We are truly overwhelmed to the point where, I'll stop talking very quickly because I might cry
0:05
we can't believe and we're so thankful, truly. We're emotional, Rex. All of us have hit some really low points in our life
0:12
and so coming back and doing this again is sort of, I don't know, it's fixing everything
0:18
It's incredible. Good morning, it's Hot 90s Breakfast. I'm Kevin Hughes. I've waited 25 years to say the phrase, I have a full house of five. Yay
0:25
In the studio, there's a full house of five, and that is a beautiful, lovely thing
0:30
Boys, good morning. How are you? We are on top of the world
0:34
I feel the energy. There is an aura of wow. The most important thing is that us five have connected
0:39
in a way none of us ever thought we would. And you've done it in a way, Scott
0:44
Mariah is saying, so under the radar. Secret meetings in Airbnbs is how we've done it
0:50
It was a moment of magic and a moment in time, and I mean that sincerely
0:54
where I was like overwhelmed on that very first moment where I was like, this feels so special
1:01
it feels so genuine, it feels so real. It was a lot of unfinished business, it was unresolved and it wasn't, I'm not talking about business
1:09
it's just for our personal lives, I don't think any of us would be healed
1:13
without reconnecting. No, absolutely not. But to have that moment in an Airbnb
1:19
because we've seen some documentaries... That sounds dodgy the way you do. Okay, sorry, yeah, yeah. Can you explain that properly
1:25
Talk me through just that moment. What sort of conversations did you have? What sort of memories did you want to bring up
1:30
How did it work, Jason? How did it go? Well, it was an immediate thing
1:35
Three of the guys were already at the house. Abs picked myself up from the train station
1:40
so we arrived together. We couldn't actually find the doorbell or how to get in at first, if you remember
1:46
We were outside. Because I had taped up the ring doorbell so no one could see us, that's why
1:51
So we didn't know how to get in. And then when we finally managed to alert them to the fact that we're there
1:55
they opened the door and it was just immediate. It was never going to be anything other than that
2:01
We all just individually walked around to each other and embraced each other and just stood outside
2:06
just hugging each other for a couple of minutes. But just from that initial moment
2:10
it was just apparent that nothing had changed between us. Nothing could break us
2:15
Yeah, that that bond that's always been there was still there. Sean is what brothers, it's family, it's a whole thing
2:21
You can't, you can't. You have an essence there. None of us can relate to him, sure, but you know it
2:25
No, it's 100%. You know, a lot of our downfalls were well documented
2:30
because, I don't know, people find that more engaging. But the essence that you're talking about
2:35
the real, real, deep, true bond, it was always there, it wasn't really spoken about
2:41
and it wasn't always that transparent either when we were bowled into a building shouting and carrying on
2:46
But it was there, and it's still there, and that timeless thing is there
2:50
and we sort of evolved individually and then we come back and it all making some sense And here we are in 2025 there is a tour it is all happening abs and it going to kick off on halloween
3:03
which is surely an appropriate night for a massive celebration yeah we cannot wait we cannot wait um it's going to be amazing and to have this opportunity
3:16
for myself personally speaking to do what i do best i consider what this is what i do i have
3:22
no qualifications or grades or any other expertise are rock and roll
3:26
Everyone is talking about this tour. Everyone wants to come see you again. Yeah, it's genuinely overwhelming
3:32
And, like, we're in a bubble, so we don't fully get it. And you're like, I think it's doing really well
3:38
And we're going, are these numbers good? Yeah. And our management are going, yes
3:41
These numbers are very good. Yeah. I think it's going ridiculously well, because you've added loads of extra shows as well
3:47
I know, end of last week, another O2. Wow. But five are going to play the O2 in London
3:52
Yeah, and we never actually played the 0-2 because it wasn't there. We never played Leeds Arena either, I would like to say, as a Yorkshire man
3:59
Because it didn't exist. Truly, we never expected that we could do that
4:04
You know, everyone thinks, oh, no, they're just trying to be, you know, humble. You know, genuinely, when you've been away for this long
4:09
you have no idea how it's going to go, how you're going to be received
4:14
And we are truly overwhelmed to the point where, I'll stop talking very quickly because I might cry
4:19
we can't believe, and we're so thankful, truly, You've turned a mouthful
4:23
I've been hearing about the emotion. We're emotional wrecks. We're just in a good positive way
4:31
but I think it's 25 years of, I don't know what it is
4:36
Madness. Madness. I mean, the band really affected us. Like, you know, it wasn't like we made it famous
4:42
and it was brilliant and we've just been living, like yachting around the med
4:45
It really hasn't been like that. Like, all of us have hit some really low points in our life
4:51
and so coming back and doing this again is sort of i don't know it's fixing everything incredible
4:57
yeah mesmerizing it's been the biggest thing the biggest overarching theme in all of our lives
5:03
since the first day we got into the band yeah so 20 odd years of not doing it still five even for
5:10
myself going so far away from this whole thing it's still been the biggest thing in my life in
5:16
my mind, in my heart, all this time later. So to come back like this, it really is quite
5:22
a beautifully overwhelming thing that's going on. You're going to set me off now
5:27
Yeah. Come on, Kate. Should I have a group hug? Should I have a group hug? I'm so happy for you all, I really am
5:32
We know what the people are coming for, they want to hear the bangers, and that's what
5:36
we're there for, and we just want to give it. Yeah. And Jay's going to do a version of how much is that doggy in the window, acoustic
5:43
We can't wait. We're going off stage for a tea break, Jay's doing that. And we've agreed, it was only yesterday, weren't it
5:48
We integrated a harmonica into our Oh I told you What What did you say Yeah
6:01
Hey, hey, hey! Let's go! Hot, ladies! Oh, man! Woo! Woo! Yes, Scott, come on
6:09
