Can we know with certainty that God is real? When I was five years old, I remember looking at myself in the mirror and thinking to myself, what if there was nothing? I don't know why those thoughts crossed my mind at such a young age but they did. As a believer in Jesus Christ, I came to appreciate and love the word of God so much because it is living and active, but also because it is rational. God has given us so many evidences for His existence yet many believers have completely dismissed and disregarded the abundant resources we've inherited from faithful soldiers of Christ i.e. Moses, Paul the Apostle, St. Augustine just to name a few. It is true that the righteous shall live by faith, but not a faith that is grounded in subjective feelings but rather objective truths. In today's presentation we'll talk about that certainty of the reality of God and the implications that follow.

hello good morning this is tayiba
0:01
tayyips.com
0:03
and i'm hoping that you're having a good
0:05
friday uh today it's kind of raining and
0:07
kind of gloomy outside
0:08
so this morning i woke up and i did not
0:11
have a plan
0:12
on sharing this this morning but i
0:14
believe it's important that i do it
0:15
because
0:16
maybe someone somewhere needs to hear
0:18
this i don't know
0:20
if you've been struggling with doubts
0:21
about the existence of god
0:23
and how if he's real and and all that
0:26
because uh grown up man i remember when
0:29
i was five years old or six years old i
0:30
used to look
0:31
look at myself in the mirror and i used
0:34
to ask myself
0:35
what if there was nothing what could
0:37
there be now
0:38
and it's interesting because i see
0:41
myself going back to those times where i
0:43
never forgot
0:44
about that and and and that to me it was
0:46
important because
0:47
i believe ever since i was young giving
0:50
those questions about the existence of
0:51
god and his
0:53
uh reality uh was something that was
0:56
embedded
0:57
in my dna and most of us all of us i
1:00
would say
1:01
have the knowledge of god in our minds
1:04
we may
1:04
choose to repress it suppress it but
1:07
it's something that connect cannot exp
1:08
and we cannot escape that kind of uh
1:11
thinking
1:12
now this morning why am i here if you
1:15
if you've seen the taro um i said can we
1:18
know with certainty that god exists or
1:20
god is real
1:21
and this is what i'm here to talk about
1:22
this morning so
1:24
why should we should we even bother with
1:27
this
1:27
like why should we bother with this
1:29
question i'm going to give you the
1:30
reasons but before i do that i want to
1:31
say something on the outside
1:33
now listen like i want to say that god
1:35
does not need me
1:36
or he does not need anybody to prove his
1:39
existence
1:40
his existence because he's sovereign
1:42
okay god has given us so much evidence
1:44
of his existence that
1:46
we cannot deny it and god does not even
1:48
need
1:49
any one of us to do anything but he
1:52
chooses like
1:53
agents human agents sometimes or
1:55
whatever agency that he wants to use
1:57
like his as his
1:58
instrument for the accomplishments of
2:00
his purposes
2:02
so every living being like i say knows
2:04
that god exists and i'm going to show it
2:06
to you later
2:07
but why do i care to actually
2:11
go through an argument to prove his
2:12
existence i'll tell you why i'll give
2:14
you my
2:15
my reasons why number one although god
2:18
is sovereign and god
2:19
knows all things and god has proven
2:22
himself that he exists we are told in
2:24
first peter 3 15
2:26
that but in your heart honor christ
2:29
the lord as holy and always be prepared
2:32
to make a defense
2:33
to anyone who asks you for a reason for
2:36
the hope that i seen you
2:37
yet do it with gentleness and respect so
2:40
we have a responsibility
2:42
as um believers to give a rational
2:46
answer
2:47
to why we believe what we believe okay
2:50
and i'm gonna give you another reason
2:51
um the early church for example they
2:54
were very sound in the faith
2:56
and some of the greatest arguments that
2:57
we have for the existence of god have
2:59
been handed down to us
3:01
by the apostles and others who have
3:03
really stood um the test of time they've
3:05
really
3:06
invested in searching these things so we
3:08
shouldn't just disregard it because
3:10
i believe in our day and age there is a
3:12
tendency to
3:14
completely um shut down any attempt to
3:17
prove the existence of god
3:19
rationally okay so a lot of people
3:21
mention
3:22
well you have to have faith yes faith
3:24
and reason have a symbiotic relationship
3:27
you can't have faith without reason and
3:29
you can't have
3:30
um you can't just use reason because
3:32
faith is backed up
3:34
by a lot of uh rational um
3:38
arguments okay god is a rational god god
3:41
is not just
3:43
a figment of my imagination he has given
3:45
us so many evidences
3:47
objective evidences about his existence
3:49
