Two U.S. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups (USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 and USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72) made a show of strength with Japanese warships in formation, in the Philippine Sea on January 22, 2022. China made a counter-show of strength the same day by flying dozens of warplanes into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ).
