'Upwelling' turns Long Island ocean water a rare, tropical turquoise

A rare natural phenomenon known as upwelling has temporarily transformed the Atlantic Ocean off Long Island into a vibrant, Caribbean-like turquoise. Consistent high winds are pushing away warm surface water and bringing up nutrient-rich, cold water from the deep ocean, triggering a bloom of microscopic algae that tints the water.
