Being in the house and just those children being the Holy Grail and being everything
0:04
you'd take a knee almost and bow, it was such an honour, you know what I mean? But they were perfect days
0:10
Margot and Colin, welcome back to Heart's Evening Show. Are you well? Well, yeah, doing great, thanks. How are you
0:15
I'm in a really reflective mood, right? I've just seen your brilliant film
0:19
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and I went and sat in a coffee shop for about an hour
0:23
and stared out of a window and thought about a lot of moments in my life, Some good, some questionable
0:29
Margot, how are you hoping people feel after watching this? Is that something you even think about whilst you're making it
0:35
I hope, I mean, you know you're watching a great movie when you have to go sit in a coffee shop an hour afterwards and think
0:41
I mean, I love that. I love seeing a movie and walking out and just feeling like my reality's been altered slightly
0:47
And I do hope this movie does that for people. But yeah, I think it is one of those, the concept in itself lets you kind of reflect on things you've done in the past
0:55
Well I suppose it's easy to think about stuff you would have done differently in your past
1:00
and I'd love to know this answer from the both of you and what about those moments that you could relive where you wouldn't change a thing
1:06
that you thought about actually that was amazing how it happened I'd love to relive it but I wouldn't change anything
1:12
Do you have a moment like that Colin? Yeah I think some of the I mean I'm sure there's plenty of change as a dad
1:19
but I think some of the moments as a father of young boys there was just something
1:23
just so idyllic about that time and about the clarity of purpose
1:28
that I had as a man it was just all very clear what was needed and the kids when they were really small it was very clear what they wanted what they needed And just that kind of connection and that sense of wonder that I used to observe in them
1:42
They were kind of, when I think of perfect days in my life, they were perfect times
1:47
And nesting with young babies, like just being in the house. And just those children being the Holy Grail and being everything
1:54
And they wanted something that was clear what they wanted. And you just provided and you just served. You'd take a knee almost and bow
1:59
it was such an honor you know what i mean but they were they were perfect days those kind of days yeah
2:03
yeah yeah and margot making this film were you reminded of any of those like perfect moments in
2:08
your life like that yeah of course of course i mean mainly i was reminded i've said this before
2:14
but this movie didn't make me think of the past so much as it made me really appreciate the present
2:19
we had such an amazing time making the movie and it was so blissful every day i just i was just
2:27
just scared it was going to end. That was the only thing I was like, every day is so perfect. I don't want it to be over. And the shoot wasn't that long. And I knew our time was like coming
2:34
to an end and our time with our crew that we'd all fallen in love with and the story that we loved
2:39
And even just sitting in that Saturn every day, it was just, it was so fun. I felt very grateful
2:45
to be in that moment. Well, I also really loved the Saturn, in particular, the GPS, which is like
2:51
the ultimate matchmaker. I've never met anyone in real life who's been a successful matchmaker
2:56
Have I ever experienced any success? Maybe you've hooked up a mate with a phone number
3:02
or got somebody a coffee date. I don't know if it actually happens
3:06
No my mother married to an amazing man mother Rita and her husband Joel Michaels and they were introduced to each other by somebody who produced
3:17
two producers who were together, who were partners, lovers, besties, on a film I did years ago called Fright Night
3:23
When they met my mother, they said, is she into dating? My mom was in her 70s, early 70s
3:29
And we said, ah. And they said, well, we have someone that we think
3:32
would be amazing for your mother to meet. And we were like, yeah, that'd be great. we'll see if we can do it
3:36
it can't be like a one on one thing we could have a dinner party and make sure they're both at that dinner party
3:41
and they've now been married 11 years that was really impressive that was really impressive yeah
3:46
did you get an invite to the wedding? oh yeah yeah yeah it was in my back garden I better have
3:49
yeah yeah yeah had to let them in the house so they could get it done yeah I was in my back garden
3:54
it was amazing man it was very small and my kids were there and the ring bearers
3:58
and all that good stuff it was really really sweet I love that amazing
4:02
no experience have you been a successful matchmaker I'd say you're a great matchmaker. I feel like I'm a very good wing woman too
4:09
I've got one friend who I remember saying for years, I was like
4:13
I know the guy that you should be with and now they are together. Really? There you go
4:17
I didn't physically put them on the same date but I was in her ear for a couple of years being like I'm telling you
4:21
you're going after the wrong guys. You're like the good angel. Yeah, yeah, exactly
4:28
It does feel like you guys are both really passionate about this film. It feels like
4:32
it was made with a lot of love and you You really see that in the high school scene with the duet
4:37
You're both natural performers, but that was really, really impressive. Colin how long did it take to nail that Not that long I feel like you didn rehearse that much No we rehearsed a few times Yeah it was lovely man
4:54
because I got to, every now and then, doing this job, being an actor, you get to dip into
4:59
of course, the lives of others and you get to experience, in this case, it was a dance troupe
5:04
Everyone in that show, that high school musical production in the film
5:07
they're all professional dancers, of course, so I got to go and hang out with them and do the routine a couple of times
5:12
It took a bit of work. I was nerve-wracking, but ultimately it was loads of fun
5:16
I love that. So you were like a theatre kid for a couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. It was great fun
5:20
Yeah, you'd walk in, they'd all be stretching and bending their feet and doing the thing and they were very patient with me
5:25
They were very understanding. Really supportive, actually. That was one thing. Really supportive
5:29
all those dancers, of each other and of me seeing how uncomfortable I was initially
5:33
Oh, I love that. Just before I go, I'm speaking to one of your old mates
5:37
next week, Leonardo DiCaprio. Oh, I'm a little bit nervous. I'm a little bit nervous
5:41
I'm not going to lie. is there like is there like an icebreaker I could pass on to him
5:45
from you like I could show him this maybe it's like a like I don't know
5:49
a message a hello something you've always wanted to ask him I'm definitely not
5:54
going to use it as a way to like butter him up and get his good sign just tell him I say hi
5:57
and I and actually I've heard the movie is incredible I can't wait to see it
6:01
like incredible I'm dying to see it when are you going to get to see it again is it going to get to
6:05
see it when you talk to him are you going to get to see it on Monday god I'm jealous I really want to see it amazing yeah
6:10
I'll just say that just say it I love that. Guys, thank you so much
6:14
Thanks, Dev. Thanks, man. Great to see you
