down to PTO William which is still in Chile um then we're going to Forkland to

South Georgia which I'm beside myself excited to revisit Elephant Island and and back so it's an 18 night just remind

year I think I booked in April next year and it's just because I plan my cruiser so far out in advance like I just booked

a couple into 2026 already so that's the earliest that I would go I'm also sort of going on Explorer 2 um so that when

that comes out and I'm doing like a Barcelona Canary Island so I'm looking forward to that next year I'm trying a

couple of the new lines so I'm also in February I'm doing the crystal trying Crystal they revamped Crystal because a

lot of people ask me about that trying like the new silver sea ship silver NOA and so on a lot of those are sort of repositioning cruises is one way of

making them more affordable Leslie W have you ever struck Visa or passport

complications combining crine excusions with s ports like Shanghai um the short answer LLY is no obviously heading to

China you need the Visa you need to get an advance you won't be able to board the ship anyway without a Visa um and I've had no problem so we for example

when we last to Shanghai which I guess was well before pandemic days we did self- exloring um but you know going

through passport control and with all your visas is that's all sorted so no issues at all I'll face that next year

actually because I'll be going to China on that um that Crystal one that I was talking about which I'm very excited

that's one of the reasons I chose it a repositioning as a reposition from Tokyo but they going VI Shanghai there's not that many cruises uh going to Shanghai

as they were pre- pandemic so looking forward to that Chris um been following

the Gat and lake levels uh which look like they're kind of rising uh so be good the uh the canal in December so

release today by the Panama Canal Authority not today this week which said

transits booked by cruise ships um a lot of those are obviously reposition cruises as they move between Alaska and

Gaton Lakes locks uh Chris one of the things if you're doing the transit um

and you do actually have an Excursion option I would actually recommend there's a very great Excursion into the

rainforest where you you go through the old Panama what it's called now like a town which used to when the US used to

run the whole Peno Canal there was a little town there which has now been converted more to local um you know

buildings and workshops and things but you go through there and then you do a great one of those um little carriages

that take you up over the top of the rainforest you can get to walk through the rainforest uh it's really cool so

that that's what I would uh that's what I would actually recommend um it's a really great one um you can also get

some excursions to go and see the new locks there a viewing plat area on the new locks I was looking at that um

because actually I have we've got the the group Cru in 26 are going to the

Panama Canal but I'm actually going through the Panama Canal again in April I'll talk about that another time um so

uh you know what what's happening and on that so um I got slight distracted this

about the the new lake so um the new locks so you can go and see the new locks but the reviews were very um bad

of the viewing center for the new locks so keep an eye on that um because that would be really inter because obviously

you then get to see the new locks as well uh Mike um asking the question as Cru seem to continually raise gratuities

do you believe 100% of the gruty goes to the intended Personnel is the house cut taken is there another Revenue stream so

Mike I get asked this quite often it's quite hard to get a straight answer from anybody but basically I do talk about

gratuities in last week's video which people don't understand really that gratuities have become the buffer uh for

Cruise Line uh salaries that they give the crew in most cases so they'll

normally tell the crew when they come board to the contracts you'll earn let's say a hundred but part of that 100 is

made up by the gratuiti so uh you know the gratuiti you're paying is basically

getting them the wage that they're expecting so it's not really a bonus if you like it's not on top of what they get that's the case on most cases um so

uh you know it may be that in the whole pot of things there there's a mix within that there but they don't report it as a

separate line item so we don't really know but it's really important to bear in mind that gratuity is increasingly

not a bonus for the crew it makes up the salary they're expecting to get that's really kind of important to understand

Steve how good to see you Steve um I think you were driving last week so we had no questions for you if I remember

correctly um on your last Antarctica trip they Dr do drove into the ice so

you could go exploring is that a p thing with a Chance your upcoming uh silver sea will do that assuming conditions and

kind of stronger so be interested to see whether um silver sea do that or not but it's not upon on thing it other lines

have done it and I've seen lots of pictures um and some of the promotional material that uh cbor issued for their

London and a few places they do have some rock sacks and things I I don't actually have one of their Rock sacks I have another rock sack which actually

