0:02
so here I am at Helsinki airport I'm
0:04
about to catch a plane to Kus which is
0:07
right up in the north of Finland to
0:09
start looking at what's known as
0:17
Wilderness and so let me tell you about
0:19
the must do activities and the things
0:21
that I did whilst here in the northern
0:24
part of Finland so sort of like the
0:25
upper northern half of Finland first of
0:27
all was Bear watching and at a place
0:30
called Karu casumo it they have a couple
0:33
of different bear watching spots the one
0:36
we went to was very close to the Russian
0:38
border and what they guarantee is a 99%
0:41
chance of seeing bears and we saw 10
0:44
Bears including a mother with two Cubs
0:47
only about 9 months old a massive big
0:49
250 kg uh adult male it was absolutely
0:52
remarkable the second amazing activity
0:54
was a guided hiking tour through the
0:57
orlano national park and what made it
0:59
very special is not the fact that it was
1:01
5 km through beautiful scenery but
1:04
actually the fact that we had huskys so
1:05
we were attached to huskys who uh we
1:08
been to belt around and they helped pull
1:09
us along and it was amazing what a
1:11
difference it made the huskys come from
1:12
a company called era Susi huskys and
1:15
what they do of course in Winter as they
1:16
do the big Husky tracks where they pull
1:18
along the slays ETC and in summer you
1:21
can go on this guide at hary tour it was
1:23
fantastic the next activity was really
1:25
great it was a good slow down Pace after
1:27
the hike and it was also through through
1:30
the oranka national park it was along
1:31
the river Olan Kaji and the company that
1:34
took us was called outdoor passion
1:36
Finland it was a beautiful relaxing
1:38
experience peacefully quiet it was
1:40
really quite remarkable I think probably
1:42
the biggest outdoor activity for me that
1:45
was the highlight was the white water
1:47
rafting it was also through through the
1:50
orlano national park it was with the
1:52
company called ruk safari we went
1:53
through a category 2 a category 3 and a
1:55
category four rapid and four is the
1:57
highest that you can go with uh you know
2:00
with a group of guests you know
2:01
inexperienced white water rafters it was
2:03
amazing experience absolutely absolutely
2:06
loved it the next great activity was
2:08
horse riding I was a little bit nervous
2:10
about horse riding not having ever done
2:11
horse riding before but this was a great
2:13
experience The Stables we went to in
2:15
kusimo and it's with the Nini riding
2:18
stables what's interesting about is it
2:20
was it started as a hobby and the man
2:22
who created The Stables does a lot of
2:24
therapeutic riding uh you know for
2:26
problem children children with special
2:27
needs and so the horses are really well
2:29
trained they were really calm and it was
2:31
the first time i' ever ridden horses and
2:32
it was a great and calming experience
2:34
actually another fantastic Outdoor
2:36
Experience was the guided mountain
2:38
biking tour and this was done by a hotel
2:41
called the iso coot hotel and safaris
2:44
and every summer they run these biking
2:46
trails and biking safaris it was really
2:48
great fun it's a really great experience
2:50
and they do short runs hard runs and it
2:58
fantastic and of course no trip to
3:01
Finland would be complete without going
3:02
to the sauna or SAA as they call it they
3:05
have a thing called the uh SAA tour
3:07
where you can go to six different sers
3:09
you can do all in a day over the course
3:10
of a couple of days and so we tried a
3:12
couple of saers one of the most famous
3:14
ones that we tried was a Lakeside sauna
3:16
which was called P filo so we went in
3:19
the sauna and then we went down and
3:21
plunged into this icy
3:25
lake and one of the things I discovered
3:27
is for the Finnish people the SAA is
3:29
such a fundamental part of the culture
3:31
and almost every house has one or every
3:33
apartment block has one it's a really
3:34
big and important social uh event
3:36
another big Revelation in Finland and
3:38
the real must do and a thing that we
3:40
really enjoyed was what's known as the
3:42
wild food movement the wild food
3:44
movement is really interesting because
3:46
it's not organic because organic
3:47
requires cultivation and farming and
3:50
wild food movement really means
3:52
collecting stuff from the wild so you
3:55
know fish from the streams uh berries
3:58
and the food was amazing so we did eat
4:00
things like reindeers Etc so the food is
4:02
very natural and one of the things I
4:04
discovered is The Finnish people
4:05
certainly up in the area that we were
4:06
traveling around in the north are very
4:08
very focused on healthy eating healthy
4:10
living healthy lifestyle another great
4:12
experience that we had was staying in
4:14
these beautiful Cottage type complexes
4:17
and they're all dotted around most of
4:19
them are owned by families and been in
4:21
for a generation or two and they're
4:23
beautiful wooden buildings like these
4:25
here that we stayed at uh run by uh you
4:27
know family members who often their
4:29
father had established it and really
4:31
really beautiful great thing about
4:32
coming in in summer is it's very quiet
4:34
and very peaceful cuz it's not the peak
4:36
season so if you're looking for
4:36
something a little bit unusual they're
4:38
not just going to be busy it's a great
4:39
place to come and as you can see lots of
4:42
things to do so obviously on all these
4:44
experiences that I've mentioned I've
4:45
refer to different companies and
4:46
organizations that uh I did these
4:48
various tools through so in the uh notes
4:51
to the show I will put links to all
4:52
those couple of things I'd really like
4:53
you to do is first of all leave a
4:55
comment let me know which of those
4:56
activities really appeal to you and why
4:58
I'd also really appreciate if you gave a
4:59
thumbs up and of course please subscribe
5:01
to the channel and then every week
5:03
you'll get uh some inspiration advice
5:05
and tips to help you make the most of
5:07
your precious vacation time and
