Hi everyone, it's Global Scholarships
0:02
and I'm your host as I hope you're all
0:04
doing well. I hope everything is going
0:06
great and today we'll see the
0:07
application procedure of Harvard
0:09
University in the United States. Now you
0:11
can go to globalcolarships.com
0:13
right now and this is the page you will
0:14
see. Uh we have a search tool as you can
0:16
see you can just type in Harvard here
0:18
and choose as institution Harvard
0:20
University which will take you to our
0:22
page that we have for this to work. You
0:24
can get a lot of information from
0:25
location to population, scholarships,
0:28
admission procedure like we have some
0:30
admission results in here. We have
0:32
deadlines. Tuition is of course uh quite
0:35
high since it's you know Harvard and we
0:38
have scholarships here. Uh for
0:40
undergraduate you have financial aid
0:42
basically apply through common app for
0:43
this university and then you create a
0:45
CSS profile. Then you can also apply for
0:48
financial aid which can if you're a
0:50
really really really good student can
0:52
cover 100% of your demonstrated needs.
0:55
Uh we've talked about that in our
0:56
channel quite a lot. We have graduate
0:58
scholarships as well. Anyway, if you
0:59
want to apply you can just go uh click
1:01
here to go uh and see university's page
1:03
for applications where you can get a lot
1:05
of information. How do international
1:07
students apply? Which standardized tests
1:10
Harvard requires? Uh how do I take TOEFL
1:13
etc etc. Basically uh you apply through
1:16
as a lot of other American universities
1:18
you can apply through common app. So you
1:20
click here which will take you you to
1:22
basically commonapp.org.
1:24
This is a platform that you can create
1:26
an account uh that you can use apply for
1:29
a lot of uh universities in the United
1:31
States. Uh so here we create on create
1:34
an account. We're going to create a new
1:36
account. Uh we're going to go through
1:37
the whole like every step uh until the
1:40
very last step which is sending the
1:42
application. uh which I will not do do
1:45
because like first you have to pay like
1:47
$90 application fee and then I also
1:49
don't want to send them like a fake
1:51
application. This is just for
1:53
demonstration purposes. Uh here we
1:55
choose first year student and we're
1:56
going to give them our email and
1:58
password first our name contact details
2:02
etc etc. I'm going to choose I'm going
2:04
to use a temporary mail for
2:06
demonstration. Let's use this and then
2:08
choose a password which best describes
2:10
you. I'm applying as a first year
2:12
student and plan to study college in
2:15
2025 2026. I'm going to choose that one.
2:18
Of course, uh like it can change
2:20
depending on when you are applying. So,
2:23
let's just give them some madeup
2:24
information here. Let's add an address.
2:27
Turkey. Turkey. Just a random thing.
2:30
Let's pick. Are you currently based in a
2:32
European Union country? Iceland,
2:34
Likingstein, Norway, Switzerland, or the
2:36
United Kingdom. Now, would you like to
2:38
receive communications from Common App
2:40
about opportunities and resources? You
2:42
can choose yes. Of course, I'm going to
2:43
choose no here by checking this box. I
2:45
agree to the terms of use if I'm under
2:48
the age of 18. I represent that my
2:50
parent or legal guardian also agrees to
2:53
the terms of use on my behalf. So, let's
2:56
choose that and create an account.
2:57
Great. So, this is now their new
2:59
dashboard, updated dashboard. Here we
3:02
have um my common application, my
3:04
colleges, uh college search, direct
3:06
admission, financial aid. You can click
3:08
on any one of them to get information.
3:11
Basically, first you have to go through
3:13
my common application and like uh
3:15
complete all these sections like
3:17
profile, family, education, testing,
3:19
activities, writing and then you can
3:21
choose college search and uh you can
3:24
search for your college. I'm going to do
3:25
that now. uh because that gives you
3:28
information about like what your college
3:30
requires and doesn't require like what
3:32
are what is optional and not. So let's
3:33
choose Harvard University. Now Harvard
3:35
University is among our colleges. So if
3:38
I click on my colleges here we have
3:40
Harvard University. You can add more by
3:42
the way apply to more than one college
3:44
anyway. So let's let's basically
3:46
complete our my common application.
