The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hello, my name is Marjorie and I'm a Baptist minister in a city centre church in Sheffield
0:13
Our theme this week is all about waiting. Often we don't like waiting
0:18
I grew up in Dublin and the bus system was terrible. I have memories of waiting and waiting for the bus that would never come
0:26
Maybe it would come, maybe it wouldn't. There is a good waiting and there is very difficult waiting in life
0:34
We love the sense of anticipation in the run-up to Christmas or a birthday
0:37
and then it's not the same when it is all over. It is a good anticipation
0:43
Waiting for exam results or for the telephone to ring with medical results is very different
0:50
The difference being any sense of waiting where we do not know the outcome
0:54
or we fear the result fills us with fear and anxiety. What if? Most fear in life has its roots in the unknown and the waiting, the what ifs
1:05
In a world of ever-changing events and environments, the Bible shows us how to be faithful, not fearful
1:12
And instead of being downcast, how to lift our heads. In 1 Peter chapter 4 in the Bible, Peter, who was one of Jesus' closest friends
1:22
who witnessed the resurrection, tells us how we should wait this side of history
1:28
We are to keep close to God in prayer. We are to keep perspective
1:35
Let love be our goal and may we practice forgiveness. May we serve one another and show mercy as has been shown to us
1:44
And these truths remain true today
