The whole world is still dependent on large amount of coal for energy. Coal mining has a very bad effect on the environment. Burning it releases harmful gases into the environment which is responsible for global warming. While all the countries of the world are trying to phase out coal energy, India is increasing its production by digging new coal mines and selling it to other countries as well. World's third richest person Adani is a Global Coal King. More than 60% of the Adani Group’s revenue is derived from coal-related businesses. Those businesses include four coal power plants, 18 coal mines and a coal-trading operation responsible for a quarter of imports into India, which relies on coal for 75% of its power generation. In this three part series, we are explaining rise of Adani's coal empire and controversies around his coal business. -------- About the organisation Ground Report is a Digital News platform, which aims to bring underreported environmental, health and gender-specific stories from the margins of India, primarily J&K, MP Delhi-NCR, and UP.