Round of applause for the musicality. I bet you didn't think I had it with me. I didn't, actually
6:13
I did. That was Scott playing the harmonica. I never thought I'd see that
6:17
Thank you for that exclusive. Just in case, if the hits let us down, we've always got
6:21
We've always got the new material in the back pocket. They won't go to the bar. It's okay
6:24
They'll really embrace that section. Here's the big thing, though. Are we getting Inspector Gadget
6:29
You're the second person that I don't know what we need. Maybe we are. That's crazy
6:33
Maybe we are. Maybe we are. Maybe we are. Maybe we are. I can't take that
6:39
So, Richard, that's been tweaked and worked on. You must have so many drafts and ideas
6:44
Yeah, I mean, look, we've got three number one albums, I think
6:48
Were they all number one? I don't know. I'm not sure. Three hit albums. We've got loads of albums and loads of songs
6:53
Say it with your chest, it's unbelievable. There might be a few surprises in there as well. Do you have favourites that you've already discussed
6:59
I said, right, from the outset, this is what we do. I think there's some songs that are non-negotiable
7:03
like Keep On Moving, Everybody Get Up, If You're Getting Down, When I Like It's Got The Feeling
7:08
Slammed On The Funk, Let's Dance. We have to do all them. Quite a few
7:12
All the ones we've got. Quite a few in there. Quite a few bands. Also, here's the thing about this arena
7:19
and why I'm so, so happy to see it. Because obviously at the end of last year, I was watching the Louis III documentary
7:24
Yeah. So we're watching the boy band documentary, but there was such an outpouring of love
7:28
and interest, obviously, in your story because that was such an honest account
7:32
of your years in the band. Did that resonate with you all as well, Scott
7:36
Did that help with the decision to come back? Or by that point, you already said
7:41
right, this is happening next year. No, no. So it's so weird how things work
7:46
and how life chucks you things and the order of things. We'd done the documentary
7:50
It was moments after, within weeks or a month, we then met for the first time
7:56
So it sort of felt like a moment in time. Things were already healing in our minds before this chapter
8:02
Things like that have helped with the process. Catharsis. In talking about it and then meeting public
8:08
and people sort of understanding what you went through. It's a massive part of the process
8:14
It's not just something you just do. It has helped in everything. ever since like we got together
8:20
and started talking the synchronicities things have just just laying up in front of us like in a crazy way
8:28
almost like there's a force trying to make it happen seriously I'm not even joking
8:33
we choose our launch date and it coincides that it's 25 years
8:38
to the day that we open the Brits with Queen and I've just said that
8:42
out loud which is amazing and one hour Brit and then we turn up at the Brits
8:46
he just on that day It incredible You can make that up No you can Are there some songs that you are nervous about performing in terms of the choreography or the lyrics No No
8:58
It's all going to come back. No, no. I mean, obviously, we haven't been in rehearsals yet, but we can't wait for rehearsals
9:03
which sounds mental because I never liked rehearsals back in the day and I think that speaks
9:07
for all of us. But the dance rehearsals we're excited about and just so you know
9:11
we're not going to be sitting on stalls because we're a bit older. We're going to smash it
9:16
out of the park. We are. And that's a promise. And now there's members of your own family
9:20
who can finally see what you did. How amazing is that? Don't get me started on that
9:25
We've got kids and, you know, for my four children to come back
9:30
and I only found out today, my oldest son, Brennan, he's away travelling and when we do the O2
9:37
he's only just going to have come home. So I'm not going to have seen him for over a year
9:41
and he's going to come back to watch me at the O2. The next generation going to watch Oasis, for example
9:46
and they weren't born when they were out the first time around
9:51
and I think that's great that music can spread to different generations
9:56
Yeah, it's incredible That's quite amazing as well Jason that you are back in the same year that Oasis are back together
10:00
The lads are back It's the year of the lads Listen, the other question obviously
10:06
everyone is asking is will there be new music? Are you recording
10:10
Are you thinking about it? What's going on? We are concentrating solely
10:16
on the tour, the performance of the tour, and that's all our energy's
10:20
going into at the moment. We're not looking past it at all. Unless Scott gets the old harmonica out
10:25
and then something might just come in. You never know when inspiration's coming. There might be a new version
10:29
of Inspector Gadget. Yeah, I think about that. Abs on the ukulele, Scott on the harmonica
10:34
Rich on the spoons, me on the washboard, and Sean's going to be on the trumpet
10:39
This is going to be a great show. What a show. It's going to be so. Get your tickets there
10:43
It starts Halloween, the tickets are selling, and there's no tomorrow, and then you get a busy summer, I know
10:47
and then it's all about the end of the year, so it must be such a beautiful feeling
10:51
to know that 2025 is going to be, you'll look back on this year as being a year like no other
10:55
I am actually shell-shocked. Sometimes I actually can't speak. I'm like, what the hell is going on
11:01
When I get home, it's going to be like falling out of a washing machine. I mean, last week we're talking about
11:07
we're concentrating on 12 dates, and this week, I mean, I can't even count them
11:11
because I keep on adding them, and I keep on going, how many is that now? I can't actually remember how many, but what a journey
11:18
Cannot wait to see you boys on that stage. To see you all here today is such a beautiful, lovely thing
11:23
Thank you. As someone who was interviewing you back in the day, chasing you around Europe and awards shows and Europe and talking to you
11:30
Sorry, Scott, about that. The Australian order's been lifted. But you're back and the tour is happening
11:34
Five, thank you for being hard 90s. You know what I've got to play right now? I'm playing Keep On Moving. Yes
11:39
Is it? I'm not kidding. It's in the set list, isn't it? It's the name of the title. Of course it is
