The infected, one of the things I notice is they are all naked
0:04
Yes. Was that weird at the catering truck? I mean, once you've seen it, you've kind of become a little bit..
0:08
Yeah, they all look the same, don't they, Jo? Once in one naked and infected
0:13
Our special guest this morning is one of the finest actresses of her generation
0:18
Do you like that? It's Jodie Cumber. Yes! Gosh, we are so excited to have you in the studio today
0:25
Have you noticed how busy the office is as well? Normally it's not, but Jodie's in. Some people are really milling around for you
0:29
I appreciate it. Now, your new movie, 28 Years Later, is out on Friday
0:36
Yes. Just quickly, for those who maybe haven't seen any of the previous two films
0:41
give us a kind of brief idea of what the movie's all about. Yeah, so this film is a direct follow-up from 28 Days Later
0:48
directed by Danny Boyle, written by Alex Garland. And this film follows a small community who live on an island
0:56
which is connected to the mainland of the UK by a causeway. And it's kind of an exploration of how these people have survived the rage virus after all this time
1:05
The protagonist is a young actor called Alfie Williams who plays Spike. And it's essentially his kind of coming of age story in this bonkers world
1:15
It's your first time working with Danny Boyle. What was that like? He's amazing. He's the best
1:21
You know, he's someone who I've admired for such a long time. And then to get on set with him and realise that he's just as much of a lovely human being
1:28
as an incredibly kind of playful, energetic set. I think we'd all, I think if you asked anyone on this job
1:35
if they'd work with him again, we're already kind of like banging his door down
1:38
Me for the next one, me. Next one. Want to be a next one
1:43
Well, this film is one of three. Yes. The second film has already been shot by Nia DaCosta Oh wow okay But yeah but I You not allowed to say anything Oh can say anything You can tell us We promise we won tell anyone We won play it to the nation
1:57
We won't, yeah. You mentioned the infected. Is it wrong to say it's a zombie film
2:02
Yes. Okay, we don't use the Z word. I did a little bit of a press with Ray Fiennes on Saturday
2:06
and he was being very good in telling everyone it's not a zombie, it's the infected
2:10
Okay, now the infected. One of the things I noticed is they are all naked
2:15
Yes. Is that weird? Was that, like, I'm thinking about, like, during lunch breaks and stuff
2:20
Was that weird at the catering truck? I mean, everyone kind of had a robe, but the robes were always
2:25
it was all very kind of lax. I think once you've seen it, you'll kind of become a little bit..
2:29
Yeah, they all look the same, don't they, Jodie? Once you've seen one naked and infected
2:33
It was funny because I just never questioned it, weirdly. It was, you know, there's something about the infected
2:39
and they've kind of, you know, we come into the world with nothing on and there's something kind of very primal and animalistic about them
2:45
that it was just kind of, it was part of the story. So I never went along with it
2:50
It wasn't Daddy going, eyes up, Jodie. Now, one of the stars of the film, Alfie Williams
2:57
very young actor, only 12 years old, but what a bright future ahead for that young man
3:03
How was that? Because you play his mother in the film. Yeah, he's amazing, Alfie
3:07
It was great because we had like a two-week rehearsal period before we started with Aaron and I and Danny and Alex
3:13
where we could just kind of like build that history and that bond and get kind of tactile with each other
3:18
And it's interesting because my character within the film isn't well. So actually he is often having to play the role of parent and caregiver
3:27
So it was a kind of a, it was nuanced, you know, we had to find that
3:32
So yeah, but he's amazing. He's so brilliant. 28 Years Later comes out this Friday
3:37
In the film the character you play she from was it Geordie would you say Geordie yeah yeah It a Northeastern accent Yeah we all playing Northeastern accents You well your skill in accents is pretty interesting
3:51
Oh, she loves her accent, this one. She nails it. How do you go about preparing for, do you have, do you watch a lot of Saturday Night Takeaway
3:59
I don't know, how does it you get into that kind of Ant & Dec vibe
4:03
I have an amazing dialect coach, and it's hard, it's hard, the Geordie accent
4:08
And it's kind of lucky that there's a kind of musicality to it, which Liverpool kind of has
4:12
But Cheryl Cole, Cheryl Cole was a good one. Was she your inspiration
4:17
I wouldn't say she was my inspiration for the role, but it was definitely helpful
4:21
You know, it's good to kind of have YouTube videos to kind of reference. Is that how you do it
4:26
It's part of it, you know, and then the rest of it is drilling and homework and constantly doing it
4:31
I think the Geordie accent, I love doing accents, obviously not on the same level, but the Geordie accent
4:36
Yeah, listen, ready? Right, ready? Go on, and we'll have to go. Okay, first of all, Jodie's quiz
4:40
We have to guess where Zoe's coming from. Well, hold on. Three, two, one, go
4:45
Why are you, man? Your chicken Kiev's in the microwave. Hollywood Beckons
4:52
That was not my bingo card. Hollywood Beckons. Are you impressed by that
4:56
I am. Thank you, Jodie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sisterhood. Yeah. Thank you. So, obviously, we had, because, of course, Killing Eve Russian
5:02
Mm-hmm. Was that tricky? Yeah. Yeah, it was harder than Russian. Yeah
5:07
Because she was from Russia, but hadn't lived there, which actually gave me a little bit of freedom
5:13
Did you get them to add that little bit? Yeah. No, luckily it was already there. Yeah, that was already there because she travelled so much
5:19
I was like, okay. And what about American? Give us the American accent. That is so hard
5:23
I'm not giving you the amount. I'm not working this morning. I'm getting here to provide my movie
5:29
You are, that's absolutely true. Can we talk about Aaron Taylor Yes Because he tipped to be the next James Bond Was there any whispers on set Guys it so funny I been doing press with him and whenever anyone brings that question up
5:42
it's just radio silence. So I'm going to be respectful of him
5:47
I have no gossip. No. But I'm dying to know. Me too
5:52
You're with us. Yeah, I'm with you on that. So now that obviously the film's all done and dusted
5:58
what's next for you? What's coming out next? what you're working on next
6:02
what can you tell us? What I can speak about I'm doing a play that I did
6:07
a couple of years ago on the West End and Broadway Prima Facey
6:12
Is this coming back? So we're going to tour it we're going to start in Dublin
6:16
and then take it around the UK and that's January next year
6:20
to like March Oh fantastic Funnily enough actually that's Amanda's favourite show Really
6:28
Yes In fact she's left this for you Have a watch of this
6:32
Listen to this. Oh, my gosh. Jodie Comer, I can't believe I've missed you
6:37
I'm absolutely devastated. Good luck with the film. But also, I took my daughter to see Prima Faisi
6:44
Prima Faisi? Prima Fassi? Anyway, we saw it in the West End
6:48
And you were phenomenal. And I'm really hoping that we get to meet
6:53
whilst we jointly cut the ribbon of the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool
6:58
because you're the only other blonde that I know that's in the public eye that supports Everton
7:04
We're there together, babes. I love that. There you go. It's very sweet
7:08
Sadly, she's no longer with us. A little message from Amanda there
7:13
Thank you so much for coming in. 28 Years Later comes out Friday, Jodie Comer
7:18
Jodie. Thank you. I'm shaggy
