
slides and we're gonna pick up here so
3:54
now what's happening and our label on
3:58
this section Pharaoh's corrupted heart
4:00
now the more the king of Egypt made the
4:03
lives of the people of Israel hard the
4:05
more they increased and multiplied and
4:08
that's because the Lord was with them so
4:12
Pharaoh tried to break their spirit with
4:15
hard labor and ruthlessness but a didn't
4:18
work because God was on their side and
4:21
God gave them the strength to survive
4:23
the physical abuse
4:24
a mental oppression so let's understand
4:27
first thing was the definition of
4:29
oppression
4:30
now oppression by definition is the
4:32
malicious or unjust treatment or
4:36
exercise of power often under the guise
4:39
of governmental authority is also the
4:43
state of being subject to unjust
4:45
treatment or control okay I know that
4:49
sounds familiar because we are living it
4:50
now to some extent now here's the thing
4:54
like when one method of oppression
4:56
doesn't work the oppressor often goes up
4:59
several notches to more inhumane method
5:02
so the next evil thing Pharaoh did was
5:06
trying to get the Hebrew midwives to do
5:08
his dirty job because he tried to
5:10
oppress the people down by hard work but
5:13
the more they make their lives better by
5:16
hard work the more the people grew so he
5:19
was probably upset about he goes okay
5:21
I'm gonna go from now the oppression to
5:23
now killing and I'm gonna use the Hebrew
5:27
midwives to do my dirty job and this is
5:29
what Pharaoh did so he wanted the ladies
5:33
and the Midwife to kill the male Hebrew
5:35
babies and blame blame it on accidental
5:38
death during the delivery because the
5:40
midwives they helped deliver a baby so I
5:43
bet you what he told him was assure
5:45
delivering his baby if he's a boy he can
5:48
pretty much just kill him before he even
5:50
comes out and blame it on accidental
5:52
death it's kinda like sorrow Oh what
5:54
happened to the baby he's dead oh sorry
5:56
that kind of stuff so it wasn't direct
5:58
murder but he was murdered because
6:02
Pharaoh did not want to be held
6:04
accountable for it so he told the Hebrew
6:06
midwives to do his dirty job so
6:08
basically make sure when you're
6:11
delivering this baby if he's a boy make
6:12
sure he's dead on arrival so that's kind
6:15
of like and and then guess what if he
6:18
use if he uses the midwives to do his
6:20
job basically they can kind of blame it
6:22
on accidental death on like during the
6:24
delivery so it was almost like you know
6:27
do something just make sure that the
6:29
baby doesn't leave if he's a boy but
6:32
here's the thing like the midwives fear
6:35
of God exceeded their fear of men
6:38
and they did not succumb to the Kings
6:40
manipulations they knew that you know
6:44
the nudist sanctity of life because
6:46
believers loyalty is to God and his
6:48
women understood the sanctity of life
6:51
they did not give in to the pressure of
6:53
Pharaoh because they knew look god
6:57
supersedes Pharaoh
6:59
we are gonna respect the law of God by
7:01
preserving the sanctity of life we are
7:03
not gonna kill these babies we're not
7:04
gonna do something dirty and then blame
7:06
it on accidental death we are not gonna
7:08
do that now they did lie to Pharaoh when
7:12
he asked them how come you haven't done
7:13
what I did
7:14
that's what another store has to study
7:15
we're not gonna talk about that today
7:17
but I just want you to focus on the fact
7:18
that they did not follow Pharaoh's
7:23
command so method 2 didn't work so
7:27
Pharaoh takes matters in his own hands
7:29
and he revealed his agenda overtly like
7:32
before he was kind of like a little bit
7:33
like under the radar sorrow now he's
7:36
saying to these people in verse 22 then
7:39
Pharaoh commanded all these people every
7:42
son that is born to the Hebrews you
7:44
shall cast into the Nile where he shall
7:46
let the daughter leave so basically he
7:48
went from like oppression like sorrow by
7:51
a hard work to like hay midwives kill
7:54
the babies - now look now I'm commanding
7:57
all my people kill every Hebrew boy that
8:01
you see that is born into Hebrews
8:02
household so he went from like just
8:05
solid it's like now
8:07
overtly like he's openly saying this now
8:09
and he's giving a command
8:10
so they main did went out from Pharaoh
8:12
and since it since it was a command he
8:15
had to be carried out meaning it comes
8:18
from the king himself who has all
8:20
authority in the land
8:22
so basically people are forced to do
8:24
these things okay now the Egyptian they
8:26
have they had a choice they could say
