The rift deepened after Musk criticised Trump’s flagship tax and spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” In a post on X, the tech billionaire warned the bill would increase the U.S. budget deficit and burden Americans with “crushing” debt. The legislation, which includes major tax breaks and increased defence spending, passed the House of Representatives last month and is now under review in the Senate. “He’s used a flamethrower on Trump,” Marks says. “He’s trying to torpedo the bill.” Marks adds that this could become a major issue for Trump, as Musk is effectively urging others to join him in opposing the plan.