and
3:50
for us to disregard those things is
3:52
utterly ridiculous so
3:54
i don't think as a believer in christ i
3:56
should completely dismiss any attempt
3:59
to uh affirm certainty that god exists
4:02
it is not good to do that that's
4:04
credulity and that's not good
4:06
because the god that we believe in is
4:08
not a center class or he's not
4:10
on those green men in the sky he is an
4:12
objective god that exists objectively
4:15
and his existence is not giving over to
4:17
subjective feelings
4:18
and all that because there is uh
4:21
certainty
4:22
of his existence and this is why i think
4:24
it is important for us to
4:26
to hold on to this as well now three we
4:29
are living in a very hostile
4:30
world that wants to do everything to
4:33
destroy the god hypothesis like
4:35
if critics can find a way to undermine
4:37
the truth about the existence of god and
4:39
the truth
4:39
claims of the bible then they can win
4:42
our children over
4:43
okay just think about it the things that
4:45
our children are being thought like in
4:47
school
4:47
like they're in even in cartoons things
4:50
that they watch there's always like
4:51
subtle attempts
4:52
to to undermine the truth of the
4:55
existence of god in the bible
4:56
you know so for us it's important to
4:59
to equip our children to know with
5:02
certainty that what they believe in
5:03
is rational is objective and it is
5:07
the truth okay and then the fourth thing
5:09
is there's eternal consequences
5:11
it's a matter of heaven or hell it is no
5:14
laughing matter okay
5:16
and there is a growing number of people
5:17
that think that the existence of god
5:19
is a private and subjective matter for
5:22
example
5:23
people say that if believing in god or a
5:26
higher power makes you feel
5:27
good or is therapeutic then that's okay
5:30
and
5:31
then they kind of go well for me i don't
5:33
need god
5:34
to have meaning in life for me i can
5:36
function without
5:38
thinking about god see when i say
5:41
that god exists i'm not saying that he
5:43
exists in my mind
5:45
or he exists in my mind only or he
5:48
exists because i want him to exist now
5:50
the existence of god is an objective
5:53
reality
5:54
it is not something that's giving over
5:55
to my feelings or
5:57
the way uh i want it to be and and then
6:00
because that's the case
6:02
uh there is eternal consequences because
6:04
if you do not believe in this god that
6:06
i'm talking about this morning
6:08
then you are bound to go to perdition so
6:11
we need to stop playing games with
6:13
people and be authentic
6:15
and tell them listen this is not a game
6:16
man like this is not a laughing matter
6:20
because your eternal life is dependent
6:23
or is contingent on
6:24
whether you believe in in god or not and
6:27
the god that i'm talking about is the
6:28
god of the scripture i'm not talking
6:30
about any created god but i'm talking
6:32
about the one
6:32
that has acidity okay and then so those
6:36
are my reasons now
6:37
how do we go from there to prove that
6:40
god exists how do we
6:41
know with certainty that god exists okay
6:44
the first thing is this like
6:45
you must start with your own
6:46
consciousness like how do you know
6:49
with certainty that you exist how do i
6:51
know that i exist
6:52
because i must start with myself okay
6:55
and remember i don't know if you guys
6:56
know about uh rene descartes he's a
6:58
french philosopher
7:00
okay he was questioning his own
7:02
existence and then he came up with
7:04
something that people
7:05
know now it's called kojito ergo i think
7:08
therefore i am
7:09
basically uh rene descartes says that to
7:12
question his existence is actually to
7:14
prove it
7:15
because uh questioning the fact that
7:17
that exists
7:18
requires me to think okay and if if if
7:21
because i'm thinking about it
7:22
that mean i exist so to question my
7:25
existence is to prove my existence
7:27
okay so this is where we need to start i
7:30
need to start with my own consciousness
7:32
do i
7:32
exist now because i question my own
7:35
existence
7:35
that means that i exist because thinking
7:38
requires a thinker
7:40
and before if i'm thinking about it that
7:41
mean i exist so i'm going gonna start
7:43
with myself
7:44
now i know that i'm real and i know that
7:46
i exist now there are three things that
7:48
follow after that
7:50
now the number one is this we're gonna
7:51
proceed by elimination
7:53
uh if i exist there might be there's
7:56
only three options
7:57
i'm eternal okay and but that's not the
8:00
case that's not possible because i
8:02
cannot be eternal because i had a
8:03
beginning
8:04
because there was a time where i was not
8:07
uh
8:08
in this world okay i was not there was a
8:11
time where i was not i was born on march
8:12
the 24th of 1981 so in 1980
8:16
i did not exist i did not have there was
8:19
no type
8:20
there was not me i was nowhere to be
8:22
seen so i came into this world in 1981.
