Cheese Quesadilla Recipe
Introduction
Cheese quesadillas are a quick and satisfying dish with roots in Mexican cuisine. Known for their crisp tortilla shells and gooey melted cheese centers, quesadillas make for a comforting snack or a full meal, depending on the sides. With minimal ingredients and easy steps, you’ll have a tasty quesadilla ready in minutes!
Ingredients
2 large flour tortillas (8-inch or larger)
1 cup shredded cheese (Mexican blend, cheddar, or Monterey Jack)
1 tablespoon butter or oil (for frying)
Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or chopped cilantro
Instructions
Prepare the Pan: Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Add half of the butter or oil to the pan to lightly coat the bottom.
Assemble the Quesadilla: Place one tortilla in the heated skillet. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the tortilla, leaving about ½ inch from the edge.
Top with Second Tortilla: Place the second tortilla on top of the cheese layer, pressing gently so the two tortillas stick together as the cheese melts.
Cook the Quesadilla: Let it cook for about 2–3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the quesadilla using a large spatula, then cook the other side for another 2–3 minutes until both sides are golden and the cheese is melted.
Remove and Slice: Transfer the cooked quesadilla to a cutting board. Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to slice it into wedges.
Cooking Tips
Cheese Choice: Mexican blend, cheddar, or Monterey Jack are ideal for their meltiness and flavor, but feel free to mix cheeses for added depth.
Low and Slow: Cooking on medium heat ensures the cheese melts evenly without burning the tortillas.