3:47
Basically this is our profile. So first
3:49
is personal information. Do you have any
3:51
materials under form or legal name? No.
3:53
That section is done. Uh we've gave them
3:56
our permanent home address, alternate
3:58
mailing address. I have no alternate
4:00
address. So let's choose that as well.
4:03
Contact details. Let's say mobile phone.
4:06
No other telephone. And go forward.
4:09
Demographics. We have gender, legal sex.
4:12
Let's choose male. I'm only I'm only
4:14
picking like the mandatory ones uh with
4:17
the red asterisk next to them because
4:19
like I don't want to make this too uh
4:21
long as a tutorial. Other ones you can
4:24
just answer yourself. So let's click on
4:26
continue. Language number of languages
4:29
you are proficient in. Let's choose two.
4:31
First one is let's say Turkish. My first
4:34
language basically. And then let's say
4:36
English. I'm going to say uh speak.
4:38
Okay. Geography and nationality. Birth
4:40
country, region, territory. Uh you can
4:42
choose all of this. I'm not going to do
4:44
that. Not mandatory. Your citizenship
4:46
status. I'm going to choose citizen of
4:49
non US country. And then we have list of
4:51
countries. List countries of
4:53
citizenship. I'm going to choose Turkey.
4:55
That's only country. That's the only
4:56
country I have a citizenship of. Do you
4:59
currently hold a valid US visa? No. Do
5:02
you intend to apply for a new or
5:04
different US visa? Yes. And I'm going to
5:06
choose here F1 student. Of course, the
5:09
answers are answers change depending on
5:12
your situation. So, I'm just trying to
5:14
demonstrate to you like just what a
5:16
generic student would go through. You're
5:18
eligible for application fee wavers if
5:20
you meet one or more of the following
5:22
criteria. Basically, you can apply for a
5:25
fee waiver. You're eligible for
5:26
application fee wavers. You can read all
5:28
of this and if you're like if anyone
5:30
anyone of this applies to you, you can
5:32
like do you meet one or more uh you can
5:34
choose yes and fee waver signature or
5:37
you can say no and pay $90 application
5:39
fee. Uh yeah, that's pretty much it for
5:41
this section. So profile is complete. We
5:44
have family, household, parent one,
5:46
parent two, and sibling. parents let's
5:48
say married uh with whom do you make
5:50
your both parents let's say do you have
5:52
any children no then we have parent one
5:54
so you can give them your information
5:56
your like parents information you can
5:58
choose highest education level graduate
6:00
from college university but then you
6:02
would have to like give them like
6:04
college information number of degrees
6:06
etc etc so here I'm going to just choose
6:08
high school graduate from high school or
6:10
secondary school and the same with
6:12
parent two click on continue and then
6:15
sibling if you have any sibling can
6:16
choose Just like one, two. I can give
6:18
them like first name, age, last name.
6:21
I'm going to choose zero here. Okay. So,
6:23
family is done. Now we have education,
6:25
current or most recent secondary high
6:27
school. You can click here to find
6:29
school, high school name, etc., etc. You
6:32
can just type in like whatever you are
6:34
looking for. Let's say I'm going to type
6:36
in. Let's see what we have. Yeah, you
6:39
can choose. For example, I can choose
6:40
anatolian high school. Or if you cannot
6:42
see your uh univers your high school
6:45
here you can choose I don't see my high
6:47
school in this list um and then you can
6:50
give them information about your uh
6:52
let's say high school address state
6:56
region let's say Turkey school type
6:58
public and that's it so we have our uh
7:01
high school here which is obviously made
7:03
up I'm not sure that might be there
7:05
might be an estumble no date of entry
7:08
let's say 2024 to 20 2020 to 2024. Did
7:13
you or will you graduate? Is this a
7:14
boarding school? No. Did you or will you
7:17
graduate from this school? Let's say
7:18
yes. And graduate date, graduation date,
7:21
let's just say 2024. Please indicate if
7:24
any of these options will have affected
7:26
your progression. Did or will graduate
7:28
early, late, take time off, gap year, or
7:32
no change in progression? Basically,
7:33
just a regular four-year
7:36
um high school. If you've attended any
7:37
secondary high schools not listed in the
7:39
previous section, please indicate
7:41
basically like if you went to two
7:43
different high schools. I'm going to
7:44
choose zero. If you choose one or two,
7:46
you give them the information about that
7:48
as well. Let's click on continue.
