I'm joined by the man who conducted this poll
0:02
and it's David Pinless. He's the founder of thepensionervote.com. David, always an absolute pleasure to have your company
0:10
Of course, you were one of those who had the loudest voice and fought the hardest over the winter fuel allowance being cut
0:16
That's how thepensionervote.com was born. And you sent me this polling on pensioner safety
0:22
and I've got to say, I found it heartbreaking. Yes, well, you know, Martin
0:27
we have a government that hasn't done what it said it was going to do
0:31
smash the boats, sorry, stop the boats, smash the gangs. And it has done what it didn't tell us it would do
0:38
scrap the winter fuel payment, introduce inheritance tax for farmers, reduce disability benefits
0:44
So by any metric, they got in by deceit, but they're not doing what they should do
0:50
which is their primary objective should be to focus on the safety of Britain's people
0:55
And I was staggered when we conducted this poll, especially to discover that 95 of women over 50 in fact didn feel safe And you know I have changed my attitude over the past few years in that for example I wouldn intervene if I saw somebody behaving badly for example on a train
1:16
if they were playing live music, I wouldn't intervene. If I saw somebody throwing rubbish on the streets, I wouldn't intervene
1:21
because I'd be concerned they might pull a knife on me. So that demonstrates a change
1:28
I don't feel particularly safe. I'm a man. I don't feel safe in London, Manchester or Birmingham
1:33
I feel reasonably safe here in my village. But something has changed drastically
1:37
And so by any metric, this shows that something is profoundly wrong
1:42
And David Pellin says 94% of females over 50. I thought it was pensioners. It's actually over 50
1:49
In many senses, that makes it worse. 76% of overall voters, 61% of the men polled
1:58
and let's talk next about the attitudes towards migration because we hear oftentimes it's usually men
2:04
who have a more hard take as it were to immigration but your poll shows us that it women who are counterifying their opinions and perhaps that no surprise if they feel the most endangered Exactly Martin
2:17
So, unsurprisingly, women are now more against mass immigration than men, indeed, as the poll shows
2:24
And another thing that's been talked about, if I may introduce the subject, was eyesight tests for the over-70s
2:29
This relates to safety as well, because in my opinion, if I'm terribly negative, I would think the government here
2:37
is introducing diversionary tactics to make us think that they care about our safety
2:43
when clearly they are not addressing the real issues that they need to do with our safety
2:48
Yeah, in actual fact, the conversation around compulsory eyesight bans for the over-70s implies that they're a danger
2:56
to themselves and the public. And, in fact, the similar conversation wasn't talked about
3:01
by anybody with poor eyesight. It just seemed to be aimed at those over-70
3:06
Let's talk about the specific approach towards immigration, if we could. So this notion of net zero migration until very recently that would be considered quite a hard line position But you telling me now that the majority of over 50s and particularly women that their preferred option That right I think the Overton window as it called has shifted
3:26
And whereas maybe five or six years ago, this didn't enter the public forum at all in any way
3:32
more and more people feel quite safe now to talk about net zero migration
3:36
even mass remigration, because people can see very clearly on their streets
3:42
all the problems that we have. We have an epidemic of shoplifting. We have undocumented young men
3:48
some of whom, some of whom are criminals. And people just don't generally feel safe
3:53
So they associate it, rightly or wrongly, with immigration. And our infrastructure is crumbling
4:01
People want net migration to fall. Probably to below zero. David Pinless, the founder of thepensionofvote.com