8:27
they could have said no we're not gonna
8:28
do this because we respect the sanctity
8:30
of life but I don't think they did that
8:32
because they themselves did not like the
8:35
Hebrew because they're saying they
8:36
dreaded them they didn't like them so
8:38
they were also looking for an
8:39
opportunity to kill the people of Israel
8:42
all right so let's go on to the next now
8:46
you noticed that when Pharaoh wanted to
8:49
kill he only chose to kill the boys
8:51
why and we need to understand why like
8:54
Pharoah like his main target was the
8:56
boys for many reasons because man have
9:00
been called by God to be the leaders of
9:02
their family like spiritually
9:04
emotionally physically mentally and many
9:07
more aspects so as men we have been
9:10
called to maintain the integrity of the
9:12
family so Pharaoh realized to kill a
9:15
certain people group you must attack the
9:18
main because once you get rid of the
9:20
main there is no one to protect the
9:22
women and their children and there is no
9:24
one to give them proper godly directions
9:27
in the case of the Hebrews so this this
9:29
is like showing us are important like
9:31
the male figure used to the proper
9:33
functioning of the society now does that
9:35
sound familiar
9:36
yes happening even in our societies with
9:39
slavery in our racism and the attack on
9:42
the integrity of the family especially
9:44
in black communities we see that a lot
9:45
right so keep that in mind and I want
9:49
you to apply these truths to our
9:51
contemporary world that we live in in
9:53
now now let's look at Ephesians 5 to 21
9:56
to 32 to understand demanded we received
9:59
from the Lord ask man and why the enemy
10:02
in this case like Pharaoh tries
10:04
everything he can to destroy the
10:06
integrity of the family that's important
10:08
in verse 21 to first 32 we are told in
10:11
Ephesians 5 submit to one another out of
10:16
reverence for Christ that's like all of
10:18
us and then for women for the wives the
10:22
Word of God says submit yourself to your
10:24
own husband as she do to the Lord and
10:27
for a husband and he explained why for
10:29
the husband is the head of the wife as
10:31
Christ is the head of the church his
10:34
body of which he is the Savior
10:35
now as the church submits to Christ so
10:38
also wives should submit to their own
10:40
husbands in everything okay I did a
10:43
whole study on this chapter in one of my
10:46
former lectures you can see this link
10:49
I'll give it to you in the description
10:51
and now as men this is what we are told
10:53
husbands love your wives just as Christ
10:57
loved the church and gave himself up for
10:59
her to make her holy cleansing her by
11:02
the washing with water through
11:05
word of God and to present her to
11:07
himself as a radiant church without
11:09
stain or wrinkle or any other blemish
11:12
but holy and blameless in the same way
11:15
husband's ought to love their wives as
11:18
their own bodies the same way Jesus
11:20
loves the church now do you see the
11:22
mandate here and he goes on to say he
11:24
who loves his wife loves himself after
11:27
all no one ever hated their own body but
11:30
he feed and care for their body just as
11:33
Christ does the church for we are
11:35
members of his body for this reason a
11:37
man will leave his father and mother and
11:40
be united to his wife and the two will
11:43
become one flesh this is a profound
11:46
mystery but I'm talking about Christ and
11:48
the church
11:48
however each one of you also must love
11:52
his wife as he loves himself and the
11:54
wife must respect her husband now you
11:56
understand the dynamic here God has said
11:58
a certain order okay the head of every
12:02
man is Christ and the head of the woman
12:04
is the main so when if you can cut the
12:07
head of the of the woman basically what
12:11
you've causes a disruption and this is
12:13
what Pharoah wanted to do
12:15
he was the tool of Satan he wanted to
12:17
destroy the the integrity of the family
12:19
because we know that ask men we are
12:21
supposed to care for our wives as Christ
12:23
care for the church to make her holy
12:25
that's the end purpose to make her holy
12:27
okay this is not for our use we don't
12:30
use our wives as a tool but we we we we
12:34
help them to become holy as we share the
12:37
Word of God and played our role of a
12:39
protector of instructor and everything
12:41
and then their wife is supposed to
12:43
submit now here's the thing if you love
12:46
your wife as Christ loved the church
12:48
your wife will automatically submit to
12:49
you in the sense that perfect love
