Oxford and Cambridge, eat your hearts out. Honestly, I'm coming for them all
0:05
I've got the hang of this now, I think I've got the hang of this. We're on the beautiful River Avon as these amber heatwave warnings all across England today
0:15
Friday today meant to be being the cooler day in the week, but we're still going to hit around 28 degrees here in Stratford-upon-Avon
0:21
But it's more further south than you get to the likes of London that hit just under 32 yesterday
0:26
probably going to hit that figure again this weekend. And of course, lots of places around the country as well
0:33
going to be qualifying for heatwave status when they get three days in a row of those above average temperatures
0:40
We've been speaking to Nick Birch. He runs Avon Boating, his beautiful boat he's given us
0:46
to come and have a bit of a row on this afternoon. He spoke to us earlier on about how business is doing
0:52
in these beautiful summer months. The summer months are our peak period obviously
0:57
because that's when people come down to enjoy themselves We've been here for a long time, been hiring boats out since the Victorian period
1:03
We've still got a lot of the same old boats traditional boats, whether it's rowing boats, punts, canoes
1:09
and our modern electric boats you can probably see behind us So we hope we've got something for everyone to enjoy a little outing on the river
1:16
We give people tuition, we find out what they know You know, you can come, never having been on a boat before
1:22
we show people what to do give them some guidance help them out on the river it's not about how far
1:27
you go it's about enjoying yourself you don't have to be an expert oh gosh well i'm hoping we
1:34
don't have a bit of a titanic here because we're heading back towards the bridge and our poor
1:39
cameraman is trying to steer the boat as well uh and so we might be in a bit of a bit of a situation uh but just as i said that i was getting the hang of it here we are but I don think we gonna crash we seen some beautiful swans and ducklings on the
1:54
water as well as well as plenty of people doing some paddle boarding and
1:58
just lots of people enjoying the sunshine as well here in Trafford-upon-Avon with
2:02
those lovely high temperatures we are oh my goodness we are enjoying the sunshine
2:09
You are doing super. And yeah, I think we're okay. Oh my God
2:13
Oh my goodness. Oh, someone's honking you, Jack. Oh, that was so nice
2:17
There we go. Honestly, maybe I need some more training. Maybe I need some more training
2:26
I think you might do, Jack. I think you might need a tad more training, but you've done a delightful job
2:32
Perhaps it's the best place to be, though, in this harsh sunshine. Under the bridge, where you're not in that direct sunlight
2:40
Although it does look like you've worked your way free there, Jack. I've just got to ask, you're in Stratford, of course
2:45
There we go, see? It's the birthplace of Shakespeare. You're enjoying the sunshine
2:50
Have you been reading yourself any poetry? Oh, God, I was reading some Shakespeare earlier
2:58
and I'm going to try and... There was something about the sunshine being the honey
3:04
against the siege of the wrecking storms or something like that. Something like that
3:10
You'll have to come back to me. I did have it earlier. I did have it earlier. I think that little mishap
3:16
No, no worries at all about that. Why don't we just say, shall I compare thee to a summer's day
3:21
Now art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds doth shake the darling buds of May
3:26
and summer's lease hath all too short a breath. I can see Dan blushing there
3:33
I'll leave that to you. You've got that covered. OK, Jack Carson, thank you so much
