Well, 2019 was when we last met. How are you both feeling? It's been mad, hasn't it

You have been on the go constantly. Yeah, but it's such a compliment that people want to talk to us

I feel like we've had a lot of goodbyes with the cast, because obviously we finished filming back in October and we said goodbye

and we had a screening last week. It's not very often in your life that you, you know

create a TV show that seems to mean this much to people so

it's a lovely thing to be ending it on our own terms and knowing

that this is the last ever time that we'll see these characters so it's the last ever time to talk about it

stop it, stop it, stop it are you going to be watching it with family

are you actually going to sit down and watch it we're going to watch it together are you on Christmas Day

yeah, I think it would be very strange to not watch it together

Because for us, it really is the end of like a 20-year thing

I would hate to watch it without Ruth. You've got to watch it together. You know, we only really make the show

because you want to try and make people happy and it brings some joy somehow

But I think with this one, because it is the last ever one, the last ever episode

in a sense, it's not like, oh, we need a response to be X or Y because we want to make more

in the nicest possible way. We're just very, very excited for people to see it on Christmas Day

and hopefully feel some sense of nostalgia and satisfaction. And you created characters that you can totally relate to

and I think that's been such a wonderful thing. I can relate to all of them

We had Rob Brydon on Heart Breakfast. I'm sorry to hear that. But it was a few months ago. We're over it now

But he was in and he said this. Is he joking? The thing is, I think, having read it

they handle Bryn's funeral really sensitively. They do it sensitively. He's joking, isn't he

You'll have to wait and see. I can tell you that you won see I think it okay to see It not that you see Bryn funeral the truth is that after the plane crash the whole sort of

Stop it! Stop right there! Was it 17 years? You filmed the first episode in London's Leicester Square, didn't you

A literal stone's throw from where we are right now. Yeah, so that must be mad every time you walk past or you come into this building

It's funny because that's the only time we ever filmed outside of South Wales, wasn't it

And yeah, so that day in Leicester Square, we didn't really know what the show was

It was the first time we were speaking as those characters, apart from in the read-through and the rehearsals

I'm expecting for people to proposition us. I wanted to ask, well, you've both gone off

and done such wonderful things and, you know, separately. But when you come back together or when you, you know, record this

does it feel like you're back home or, you know, does it feel comfortable

I love nothing more than being in a room with James. I get literally, even if we don't write

I just like being in the room with him because we do chat quite a lot before we write anything, don't we

It's quite a magical thing, really. And so I think for both of us

even in the time between sort of series three and the 2019 special where you know i'm i moved a long

way away there is a a bond and a an accord that i think everybody feels with their closest friends

those friendships where you just seem to seemingly pick up where you used to be and and uh this

experience actually of of making this last ever episode it's funny like over the last few months

or whatever people have asked us about favorite scenes or favorite things or moments and and the

truth is you know for me personally when i think about the show i don't i don't really think about

the times when we're filming it i don't really think about the finished product when it's on

tv even the the thing i really think about is this joy of shutting a door and getting in a room with

this person who I love more than you could ever imagine. And we sit with a laptop and a packet of post-it notes and a pen

And some chocolate buttons. And chocolate buttons. And we just sort of create this world

And then these characters arrive and they tell us what's happening. And really, that is the alchemy of the show

If you like it, if it feels like it's about love and friendship, it's because at the core of it is a loving friendship

that means more to me personally than even the show does. James, you're back home now

And we were talking earlier that you've got to be careful when you go round to James's

We're not quite sure if the oven is working. Yeah, you've got to be careful. That's the only problem. We just moved into a house which we searched for really for a very long time

And Ruth, actually, we were together yesterday and we roasted a chicken because the builder said

the builder said, are you having people here for Christmas? and we went yeah And he went yeah maybe just give the oven a few runs out And he did it tripped out it didn work Oh that is worrying We had to call the guy and I didn know where the fuse box was and all those things

but luckily we roasted a chicken, it was a success, yeah. Do you cook

Oh, I love cooking. Do you? I love it. I absolutely love it, yeah. Do you use anyone's books or you just go off, you know, do your own recipes

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie Oliver really is the reason that I got into

I love Jamie Oliver. Have you got one of his turkeys this year? No, what? Has he got his own brand of turkeys

it was a power struggle wasn't it between Nessa and Shazney that's why it didn't work out

I bumped into all manner of men and women and everything in between

so you know it's very likely that we would have our paths would have crossed

and I'm wondering, is there any singing in the finale this year? And if so, who will be singing

Well, Mary, that's a great question. I would say the first thing to say, which I think lots of people know, but maybe you don't

that this show, this final episode isn't set at Christmas. So we couldn't really end this one on a Christmas day

So there is music in it, but it's not what you would consider, I suppose, festive music

I think one of my favourite Christmas song moments in a Gavin and Stacey Christmas special was when

well, actually, when Mick was given the keyboard by Pam and then had to play

And if you look closely you see that Larry Lamb fingers are not really even touching Go back Go back and watch it You really feel you can really sense that Larry didn put a huge amount of work into working out

how to exactly play that. Was it like a Top of the Pops Christmas special in the

80s when no one was playing anything? Without question, yes. Right, we've got the final