7:49
Colleges and universities. If you have
7:51
ever taken coursework at a college or
7:53
university, please indicate the number
7:55
of colleges. I'm going to choose zero.
7:57
Choose one and then give them
7:58
information. Grades, graduation, class
8:01
size, doesn't really matter. Let's say
8:03
50. GPA scale reporting. Cumulative GPA.
8:06
GPA waiting waiting you can give them
8:08
information about that so it's not
8:10
mandatory current or most recent year
8:12
courses please list all courses you are
8:14
taking this academic year if you're not
8:16
currently enrolled please list courses
8:18
from your most recent academic year so
8:20
basically your last year in high school
8:22
how many courses would you like to
8:24
report you can choose a lot let's say 12
8:27
perhaps you took six uh every semester
8:29
I'm going to choose I'm going to show
8:30
you how to do one uh course scheduling
8:33
system your institution is using
8:35
semester
8:36
Course subject let's say geometry course
8:38
name is course level is regular and the
8:41
schedule is first semester or second
8:44
semester let's say let's say first
8:46
semester and click basically you can
8:48
choose like 12 15 or how many ever you
8:51
had it's pretty much the same procedure
8:53
you wish to report any honors related to
8:55
your academic achievements beginning
8:57
with the 9th grade or international
8:59
equivalent and choose yes and give them
9:01
information about that or say no and
9:03
click on continue based organizations
9:06
indicate the number of community
9:07
programs or organizations that have
9:09
provided you with free assistance in
9:11
your application pro process. Uh you can
9:13
choose one two three and basically give
9:17
them all the information. I'm going to
9:18
choose zero here. Future plans applying
9:21
as a first year student. We've ch chosen
9:23
that already. Highest degree you intend
9:26
to burn. Let's say I don't know
9:28
doctorred. Career interest let's say
9:31
chef. Sure why not? You want to be a
9:33
doctor in kitchen. In addition to
9:34
sending official score reports as
9:36
required by colleges, do you wish to
9:38
selfreport scores or future test dates
9:41
of any of the following standardized
9:43
tests ACT, SAT, etc. I can choose yes
9:46
and basically give them all the
9:48
information that and then you would have
9:50
to basically give them the information.
9:51
So let's say SAT one uh SAT essay score
9:56
let's say yes or no. I'm going to choose
9:58
no here. Number of future SAT sittings
10:00
you expect let's say zero. Highest
10:02
evidence-based reading and writing
10:04
score, let's say 800. Evidence-based
10:06
reading and writing date, uh, let's say
10:09
2024. Highest math score, 800, and math
10:12
date, again, 2024. Obviously, you would
10:15
then when you apply to the university,
10:16
if you're admitted, uh, then you would
10:18
have to uh provide evidence like the
10:21
documents, activities. Reporting
10:22
activities can help colleges better
10:24
understand your life outside of the
10:26
classroom. Uh, examples of activities
10:28
might include, you can choose any one of
10:30
these. Let's say activity art etc.
10:34
Please describe this activity timing of
10:36
participation. I'm going to choose no
10:38
here and click on continue.
10:40
Responsibilities and circumstances.
