The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, my name is Andrew Latimer. I'm a Church of England minister at Grace Church in Greenwich
0:12
There's a physical principle which we teach to children, which is what goes up must come down
0:18
And there's a corresponding truth, which is what goes down must come up
0:23
certainly with tennis balls and pogo sticks. And it's also true in the natural world
0:28
So if we put a seed down, down, down into the ground, eventually you've got to wait a bit longer
0:34
It will come up like my basil plant. And Jesus said that what is true in the natural world with seeds is also true spiritually
0:44
He said this, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone
0:50
But if it dies, it will bear much fruit. Now, in the first instance, Jesus was teaching about his own death, which was actually only days away
0:58
And he was explaining to his disciples that what he could do is go on doing these extraordinary miracles feeding the hungry raising the dead healing the sick and so on
1:10
But ultimately, if he carried on like that, there would be nothing to show from his life
1:15
Ultimately, it all comes down to his death. But if he goes down into the ground, he will bear much fruit
1:23
And 2,000 years on, we know what he was talking about. billions of people impacted right across the world because of his sin-bearing death. And Jesus says
1:33
this principle which is true for him personally going down into the ground is also true for those
1:39
who want to follow him. We too must go down, down, down laying down our lives in service of others
1:45
and then we can be confident that like Jesus we will be lifted up and we will bear fruit in our
1:51
lives and here's the principle let's remember that what goes down will come up ultimately
