Why Are Studio Monitors Sold Individually?

Studio monitors are sometimes sold individually - but why? Although it may be frustrating, there are good reasons that you might want to buy just one speaker, including for mono listening, for use in a surround sound setup, or to replace a single blown studio monitor.