10:42
Sometimes academics and activities are
10:44
impacted by household responsibilities
10:46
or other circumstances. Sharing this
10:48
information with colleges can help them
10:50
better understand the context of your
10:52
application. You may repeat information
10:54
you already provided elsewhere in your
10:56
common app. Please select which
10:57
responsibilities you spend four or more
10:59
hours per week doing. But you can read
11:02
all of this. Basically, if it's like
11:03
maybe you are taking care of your your
11:06
like one of your younger siblings, maybe
11:08
there is something in your household
11:10
that takes a lot of your time that you
11:13
have responsibility over that like farm
11:15
work, unpaid work, etc. Family business,
11:17
that sort of thing. I'm going to choose
11:19
none of these. You can choose other two
11:21
as well. I'm going to choose none of
11:22
these. Please select the cir which
11:24
circumstances you've experienced. As you
11:26
can see, this is uh kind of like the
11:28
hardships that you might have gone
11:30
through committing 60 minutes or more uh
11:33
to and from school each day without
11:36
reliably use or usable internet. You get
11:38
that? Yeah. Let's click and continue.
11:40
Okay. And the last one that we have to
11:41
go through is writing. We have personal
11:43
essay. Some colleges require submission
11:45
of the personal essay with your common
11:47
app. This is why I first added Harvard
11:51
to my colleges because as you can see it
11:54
shows me which of my colleges which of
11:56
the colleges that I picked require or
11:58
not require uh a personal essay. So
12:01
let's choose I understand. The essay
12:03
demonstrate your ability to write
12:05
clearly and concisely on a selected
12:07
topic and helps you distinguish yourself
12:09
in your own voice. Basically can choose
12:11
any one of these uh subjects. Uh, of
12:14
course I'm pretty sure you know there
12:15
are like there are ton of information
12:17
out there how to write a good personal
12:21
statement, good essay and you can also
12:25
head to global scholarships.com. We have
12:27
a lot of guides on that as well. And
12:29
let's click on continue. Additional
12:30
information. Sometimes a student's
12:32
application and achievements may be
12:34
impacted by challenges or other
12:36
circumstances. This could involve access
12:38
to a safe and quiet study place like
12:40
discrimination, physical health and
12:42
mental well-being. natural disasters,
12:44
war, conflict, etc. If you're
12:46
comfortable sharing, this information
12:48
can help colleges better understand the
12:50
context of your application. Colleges
12:52
may use this information to provide you
12:54
and your fellow students with support
12:56
and resources. Would you like to share
12:58
any details? You can choose yes and give
13:00
them pretty much another like kind of
13:02
kind of personal statement. Although
13:04
this is maximum uh 250 words. So, let's
13:08
choose no. Would you like to share any
13:10
additional details or qualifications not
13:12
reflected in the application? You can
13:14
choose yes and again write it down or
13:17
choose no. Okay. So the part that we
13:20
have about our application about our
13:22
profile is complete. So this is the
13:25
basic stuff. Uh now we're going to go
13:27
and do what our colleges the colleges
13:30
that we have picked require. So this is
13:33
my common application. And then here
13:35
we're going to choose my colleges. If
13:37
you have more than one college here,
13:38
you're going to have to go through each
13:40
one and uh do their requirements one by
13:43
one. Uh we only have one here. So,
13:45
Harvard University, let's say college
13:48
information, uh like we have deadlines,
13:50
links, contact information, application
13:53
fees, courses, recommendations.
13:56
These are the ones that that are
13:57
required. Writing requirements, personal
14:00
essay, etc. Let's click on general.
14:02
Preferred start term. Let's say fall
14:04
2026. This is the one that is available
14:07
right now. Of course, when you're
14:08
applying to this university on some
14:11
other date, uh it might be different.
14:13
Preferred admission plan, let's say
14:15
regular decision, preferred residence
14:17
during your first year, let's say on
14:19
campus. Do you intend to apply for
14:20
need-based financial aid? So, uh we talk
14:24
a lot about need-based financial aid in
14:26
our on our channel. So I'm not going to
14:28
go through uh go into a lot of detail
14:30
but basically a lot of American
14:32
universities they take care of your
14:34
financial needs uh like the amount that
14:37
you would need but your family cannot
14:39
cover perhaps if you're a really good
14:41
student. Uh so you can just go and watch
14:43
uh like basically we made a video about
14:46
uh financial aid in Harvard University.