12:52
drives away fear if she understands that
12:55
she is loved thoroughly on every aspect
12:58
perfect law would always drive away fear
13:01
also keep that in mind so Farrah wanted
13:04
to kill the male voice for every purpose
13:06
because he wanted to disrupt the order
13:09
the proper order like God had like
13:13
instituted for the function of the
13:15
family okay so you understand his plan
13:17
his plan is to destroy a future
13:19
destroying people group what you do is
13:21
this you attack the main and this is
13:23
what we see today in our own world you
13:25
see a lot of families don't have like
13:27
that authority figure which is the man
13:29
and when there's no man there's always
13:32
repercussions in the society this is
13:34
what we are dealing with so this is not
13:36
a new problem even in biblical times
13:38
these were hardest in this kind of
13:40
things were happening and Pharaoh knew
13:42
that if you could get a remain he could
13:44
completely destroy the people of Israel
13:47
so that's why he ordered that the boys
13:50
be tossed in the Nile to kill them so
13:52
you understand that right ok let's go
13:55
into the next slide here now now like I
13:59
said you can understand why Pharaoh
14:00
wanted to destroy all the mayor's he
14:03
wanted to create a disruption in the
14:05
proper order a design of God for your
14:08
family he realized that if you can kill
14:10
all the male's he would completely
14:11
destroy the integrity of the family this
14:14
is something that we need to focus on we
14:16
must each understand our role because
14:18
there is a fierce enemy whose main
14:20
purpose is to steal kill and destroy and
14:23
Pharaoh embodied every aspect of his
14:26
evil agenda this is the same today he
14:28
hasn't changed I also want you to focus
14:30
on the progression of evil here first
14:33
Pharaoh Kalaheo first the people with
14:35
hard labor to break their spirit in
14:38
order to make them dread life itself but
14:39
a didn't work then he went on to plan B
14:42
which is killing the male Hebrew
14:43
children by the hands and amis wives dad
14:46
in work and finally he completely
14:48
ordered the killing of all Hebrew male
14:50
children by his own fellow countrymen it
14:53
shows us a vivid picture of how the
14:55
enemy operates against believers his
14:57
attacks intensify the longer we resist
15:01
okay and and this is where we're gonna
15:03
stop today because like I said to you
15:05
this is just a lot of things to talk
15:07
about here you understand that Pharaoh
15:09
his main and chief purpose was to
15:12
destroy the male babies because he knew
15:15
the importance of having a man or male
15:17
figure in the society or in the family
15:19
so he wanted to destroy the integrity of
15:22
the family if he could get to the family
15:24
that he could get to the society so to
15:26
destroy a people group what you have to
15:28
do basically is destroy all the main
15:30
because they are supposed to be
15:32
as men we are supposed to be the
15:33
spiritual leaders and God like I said in
15:36
Ephesians 5 I given us demanded to care
15:38
for our wives as Christ cares for the
15:41
church to make her holy the end purpose
15:43
is to make her holy so Pharaoh's main
15:46
purpose was to get royal emails and then
15:48
maybe he was hoping that if dinner and
15:51
the daughters and the women who now
15:53
mingle with the male Egyptians and that
15:56
means there's now intermarriage between
15:58
those religious their religious system
16:01
and the Jews which is now going to
16:03
adulterate and in pollute the integrity
16:06
of that devotion to yahuwah so you can
16:09
see how strategic Pharaoh was and that's
16:11
the chief purpose of the enemy if he can
16:13
destroy the males and he can destroy the
16:16
family and eventually destroy the
16:17
society and then we live in chaos and
16:20
that's what we experience in today so
16:22
now we're gonna talk about next week
16:24
probably we're gonna talk about what God
16:26
did to save his people because he
16:28
promised remember
16:29
you say they were gonna be afflicted for
16:31
400 years and then he were gonna he was
16:34
gonna charge the people that oppress
16:38
them so eventually God raises up a
16:40
savior for the people of Israel and
16:42
that's what we're gonna be looking at
16:43
next week so I'm encouraging you to go
16:46
back and read chapter 1 its entirety and
16:49
also begin by reading Exodus - okay so
16:53
thank you for for sharing this with me
16:55
and for spending this time with me and
16:57
I'm looking forward to seeing you next
16:58
week all right thank you