8:26
on march 24th which means that i'm not
8:29
eternal
8:30
okay i had a beginning i had a beginning
8:32
so i am not
8:33
eternal so i can take that out of the
8:35
way now the second
8:36
option is is that our self self-created
8:40
in a sense that i created myself for i
8:42
came out of nothing
8:44
now for me to create myself i have to
8:46
exist before i can do the job
8:48
okay so that means that that option is
8:51
also
8:51
out of the window because i can't create
8:54
myself
8:54
if i don't exist because for somebody to
8:56
create themself
8:57
i have to exist first okay and
9:01
self-creation is also saying that i came
9:03
out of nothing which is impossible
9:05
because
9:05
out of nothing comes nothing because
9:08
nothing
9:09
is not okay nothing does not exist
9:12
nothing is not so that option two is
9:15
also out of the way now the third option
9:17
is this
9:18
i was created by something okay and
9:20
that's the only one that holds
9:22
because the philosophers they're called
9:24
that's something the necessary being
9:26
a being that explains all
9:29
other existence and that being that
9:32
being
9:33
cannot not be okay that being
9:36
cannot not be because if that being
9:40
is not then we have nothing so therefore
9:44
there is a necessary being okay for god
9:48
to be god he must be eternal
9:50
self-existent
9:51
and we talk about the acidity of god i
9:54
mentioned it earlier
9:55
so we don't even need so to speak
9:57
scripture
9:58
to accuse the fact that god exists okay
10:01
i'm not dismissing scripture i will
10:03
never dismiss scripture
10:05
but what i'm saying is this no one will
10:07
be able to say to god
10:09
i didn't know you existed because you
10:11
didn't give me enough proof
10:12
because guess what god exists and he
10:15
exists
10:16
objectively and i just showed it to you
10:17
you start with your own consciousness
10:19
if you are self-conscious if you know
10:21
that you exist there's only three
10:22
options
10:23
you were you are eternal you are
10:25
self-created which is coming out of
10:27
nothing or you are created by something
10:29
that has a ct
10:30
or someone that is eternal and the
10:32
philosophers call up to
10:33
eternal being the necessary being okay
10:36
so it's important to say that
10:38
now what does scripture say now that
10:41
we've come to this how do we go from
10:42
this to prove that the god of the
10:44
scripture
10:44
is this true god it's easy now if you go
10:47
to exodus 3
10:48
we're going to listen to what moses says
10:50
to in this
10:52
um exchange with god i'm going to read
10:54
it to you in a second i wish i had
10:56
pulled that up before let me get that
10:58
exodus 3.