14:48
I think that was a couple of days ago uh
14:50
maybe last Saturday. You can look into
14:52
that. But pretty much you can apply if
14:55
you want to apply for this then at some
14:57
point you're going to have to give them
14:58
a lot of information about your like
15:00
financial situation your family's like
15:02
tax records etc etc uh so they can get
15:05
an understanding of how much your family
15:07
can contribute to your education costs
15:10
I'm going to choose no here do you
15:11
intend to submit supplementary media
15:13
materials like video audio images to be
15:15
considered as a part of the admission
15:17
process to Harvard portfolio materials
15:19
can illustrate special talents in
15:21
academics And in one or more of the
15:24
arts, you can choose yes or you can
15:26
choose no. I'm going to choose no. Did
15:28
you or did you plan or do you plan to
15:30
take SAT or ACT? Let's say yes. Please
15:33
report your scores on common
15:36
application. If you do not have yet
15:38
scores, if you do not yet have scores,
15:40
you will be able to report them through
15:42
Harvard's applicant portal after you
15:44
submitted your application. So, we've
15:46
done that already like report your
15:47
scores on common application. Remember
15:49
when we said when we gave them our SAT
15:52
score which was obviously made up for
15:54
me. Harvard offers 50 fields of study.
15:56
You can learn more about Harvard's
15:58
curriculum and fields of study which we
16:00
call concentrations here. You can click
16:02
here. While we do not admit applicants
16:04
to particular programs. We invite you to
16:06
indicate which fields of study you would
16:09
be interested in exploring further at
16:11
Harvard. Please list in order of
16:13
interest. I'm going to choose economics
16:14
here which is my area. I can choose more
16:16
than once. Let's say anthropology, bio,
16:19
history. On a scale of 1 to five, how
16:22
definite do you consider your academic
16:24
plans to be? Let's say you are
16:25
completely certain. Let's choose one. On
16:27
a scale of 1 to five, how definite do
16:30
you consider your vocational plans to
16:32
be? Let's say three. Sure. How definite
16:35
are your extracurricular and or athletic
16:37
interests? Let's say three. Are applying
16:39
for a program with the New England

18:55
veterans are currently serving etc. I'm
18:58
going to choose no. Harvard college is
19:00
an academic and residential community
19:02
devoted to learning and the creation of
19:04
knowledge. We academic community of
19:06
Harvard College including view integrity
19:08
as the basis for intellectual discovery,
19:10
artistic creation, independent
19:12
scholarship and meaningful. You can read
19:13
all of this. Harvard has long recognize
19:15
the importance of enrolling a student
19:17
body with a diversity of perspectives
19:19
and experiences. How will the life
19:21
experiences that shaped who you are
19:23
today enable you to contribute to
19:25
Harvard? Yeah, this is also some sort of
19:27
like a very short personal statement. Uh
19:30
you can type in whatever you think it
19:32
is. Describe a time when you strongly
19:34
disagreed with someone about an idea or
19:36
issue. How did you communicate or engage
19:39
with this person? What did you learn
19:41
from this experience? Briefly described
19:43
any of your extracurricular activities,
19:46
employment experience, travel or family
19:48
responsibilities that have shaped who
19:49
you are. How do you hope to use your
19:52
Harvard education in the future? Top
19:54
three things your roommates might like
19:56
to know about you. And let's click on
19:58
continue. So we have now fura.
20:00
Basically, Furpa is your right to be
20:04
able to read anything that is relevant
20:06
to your application. That includes any
20:09
recommendation letter or anything like
20:11
that. But universities realize that if
20:15
you have the right to review your
20:17
recommendation letters, a lot of the
20:19
people who are teaching you or who can
20:22
write recommendation letters for you
20:24
will not be very willing to write
20:26
recommendation letters or their
20:28
recommendation letters will not be
20:30
genuine which is why that uh the
20:32
universities ask you to give up your
20:35
right to review those documents.
