how to remove, unpublish, hide, or delete a page off of your WordPress website all the right ways
0:07
Hello everyone, welcome back to another video. In this video I'm going to be showing you how
0:11
you're going to be able to remove, unpublish, hide, or delete a page of your WordPress website
0:15
in the right ways, none of the wrong ways. Okay, so we're going to learn how to hide or remove or
0:21
completely remove a page of our website and the page that we're going to be removing for this
0:27
tutorial is going to be our, you know, account page. Okay, so this is just obviously one example
0:33
Now if I were to go in pages over here, you know, I have like a few pages. I'm going to go ahead and
0:39
remove an account page because it's my least used page. So I would like to remove this accounts page
0:44
Okay, and in this account page let's imagine the following scenario. Okay, you started with a new
0:49
WordPress theme and your account page came with a demo template and you imported this template and
0:55
have a lot of, you know, different pages of your website that you would not like to use or you would
1:00
like to at least hide from your menu or hide from your users and, you know, just do a lot of other
1:06
stuff. So to do this, first of all, we're going to start explaining a simple way to hide this page from
1:12
our menu. So hide this page from the site, okay, and to make this page hide itself before anything
1:18
please do make sure hit the like and subscribe button for this video and share this content with
1:23
a friend that, you know, may be in need of content like this because that truly helps me out a lot
1:30
So once we, you know, have a general idea and we've discussed about how we're going to work with that
1:37
you're going to come over here and once you come over here you can either delete a page by
1:42
clicking on trash but that will obviously not only archive a page but totally delete it and getting
1:48
it back is going to be a bit of a challenge. So we don't want to permanently delete it in my opinion
1:54
So what you can do is you can come to things like appearance, okay, I'm going to come to appearance
2:00
and once you go into appearance you can go into your menu section in appearance or a customized
2:06
section in appearance and once you go into your customized section obviously they're going to
2:14
give you options to delete different menus or, you know, display different locations for these menus
2:21
and it's a really fun and, you know, small little, you could say, branding or small little widget
2:30
a feature that you can actually see that you can add for yourself. So basically what you need to do
2:37
is, yeah, you need to actually add this kind of things to your design and once you do that it's
2:43
going to be really fun and really easy to work with it. Now to obviously start things off just go
2:48
over to menus, okay, and once you go over to menus you're going to choose the menus that you want to
2:54
add or delete. So you're going to do that and once you come down here, you know, there's the viewing of
2:58
this menu. So let's say you can delete it completely or you can hide it by unchecking these primary
3:05
or social navigations, okay. So I'm going to go ahead and uncheck them and obviously they are not
3:11
going to appear for us, you know, it's going to remove the primary menu and the menu navigation
3:15
system. Then moving on, you know, you can remove this for yourself as well by just clicking on
3:22
delete menu. This won't delete the page but it'll only delete the menu that you don't want in your
3:28
page, okay. So again, really easy, really simple stuff and again this only just removes it, okay
3:35
It does not delete the whole page or it only unpublishes it. So basically, you know, you get
3:42
the whole point. In a way, it does hide it but when it comes to a deletion, you know, deletion just
3:49
removes all of it essentially, okay. And once all of it is removed, obviously that takes us to a
3:56
little bit of a conundrum and obviously these are all the right ways of how you can do this
4:02
So it's going to be really simple to just update and, you know, quickly edit these things. So let's
4:08
say there's some type of page that I want to update or, you know, do different things to
4:14
So first of all, obviously there's the trash, okay, and I can directly add this to the trash or you can
4:19
go and edit and start updating or unpublishing different things from this page or, you know
4:25
actually hiding it other than just straight up deleting it because I'm totally against
4:30
deleting a whole page. So, you know, it says visibility public. You can change the visibility
4:36
from public to private. So what that will do is it will hide the page from the other users and
4:42
you can come to private and only visible to site admins and editors, okay. And then you can also
4:49
password protect it so only those with a password can view this post. So you can change it to these
4:54
things as well which is pretty incredible, right, because you're totally changing the whole, you
5:00
could say, output design of this because if it's private then only you and the other people in your
5:05
site can see this, you know, no one from the outside, no customers will be able to see this
5:10
basically. Then obviously you can switch this to a draft as well which will remove it from your page
5:16
okay. It won't delete it, it will only unpublish it and make it into a draft. You can't move it to
5:21
the trash or anything either. So really incredible, really easy, really simple stuff. Then you can
5:26
make revisions for yourself as well by going into revisions and everything should work from there
5:32
So pretty easy, pretty basic and pretty fun stuff to get your head around. Then moving on there's
5:38
the block section where you can get different blocks and it's really fun and really easy to
5:43
get your head around all of this. So basically that is how you can obviously unpublish pages
5:49
and hide pages from, you know, the people by just making them private. But then obviously then
5:55
comes the final resort, like if you don't want a page at all because obviously in the case a lot of
6:01
people delete their pages but they don't realize that they might need them at one point so they
6:06
just straight up delete them. So like let's say if I trash a page, like I've trashed this account page
6:11
let's say, you know, page is trashed I can undo this as of right now but if I go over here to
6:17
let's say media and I come back to pages, look at that, it's gone and I can't do nothing about it
6:23
You can't find it and trashed over here and you can't restore it but it's going to delete most of
6:28
the information about it. But this is also, you know, a relatively decent way because you've
6:33
removed this page and not permanently deleted it. It does remove most of the information about it
6:39
but it does keep its styling and stuff so you can bring it back to publish if you want to but to
6:43
permanently take it out of your WordPress because the more the things you add into your trash
6:48
the more the caching memory of your website is used and that just leads to, you know, slower
6:54
working and just, you know, a very choppy website to work with. So I don't really enjoy that so
7:01
that's why if I were to alternatively throw something into the trash I would just remove it
7:07
That's why I don't throw a lot of things into the trash. I mostly just unpublish them or make them
7:13
private. But yeah, that is how you're going to remove, unpublish, hide, or delete a page or a
7:18
post of your WordPress website in all the right ways. So I hope this tutorial was extremely helpful
