You've got a cold plunge
0:01
You want me to get in there, yeah? Oh, it's cold. How about you start messing about
0:11
Is this what you call a treat for Father's Day? Don't let me do another one too soon
0:17
Happy Father's Day to you. It's a very special day for us and, of course, our dads
0:21
That's why I'm taking my old man, Big Mark, out today. I've got a plan, all thanks to Hart and Nat West
0:26
and my dad has no idea what's about to happen. Hey, got me up on a crack of dawn
0:41
This is a beautiful spa. Father's Day treat. This is all the people that have been here
0:47
Look, Justin Bieber, Kate Moss, your favourite media from Game of Thrones
0:53
We're going to have a little bit of relaxing time. Give ourselves something back. Just us do it
0:57
Just us. Nothing else? No, we'll have a nice little chat. Steam room sauna, cold plunge
1:01
Let's do it. Why not? Ready? What are you doing? Look at that
1:08
Big MW, your own personalised dressing gown. Let's do it. What do you think you're taking us on
1:13
Look at that. When we come in, I was quite shocked. I thought we was going to have a bit of breakfast somewhere
1:19
What are we doing here at 7.30 in the morning? Hello, guys, and welcome to Banya number one
1:24
So today we'll be doing hot and cold cycle, alternating between cold and the heat exposure
1:31
I'll hold you there, Dennis. You want me to get in there, yeah? We never had nothing like this at all
1:36
What, cold plunge? Cold plunge? We just jumped in the hot bath. We had ten of us in the same bath
1:40
Welcome to the modern day, Dennis. Yeah, let's do this. Cold plunge was a little bit apprehensive, to say the least
1:48
Come in, just do this. Straight in, Dad, no messing about. I'm not sure about this. Sorry. Ooh
1:56
Oh, it's cold. Stop being a melt and get in Oh it cold I do you do this When you first get in a cold plunge it so hard
2:18
because it's so cold. But I've done it before, so I know the kind of breathing exercises I need to do
2:23
I know what I need to think. For me, Dad is a newbie. How do you do this
2:28
I know you stop messing about. Yeah. Breathing exercises, Dad. Where you going
2:40
To get in a cold plunge, which I'd never done, was a little bit of a shock
2:45
But I got up to my waist. Mark, as you see, went under. But it was cold
2:50
It's different. Very different. Is this what you call a treat for Father's Day
2:55
Don't let me do another one too soon. Get me in the sauna
3:00
I think today the ice plunge sums up what my dad's all about, which is just doing anything for his kids
3:07
He didn't want to go in there, but he knew I wanted him to go in there, and that's why he gave it a go
3:16
That's better, much better. Jesus, my legs are literally tingling. You went up to your knees
3:22
I went up to your waist. I thought you were going to do that. You proper melted there. Listen, that's not a Father's Day treat
3:28
Is this a Father's Day treat? This is much, much more me
3:32
We'll have a treat. She's got me in store for me, though. There's a few other little rooms. Nice massage
3:37
That's pushing me a bit too far. That's how I'm going to buzz you. Do you want to put your hand in your pocket
3:42
I'll treat you. I think it's quite nice. Just the two of us, two men, fathers
3:47
They talk about what we want to talk about. Do what we want to do. This is enjoyable
3:52
All right, let's get a bit of an idea. Shall we go to the next one? Yeah, let's try it. Let's try it. Yeah
4:00
I quite like this. It's a bit of a treat for me. Didn't expect to enjoy it as much, did
4:06
you? No. I thought it was a perfect Father's Day treat. Both have a little break, get away, have a
4:12
chat I over a year into fathering now You took to it like a duck to water I can believe it Well I can actually because I was very similar but your first one always your artist that what they say but you uh you done really well we been very lucky me and my
4:28
brothers and sisters to have a dad and a mum like you and mum so we can learn from it because
4:33
obviously you learn from people above you and i just i feel like a lot of my fathering
4:38
comes from how you fathered us but you'll bring her up how you were brought up yeah exactly and i
4:43
I can see that in the first year or so. I can feel it already as well, just like little things I'll do and say and think
4:49
It's not just fatherhood I've learned from you. It's also like in terms of business
4:54