10:59
we're gonna go to exodus three and we're
11:00
gonna read verse
11:02
um verse 13 to
11:06
14. now now this is when moses meets
11:09
god and burning bush and
11:12
does a seriously they're having a
11:14
conversation and then moses says to god
11:16
in verse 13
11:17
then moses said to god if i come to the
11:19
people of israel and say to them
11:21
the god of your fathers has sent me to
11:23
you and they asked me
11:24
what is his name what shall i say to
11:27
them and god said to moses
11:29
i am who i am and he said
11:33
saintly say this to the people of israel
11:35
i am
11:36
has sent me to you okay i am has sent me
11:40
to you
11:40
now you have to understand something
11:43
when god says
11:44
i am has sent me to you that's his name
11:47
that's who he is the self-existent one
11:50
the eternal i
11:51
am mean that he has no beginning and no
11:54
end now
11:55
this is moses okay moses a person that
11:58
people call
12:00
a primitive person that is reasoning
12:02
like this
12:03
he's writing those words he's pained
12:05
those words down under the
12:06
inspiration of the holy spirit i am has
12:09
sent me to you okay
12:10
now this is pre-philosophers okay this
12:12
is before
12:13
plato uh sacrilege and aristotle now
12:16
listen to what moses is saying here he's
12:18
talking about
12:18
i am the great i am the one that has a
12:22
ct
12:23
the one that is that exists and for all
12:25
eternity
12:26
so moses knew this before renee
12:28
descartes
12:29
before plato before aristotle before
12:32
socrates even
12:34
talked about the necessary being okay
12:36
this is incredible because
12:38
uh when i want to prove that the
12:40
scripture is truly the word of god
12:42
okay i'll look at the intersections
12:43
between uh the word of god and
12:46
philosophy the word of god and science
12:47
the word of god and archaeology
12:49
the word of god and and biology there is
12:52
so many evidence
12:53
that she cannot deny the veracity of the
12:56
word of god
12:57
again this being is having a
12:59
conversation with moses and he makes
13:01
an assertion that is consistent with
13:03
what the philosophers call the necessary
13:05
being there is so many other evidences
13:07
that i can talk about
13:08
but i want to zero in on this alone also
13:11
if you look at genesis 1 1 the scripture
13:14
says that in the beginning
13:15
god created the heavens and the earth
13:17
okay science rejected for the longest
13:19
time
13:20
that uh the world was created they said
13:23
that the universe was eternal
13:24
and then in 1960s then it's there
13:27
there was a telescope that showed that
13:30
the
13:31
the universe was expanding because i
13:33
don't know you see edwin
13:34
what was the scientist name i forgot his
13:36
name he showed that the expansion of the
13:38
universe
13:39
showed that he had a beginning so it
13:41
take it took science pretty much
13:43
1900 years to come to that conclusion
13:46
when they could have just looked at
13:47
scripture and then accused the truth of
13:49
scripture so what am i saying why am i
13:51
saying this
13:51
i'm saying all this to prove you to
13:53
prove to you that the scripture is
13:55
consistent with what
13:57
science with what philosophy and what
13:59
archaeology with what history is saying
14:01
so you got to look at those point of
14:03
intersections to see that god is a god
14:05
of order
14:06
god is a rational god and he shows us so
14:08
many evidences for his existence
14:10
that for us to reject it is to be
14:13
foolish
14:14
okay so again i just told you can we
14:16
know with certainty that god exists i
14:18
just showed it to you
14:19
now i want to go to romans and i want to
14:21
show you something important there
14:23
now there's two things about god we have
14:25
what we call the immediate the immediate
14:27
revelation of god and the immediate
14:29
revelation of god
14:30
now the immediate revelation of god is a
14:33
general revelation he has given us
14:35
uh through his word through his creation
14:38
okay through his created
14:39
um um the creation the entire universe
14:42
that we see
14:43
the trees people all things that we see
14:47
okay and if you go to romans 1 verse 15
14:50
to 23
14:51
the apostle paul under the inspiration
14:53
of the holy spirit
14:54
is saying that mankind has rejected a
14:56
certain truth and i want us to read
14:58
that before i i give you some
15:00
explanation here let's go to romans 1
15:02
verse 15 to 23. i'm gonna show it to you
15:05
in a second
15:09
listen to what paul says so
15:12
paul say therefore i am not ashamed of
15:14
the gospel
15:16
for it is the power of god for salvation
15:18
to everyone who believes to the jew
15:20
first and also to the greek
15:24
and he says this for the wrath of god
15:26
taken from uh beginning from
15:28
verse 18 for the wrath of god is
15:31
revealed
15:32
from heaven against all ungodliness
15:35
and unrighteousness of men who by their
15:38
unrighteousness suppress the truth and
15:40
we need to know what truth they are
15:41
suppressing
15:42
for what can be known about god is plain
15:46
to them for god has shown it to them
15:50
for his invisible attribute namely his
15:53
eternal
15:54
power and divine nature have been
15:56
clearly perceived
15:58