20:38
Basically that's what furpa means. Purpa
20:40
release authorization learn. You can
20:42
click here to learn more about Purpa. In
20:44
the application, you'll be asked if you
20:46
want to wave the right to review
20:48
confidential letters of recommendation.
20:50
Waving your rights lets colleges know
20:52
that you do not intend to read your
20:54
recommendations, which helps to reassure
20:56
colleges that the letters are candid and
20:58
truthful. So, complete release
21:00
authorization. We we also have another
21:02
like explanation here. Let's choose yes.
21:06
acknowledge that every school that I
21:08
have attended may release all etc etc. I
21:10
wave my right to review all
21:12
recommendations and supporting
21:14
documents. I understand that my waiver
21:16
or no waiver selection above pertains to
21:18
all colleges which I apply and that my
21:20
selections on this page cannot be
21:22
changed after any recommendation letter
21:24
or application submission. The signature
21:26
and a date and save and close. All
21:29
right. So now we're going to give them
21:30
some like counselors and teachers. You
21:33
must invite a school counselor who will
21:35
complete the school report and other
21:37
forms for you. Let's invite someone.
21:39
Obviously, this is also going to make be
21:42
made up. Okay, invite. Of course, for
21:44
you, this is going to be have to like
21:46
genuine the real email address. Now,
21:49
we're going to have to get two teachers
21:51
require this too. Please select and
21:53
assign the teachers below whose
21:55
recommendation will be submitted to this
21:57
college on your behalf. You must invite
21:59
a teacher with the invite teacher button
22:01
before you can assign them to this
22:03
college. Let's say invite teacher. Let's
22:05
say English. Would you like this teacher
22:07
to complete an evaluation your of your
22:10
for your Harvard University application?
22:12
Let's say yes. Invite. So when you
22:14
normally do that, the invitation will go
22:16
to their email address. And then let's
22:18
invite another one. Let's say math.
22:21
Would you like this teacher to complete
22:22
an evaluation for your Harvard
22:24
University application? Let's say yes.
22:26
Okay. So this section is also done. Uh
22:28
now we only have to review and submit
22:30
our common app application. You are
22:33
ready to review and submit your
22:34
application to Harvard University. The
22:36
submission proceed process includes the
22:38
following steps. Step one, review your
22:41
application. Step two, pay the
22:42
application fee. Your application will
22:44
not be submitted until you complete your
22:46
signature and affirmations and then
22:48
submit your application. Let's click on
22:50
review and submit. Here we can review
22:52
your entire uh application. You can
22:54
download this and see it as a PDF and
22:58
let's click on continue. Oh, choose
23:00
this. Check this box. All right. So, we
23:04
this is the payment application fee $90.
23:07
Obviously, if you have not um applied
23:09
for a fee waver, let's let's click on
23:12
continue, which will take us to a
23:15
payment portal. Common app payment
23:18
amount. How would you like to pay
23:19
international payment? Y wire $90. Here,
23:22
let's click on continue. Uh you can
23:24
choose country or region. Let's say
23:26
Turkey.
23:28
Click on next. And this is the amount in
23:30
local currency. Uh you can choose this
23:33
and pay with Visa or Mastercard. And
23:36
that's it. This is where I stop
23:38
obviously because I will not give them u
23:40
like a credit card information or
23:42
something like that since I'm already
23:44
not going to send the fake application.
23:46
Submit the fake application. Anyway,
23:48
that's pretty much it. After after you
23:49
pay this, you can submit your
23:51
application and if everything is right,
23:54
your like you your counselor, your
23:56
teachers uh accept the invitation
23:58
through their email address, uh
24:00
everything should be fine. And that's
24:02
pretty much it. I hope you found this
24:03
informative. If you did, please be sure
24:05
to give us a like and subscribe for more
24:07
content. Also, we have do also we do