I just feel like obviously we've done completely different things in life, but I've learned that any career, you have your knocks and you have your downs
5:02
And even going back to when I used to play football, it's all I wanted to do to be a footballer. When I got released at a young age, my world come crashing down
5:10
But after watching you go through what you went through in younger life, which basically they said it right, you was on the floor and managing to get back
5:17
I was on the floor from being a hub here. Yeah. Yeah? And unfortunately, but that learned me a lot
5:23
And you see it all, all you kids. You see what me and mum went through
5:28
When you were down, which was like the late 80s, 90s, it must have been a lot harder for men because in this day and age
5:35
as it should have been then, it's a lot more acceptable to talk about your problems, talk about your feelings
5:40
and talk about being down. Back then, men had to bottle it up because it was like
5:44
oh, you've got to be a strong man, you can't talk about it, you've got to just move on and push it
5:48
That must have been tougher because you're bottling it all inside. When that happens, you don't want to appear to be weak
5:53
So you put on a sort of brave sort of face, if you like. How did you actually pull yourself out
5:59
How did you keep that motivation to keep going? Some people in life, I'll stop being rude saying this
6:05
it's like nine to five, they love that, you know? But I was more wanting to work for myself
6:10
I just take chances. It doesn't matter how low I got, you know
6:14
it's about being strong and resilient. And that's what I've taught in you
6:18
And I do honestly believe that is like, that has led me into being as driven as I am
6:24
I've not had to teach you too much, because I look and see. I can see you've got it instilled in you
6:28
and that how I was when I was young You know you gone from strength to strength which is fantastic And never giving up That the main message Never ever give up in life Because there always a way to get back if you work hard enough
6:39
You don't try your best and get nowhere. See, the thing is, when I was younger, I thought that when I start earning money
6:46
it's going to be about, oh, I feel wealthy, I've got materialistic things, but it's nothing to do with that
6:51
All I think about now is being able to pay the bills, knowing my daughter's going to have a good life
6:55
a roof above her head, and my family around me. Family comes first
6:59
and then just a comfortable life comes second. That's what I try to instill in you when you was young
7:04
I'm just happy getting my rent paid, getting my groceries, having a holiday once, twice a year, and I'm very content with that
7:11
I think when people are young, they're so driven, they want everything, they want so much
7:14
But as you get older, you start to mellow and realise life is more important than money and most things
7:21
Yeah, as long as you've got a comfortable amount that you can enjoy your life
7:24
I think the famous saying, and I love this saying, is you've got to work to live, not live to work
7:31
Exactly. As long as I'm happy with the life I've got, which I am, that's fine. All right, Mark, I think it's been very relaxing
7:36
We've had a little chat. Let's get changed, showered, and find an nearest pub. Let's do it
7:40
Let's go. It was a great Father's Day for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it
7:45
What we spoke about today was our past, my past, his past, his future
7:50
I thought it was quite positive. What's this? But our small tradition here, you will go on our wall of fame
7:57
Just before you put that up, don't put it up if you're going to bring it back down. Okay. Are we going to stay on this wall with the likes of Bieber and Kate Moss just to make us happy
8:05
I promise. Today has actually turned into something so much more special than I even imagined
8:09
and something that I'm going to hold forever because my dad's validation and him being proud of me has always been my number one passion, really
8:18
That was worth it alone. Thank you so much, guys. Dennis, you're a legend. Thank you very much, my man
8:22
Dennis thanks so much. For him to tell me that I've taken to fatherhood like a duck to water
8:29
which is basically him telling me I'm so proud of you because about as much as I'll get out of him
8:32
is something I'll hold forever because that to me means more than anything that I'm doing well as a
8:38
dad. If you fancy a pint we'll be in the pub on the corner. See you later