ever since the creation of the world in
16:00
the things that have been made so they
16:02
are without excuse for although they
16:05
knew god
16:07
they did not honor him as god or give
16:10
thanks to him but they became futile
16:12
in their thinking and their foolish
16:14
hearts were darkened
16:16
claiming to be wise they became fools
16:19
and exchanged the glory of the immortal
16:22
god
16:22
for images resembling mortal men and
16:25
birds and animals and creeping things
16:28
now you see this so what is paul saying
16:30
to us paul is saying that
16:32
mankind has rejected a certain truth
16:35
because of their own immorality and
16:38
ungodliness
16:39
and that truth is the truth about his
16:41
existence okay
16:42
paul is saying that mankind rejects the
16:45
reality of the existence of god
16:47
because of their own immorality so
16:50
basically
16:51
the reason why people reject god isn't
16:53
because
16:54
there's not enough evidence but it's
16:56
because they hate that he exists
16:58
okay if you reject god it's not because
17:01
you don't have enough evidence
17:02
it's because you hate that he exists
17:05
because you know
17:07
that your immorality the way you leave
17:11
is not pleasing to him so you don't want
17:13
there to be a god because you don't want
17:14
to be accountable
17:16
this is why you reject god it's not
17:18
because he doesn't exist
17:20
it's because you hate that he
17:23
exists because accusing to that truth is
17:26
going to show and expose your duplicity
17:29
and your lie and your immorality so you
17:31
don't want there to be a god so you
17:33
reject it
17:34
this is why people reject god it's not
17:37
because they don't have
17:38
evidence it's because they
17:41
hate that he exists okay
17:45
and then this is the immediate
17:46
revelation there's also the immediate
17:48
revelation okay
17:49
it is the internal revelation god has
17:52
imposed on the mind of every living
17:54
being
17:55
and he gets through because god makes
17:58
sure
17:58
he gets through god has imposed the
18:01
knowledge
18:01
of his existence in our minds and we
18:04
can't get rid of it
18:05
and i made reference to that when we
18:07
talked about self-consciousness okay
18:09
but if you go to scripture romans 12
18:11
romans 2 verse 14 to 16 we're going to
18:13
read something here listen to what the
18:15
scripture says in romans 2.
18:18
we're going to read that romans 2 verse
18:20
14 to 16.
18:23
okay for when gentiles we do not have
18:26
the law by nature do what the law
18:28
requires
18:30
you here for when gentiles would not
18:33
have the law
18:33
by nature by nature
18:37
do what the law requires they are a law
18:39
to themselves
18:40
even though they do not have the law
18:43
they show
18:45
that the work of the law is written on
18:47
their heart
18:48
while their conscience also bears
18:50
witness and their conflicting
18:52
thoughts accuse or even excuse them
18:56
on that day when according to my gospel
18:59
god judges the secret of man by christ
19:03
jesus so you can see that the law of god
19:06
is written on our hearts so it's not
19:08
like something that we can escape
19:10
god himself has imposed that law on our
19:13
mind so we cannot escape it and we
19:15
know we know it because you don't have
19:18
to know
19:18
the 10th commandment to know that
19:20
stealing is bad
19:22
so we were created to reflect the
19:24
character of god this is why by nature
19:26
okay by nature we do the things of the
19:28
law and there's a universal moral law
19:30
within our heart
19:31
then there is a law giver who's
19:33
transcendent and who constitutes
19:35
the absolute because he is the absolute
19:38
and for that matter
19:40
okay you cannot escape his knowledge
19:43
okay now here's the thing it's important
19:45
to prove that god exists
19:46
but it is equally important to prove
19:48
that the bible is his word and i just
19:50
showed it to you a little while ago
19:52
now what are the implications of this
19:53
the implication of these are eternal
19:55
do you believe in the god of the
19:57
scripture because if you don't believe
19:59
in the god of the scripture then you are
20:01
on your way to hell
20:02
and i'm not here to preach brimstone and
20:04
all that but this is the reality of it
20:06
i'm not gonna play games with you i'm
20:08
gonna tell you the truth
20:10
and let the truth set you free if you
20:12
don't believe in his god if you haven't
20:14
put your faith in jesus christ
20:15
as his son and who took the penalty for
20:18
your sins and my sins
20:20
you are on your way to hell to suffer
20:23
the wrath of god and it's not a laughing
20:26
matter
20:27
i'm not saying to scare you but i'm
20:29
saying it to scare you
20:31
yes i am because it is real it is not a
20:34
scat tactic
20:35
tactic because it is a reality that if
20:38
you don't believe in this god if you not
20:39
you have not placed
20:40
your faith in jesus christ to take the
20:43
penalty for your sins
20:44
the expiation and propitiation for your
20:46
sins then you are on your way
20:48
to perdition to eternal wrath you can
20:51
dislike what i say
20:53
but you can't shake it out of you
20:54
because it is truth
20:56
okay so that's all i'm gonna say to you
20:58
today have a wonderful day
21:00
and i'll see you next time
