Why do we strive for control around unpredictable behavior?

Unpredictable behavior can create a sense of uncertainty in us. This lack of clear reasoning behind someone's actions unsettles our nervous systems. In response, we often attempt to understand and control the situation, believing that if we act a certain way, we can influence their behavior. However, their actions are not a result of anything we did—they're simply acting in their own way. We tend to personalize their behavior, thinking it gives us a sense of control in an otherwise unpredictable environment.
