Elijah is known as one of the most flashy and rough prophets in sacred scriptures, and that because most of his ministry was characterized with vivid supernatural events. In spite of all the miraculous occurrences in his life , there was a time during his ministry where he was gripped with fear and ran for his life. And the person that caused Elijah to flee was no other than Jezebel , a woman whose name is synonymous with wickedness. We’ll be looking at the reasons why the Lord allowed Elijah to get to a place of fear and the implications

good morning guys this is ty he is calm
0:04
and I have another presentation for you
0:07
this morning and the title raised
0:09
Elijah's fear of Jezebel and the
0:12
implications now and this might be a
0:14
two-part sectional series because on the
0:18
tool that I'm using to record the screen
0:20
it's like it only allows me to record 15
0:23
minutes so i'ma have to break this into
0:24
like two different from sessions so bear
0:28
with me let's go on to the next slide
0:30
I'll give you the background now a lot
0:33
of people know Elijah and Elijah is
0:36
known as one of the most flashy and
0:38
rough prophets in sacred scriptures when
0:41
I say flash in rough I mean most of his
0:44
ministry Wars are characterized with
0:47
vivid supernatural events and in spite
0:51
of all the miraculous occurrences in his
0:53
life
0:54
there was a time through his ministry
0:56
where he was gripped with fear and ran
0:58
for his life and a person that caused
1:01
Elijah to flee was no other than Jezebel
1:04
a woman was name is synonymous with
1:06
wickedness so today we were looking at
1:09
the reason why the Lord allowed Elijah
1:12
to get to a place of fear and then they
1:15
implications so let's go to the next
1:17
slide now first we're gonna talk about
1:20
his exploits the things that he did in
1:23
his life by the Spirit of God so we're
1:26
going to look at that first and we're
1:31
gonna be looking at first Kings 17 verse
1:33
1 that's the first time now Elijah the
1:36
Tishbite from tisch Bay in Gilead said
1:39
to Ahab after Lord and the God of Israel
1:42
leaves whom I serve there will be needed
1:45
to Norway in the next few years except
1:48
at my word and he happened now the next
1:53
one is in 1st Kings are 17 verse 14 to
1:57
15 for this is what the Lord the God of
2:00
Israel says the jar of flour will not be
2:03
used up and the jug of oil will not run
2:05
dry until the day the Lord sends rain on
2:08
the land this is when Elijah was Saint
2:10
Anne to Zarephath and he had to live
2:13
with
2:13
so he told her this promise and he
2:16
actually happened
2:17
any happening is recording in verse 15
2:20
he says there she went they were indeed
2:22
as Elijah had told her so there was food
2:25
every day for Elijah and for the woman
2:27
and her family for the jar of flour was
2:30
not used up and the jug of oil did not
2:32
run dry in keeping with what the word of
2:36
the Lord spoken to by Elijah
2:38
so next slide so more exploit now Elijah
2:43
goes on to raise the widow's son back to
2:45
life and this event is recorded in 1st
2:48
Kings 17 verse 19 to 22 so the son her
2:52
son dies and she she goes to Elisha she
2:56
said to Elisha my son is dead you know
2:58
and Elisha takes the child and this is
3:01
white but what happens he says to her
3:03
give me your son Elijah replied he took
3:05
him from her arms carried him to the
3:08
upper room where he was staying
3:09
and laid him on his bed then he cried
3:12
out to the Lord Lord my God have you
3:14
brought tragedy even on this widow I'm
3:17
staying with my cousin her son to die
3:19
then he stretched himself out on the boy
3:22
three times and cried out to the Lord
3:24
Lord my God let this boy's life return
3:27
to him the Lord Hurdle I just cry and
3:29
the boy's life returned to him and he
3:31
leaved Elisha picked up the child and
3:33
carried him down from the room into the
3:35
house he gave it to his mother and said
3:37
look your son is alive that's it
3:40
another one and then he called fire from
3:44
heaven after his prayer now this is a
3:46
showdown between Elijah and the prophets
3:48
of bail so there's a is recorded in
3:51
chapter 18 where he tells rdp on the
3:53
people of Israel come gathered and they
3:56
all gather in there he tastes like 500
3:58
profit of bail and Elijah tells them the
4:01
God that brings the fire down from
4:02
heaven is the true God and that in
4:05
itself is another sermon but I'm gonna
4:06
be giving you may be some at a time but
4:09
today we just want to focus on there the
4:11
miracle at the time of the sacrifice the
4:13
Prophet Elijah's stepped forward and
4:15
prayed Lord the God of Abraham Isaac and
4:18
Israel let it be known today that you
4:20
are God in Israel and that I am your
4:22
servant and I've done all these things
4:24
as a command SME Lord as
4:27
so these people who know that shoe Lord
4:29
our God and that you are turning their
4:31
hearts back again then the fire of the
4:33
Lord fell and burned up his sacrifice
4:35
the wood the stones and his soil and
4:37
also licked up the water in his trench
4:40
so that's another and dink and then