Equity kind of setup uh private company um and what she said is when she can turn asamar into profit they will look

be great we're cruising on Seaborn Ovation next year how is Solace we're a little disappointed that they removed

Thomas Keller so I have not been back on Seaborn since they started rolling up Solace I've seen very mixed views around

it obviously uh what Seaborn have done for those who don't know is Thomas Keller which is kind of a celebrity chef

that they partner with they used to have a Thomas Keller restaurant and he would would create various menus AC dishes and

menus across their other restaurants uh on the ship uh they' sort of taken that out and replace it with their own brand

uh I guess maybe it's a cost-saving thing maybe it's a control thing I don't know but very mixed views of the moment

um the short answer to this is no um taking virgin v cruise from Miami I only

have a a backpack can I walk from downtown am to the Virgin Port no it's it's it is actually quite far uh also

you've got to go through tunnels and things and I don't know whether the pedestrians are allowed for those tunnels I would just get an Uber it's

not very you know an Uber from downtown Miami won't be that much you probably find this you know depending on the I

don't know if you're local but a lot of the hotels also will have shuttle buses and things as well um so I would check

a.m. when we were in Quebec which is the first time I've seen that normally they're more flexible on crew and I

always joke often when we got overnights in ports the next day the crew are all bit fuzzy because they've been it's the

one chance to go out and party and and do stuff on land overnight but generally speaking uh anytime on river cruise

ships when they're overnight um again it's the same but you normally have to have a code to get in but normally the

the the both the port security and the uh ship Security will be uh all the time

month before if I remember correctly you know a couple of weeks before but they will come out at the same time because

they'll also let people who haven't booked Haven uh to bid to go into the Haven as well so uh you know when

others we've never had ones where we've had to uh I've never been on a cruise I've been on 117 cruises so far and T

would I been on one had never will be on one we've had to actually then go to the uh the must

station uh the other one we were told St in your cab and wait for uh you know

information the other one which was quite interesting it's not quite what you're asking but when we

did the um I guess it was Queen Mary 2 when we were going from

Sydney up to Dubai um a couple weeks three or four week Cru I think it was four we Cru at that time there was a big

issue with Pirates so we had to do pirate drills where uh you know they

would the ship would go all dark and we had to sit in the hallway and they would showing you how they would accelerate the ship and escape and stuff some

drills around that that affected everybody but it was um it it wasn't a

real one as you say Jerry saying great to see your group Cruise well yes so it was really really good i' I'm just um

the edit of the sort of telling the story of the group Cruise just needs a bit of tweaking and stuff uh and then

think this is a question we're deciding on next River Cruise we're thinking France or Eastern Europe we're active in

our mid-60s we like not having an American Centric Cruise do you have a

recommendation if you don't want an American Centric cruise and you are feeling quite adventurous and you know

take a look at crossy Europe they are a French line they have I think they cover more ships than anybody they have Fleet

as biggest Viking but I think they cover more ships I've been on them a couple of times but you need to bear in mind you might be only you know if there's two of

you I'm guessing you might be only three or four of you English speakers the rest will be French obviously Europeans are

much better at having English as a second or third language than we are at having another language as our second language but they do have some very

interesting itineries uh they also although if you're booking from outside they do tend to offer a package with

excursions um but you could also do do more pick and mix excursions they do have more kind of adventurous excursions

um so so I would take a look at those I mean the Eastern Europe itinerary there's some I don't ofr the Europe do

but I've done emeralds uh from uh Budapest uh to Bucharest way um all the

way to Budapest it goes a little bit further and emerald are quite an more active thing but they are much more

us-centric the same with Avalon has more active excursions am waterways has more active excursions but they are very the

the the people on them will tend to be quite um more likely to be from the US

in reality um but did take a look across Europe and look at the tinies because uh you will

find them kind of interesting um I've done even a canal barge trip with them

where there was 15 people and I was the only English speaker uh there was most people spoke English there was one

couple that didn't speak English at all and that was fantastic um that was really great um let's have a look Paul

would strongly encourage the Hop On Hop off bus uh they go to all the sites I think they're all I can't if there was

and I pretty I think you'll probably find that you can book those through the cruise line but it's better to not book