4:43
there's another one rain from heaven
4:45
after Elijah's prayer is in the same
4:47
chapter so there was no rain and Elijah
4:50
said to Ahab go eat and drink for there
4:53
is the sound of heavy rain so Ahab went
4:55
off to eat and drink by Elijah climb to
4:57
the top of karamo bend down to the
5:00
ground and put his face between his
5:01
knees go and look toward the sea he told
5:04
his servant and he went up and looked
5:06
there is nothing there he said seven
5:09
times they like I said go back the
5:12
seventh time the servant reported a
5:14
cloud as small as a man's rain is rising
5:17
from the sea so Elisha said go and tell
5:20
a half-hitch off your chariot and go
5:22
down before the wind stops you mean why
5:25
the sky grew block with cloud the wind
5:27
rose a heavy rain started falling and a
5:30
hub rode off to Jezreel so this is
5:32
Elijah's again he prays and and there is
5:35
rain and then Elijah outlines a chariot
5:39
now in the same chapter again the power
5:42
of the Lord came on Elijah and in
5:44
talking his cloak into his belt he ran
5:46
ahead of a hub all the way to Jezreel
5:49
now this is my little comment I say how
5:52
parties for a resume as a believer in
5:54
Christ what do you think happens when
5:57
the Lord begins to use you in mighty
5:59
ways you and I you probably know the
6:02
answer to the question is pride of
6:04
course and Elijah wasn't the exception
6:06
to the rule now let's see how pride
6:09
began to affect his behavior we're gonna
6:11
look at the instances where because of
6:13
the things that God was doing pride
6:16
began to settle in in Elijah's life so
6:18
we don't look at those instances in the
6:21
next slide now call this chapter sorrow
6:24
pride and that's reported in first Kings
6:26
1822
6:27
then Elijah said to the people I am the
6:31
only one of the Lord's prophet left but
6:33
Bale has 450 prophets now here's the
6:36
thing before this instance happen Elijah
6:39
had met
6:40
a man named over died you know but I
6:42
told him how he did are some profit in a
6:44
cave because Jezebel wanted to kill them
6:46
so he knew that those people were alive
6:48
so I don't know why he would say I am
6:50
the only one of the Lord's prophet left
6:52
so there's a solo prior there now in the
6:55
same chapter first Kings 18 verse 27 at
6:59
noon Elijah began to doubt then shout
7:03
louder he said surely is a God he is
7:06
referring to bill perhaps he's deep in
7:08
deep thought of busy or traveling maybe
7:11
he is sleeping and must be awakened now
7:14
God had told Elijah he was gonna bring
7:16
fire down from heaven through Elijah so
7:18
Elijah knew that the prophets of bale
7:19
who are useless so he began to count
7:22
them and this is not like God does right
7:25
right there shout louder he said surely
7:27
is a God that's like a vernacular we say
7:30
he's talking trash and that's what he
7:32
was doing he was actually counting the
7:33
people because he knew that all their
7:36
stuff which was useless okay we're gonna
7:39
look at me more and then quite fully
7:43
revealed nah Elijah's pride wasn't fully
7:46
disclosed until the time when he was
7:48
running away from Jezebel under pressure
7:50
and fear he finally revealed what was in
7:53
his heart and we're gonna look at it in
7:54
first Kings 19 verse 3 and 4 now
7:58
Elijah has just done all these things in
8:00
chapter 18 he called down fire from
8:03
heaven he killed the prophet or failed
8:06
he outran a chariot and he did all kind
8:11
of stuff right rain came down so guess
8:14
what happened he just were told him he
8:22
ain't happening tortures well how Elijah
8:24
had killed or the prophets of bale and
8:26
Jezebel told Elijah as the girl leaves
8:29
as my guards leave if I don't make your
8:32
life like one of those prophet tomorrow
8:35
me something bad happened to me so
8:37
anyway enlighted heard that he was
8:38
afraid of Jezebel and he went for his
8:40
life and this is what he's saying here
8:42
in chapter and three and four in verse
8:44
three and four Elijah was afraid and ran
8:46
for his life when he came to Beersheba
8:48
in Judah he left his servant there while
8:52
he himself when it is journey into
8:54
wilderness he came to a broom bush bush
8:58
and sat down under it and played that he
9:00
might die I've had enough Lord he said
9:02
take my life and this is where his pride
9:05
came came fully revealed I'm no better
9:08
than my ancestors then he lay down under
9:11
the bat bush and fell asleep so saying
9:14
that I'm no better than my ancestors you
9:16
feel it's something what does a
9:18
statement me feels about life somehow he
9:20
thought he was better than his ancestor
9:23
and the Lord allowed him to go through a
9:24
time of distress to teach him a lesson
9:26
about pride now the interesting thing
9:28
about the Lord is this gentle discipline
9:30
what Satan means for evil God uses to
9:33
teach us a lot about himself and our own
9:35
depravity and the Lord didn't zap or
9:37
kill Elijah in the middle of his
9:39
distress but he meaning Jesus allowed
9:41
Elijah to rest and replenish his
9:43
strength and then went on to teach him a
9:45
very good lesson about Friday so we were
9:47
looking at that in the next section so
9:51
Elijah goes the whole rap so Ora has a
9:54
lot of meaning and one of the one of the
9:56
meaning is solitude and enlightening it
9:59
to get to a place of solitude so he can
10:01
hear from the Lord there is something
10:04
very significant about his ministry that
10:06
I wanted to point out but before he did
10:08
anything like before he did anything
10:10
major in his life there was one
10:11
recurring event that took place and
10:14
we're gonna look at the verse that
10:15
indicate that in first Kings are 17
10:18
verse 2 then the word of the Lord came
10:22
to Elijah and then the command was given
10:24
leave here turn eastward and idly career
10:27
for preventing divine history Jordan so
10:31
this is the recurrent thing the word of
10:34
the Lord came to Elijah in first Kings
10:35
17 verse 8 same thing and the word of
10:38
the Lord came to him go at once to
10:40
Zarephath in the region of Sidon and
10:43
stay there again we see the same thing
10:45
here now in first Kings 18 verse 1 after
10:48
a long time in the third year the word
10:51
of the Lord came to Elijah go and
10:54
present yourself to a hub and I will
10:56
send rain on the lane so Elijah went to
10:58
present himself to a hub again there's a
11:00
command so every time before he did
11:01
something major there was the word of
11:03
the Lord came to him and then the
11:05
comment was given and he obeyed and he
11:07
followed and then in chapter 19
11:10
something interesting up and there's a
11:12
sudden change the logic I just brought
11:14
down fire from everything killed our
11:16
four hundred prophets he was waiting for
11:18
the instruction of the Lord to do the
11:20
next big thing but chapter 19 begins
11:23
with now a half torches about everything
11:26
Elijah had done and how he had killed or
11:28
the Prophet with a sword
11:30
so Jezebel sent a messenger to allow you
11:32
to say may the gods deal with me be ever
11:35
so severely beat by this time tomorrow
11:38
autonomic a life like that of one of
11:40
them and Elijah was afraid and ran for
11:43
his life so Elijah this time did not
11:46
hear from the Lord for he heard from the
11:48
enemy again the enemy uses people to do
11:53
his bidding eat now in this case the
11:55
enemy Satan used Jezebel Jezebel was his
11:58
tool so when I happened and I took
12:01
panicked him ran for his life and God
12:03
gave Satan the permission to shift
12:05
Elijah for a good purpose and the
12:07
meaning of chapter 19 deals the deal
12:10
today
12:11
ok the remaining of chapter 19 so we
12:13
don't look at that I know here's the
12:15
thing that I want to say God hates the
12:18
proud but he gives grace to the humble
12:19
he's recorded in Scripture but here's
12:22
the good news like God disciplines whom
12:25
he loves so if you're getting away with
12:26
things in your life there are only two
12:29
things that I can say to you one God is
12:32
giving you enough time to repent does it
12:35
mean that what you're doing is approving
12:37
of it but he's just giving you time to
12:39
repent and say Lord forgive me I've done
12:44
wrong please change my desires and the
12:46
second thing is this you are not a child
12:48
of God here's the thing if you're
12:51
getting rid of things in your life maybe
12:53
you don't belong to God's family
12:54
it's like this I don't go around
12:57
disciplining other people's children you
13:00
see what I'm saying so God discipline
13:01
his own children so if you're not being
13:05
disciplined by the Lord and you think
13:07
you're getting away with stuff there's
13:08
only two options he's giving you time to
13:11
repent before he comes down out on you
13:13
or you don't belong to God's family now
13:16
because Elijah belongs to God's family
13:19
he's try not to be dealt with
13:21
and it was dealt with at Mount Horeb so
13:24
we don't take a look at some key verses
13:26
in that passage and let's go to the next
13:28
slide so pride on dealt with so now have
13:32
won many ten and a half left so I'm just
13:35
gonna read this off and we're gonna I'm
13:37
gonna we're gonna go to the next second
13:39
session that I talked about so let's
13:42
look at first Kings 19 verse 9 to 11
13:44
finally we hear the phrase again and the
13:47
word of the Lord came to Elijah and he
13:49
says to him what are you doing here
13:51
Elijah Elijah replies I've been very
13:55
zealous for a Lord God Almighty the
13:58
Israelite have rejected your covenant
14:00
tone down your altars and put your
14:02
prophets to death with a sword I'm the
14:04
only one left and now they're trying to
14:06
kill me too and the Lord said go out and
14:09
stand on the mountain in the presence of
14:11
the Lord for the Lord is about to pass
14:12
by now those highlighted words should I
14:15
like it still thought of himself more
14:17
highly than he ought to and the Lord
14:19
aren't dealt with it so let's see how it
14:21
got there with it
14:22
Elijah's right so we're gonna I'm gonna
14:24
stop here and we're gonna do that on the
14:27
next section okay and so I'm gonna be
14:31
closing this now
