Bass fishing bait is used all over the country. You can get it in your yard, fishing store, retail store or online. Choosing the right bait is quite important. You need to stick with things that work in your area. Some baitfish don’t live in the cold. Others only live in the cold. However, there are some things that can be used anywhere in the world. Live bait fishing is one of the best ways to fish efficiently when you are time strapped. I believe it is a great way to start off if you want to try this whole fishing at work thing yourself.

I have culminated a lot of largemouth bass facts over my over 30 years of fishing. I didn't spend the whole time fishing for bass, but a lot of it was fishing for bass on a lake, pond and the potomac river. I have a decent viewpoint on what it takes to catch bass. Another important this is I do a lot of research. I have a degree in Technical Writing that I don't actually use anymore. I think a lot of people don't follow their majors after college and I am one of those people, but I am using it here. In this video I will show you pieces of the How To Catch More Bass PDF that I just finished creating. You can get this on the website if you scroll down just before the fold. How To Use Topographic Maps To Find Bass

Check out https://fishingatwork.com/topographic-maps-to-find-bass to learn more. I decided to do something different today and put myself on the screen while showing my computer screen. I wanted to better describe using topographic maps to decipher where certain fish may be located during the winter. This works for other seasons as well and each fish likes different things. Yellow perch actually prefer shallow waters with underwater grass growing. I found that area and was perplexed to find hungry fish there. Just because it's freezing and you can't take your gloves off to properly fish doesn't mean the fish aren't still biting. You can still have your fishing fun with your regular rod and reel or maybe you have to use an ice fishing kit because its too cold. Even better yet....maybe you don't even have a real winter where you live. I would love to come by and fish where you fish if that is true. Anyway! go out there and keep fishing!

Check out https://fishingatwork.com to learn more. When you are fishing on the top of the water you have to think about where the fish are. More importantly than that you have to make sure you present something that they will not think twice about eating. When it comes to situations like this you have to go to a tried and true favorite.....the frog lure. Frogs are naturally around lakes, rivers, streams and just about any water source. They come out at the same time bass become active and they hibernate at near the same time too. Bass will naturally know that they could pop up anywhere. When given an opportunity so easy they are more likely to strike. Fishing with a worm is an opportunity as well. However, worms generally only fall in the water when it is raining or just after. So if you are fishing in the rain....use a worm! If you are fishing near cover like lily pads....use frogs. If you are fishing in open water use buzzbaits, poppers, chatterbaits, etc.... Check out https://fishingatwork.com/best-plastic-worms-for-bass-fishing/ The best part about worms is the fact that bass love them because they are an easy meal. This means they will eat them without too much thinking. The next best thing is they are much cheaper than getting a high priced crankbait. When you lose one it's fine, but not so with everything else in your lure box. The best plastics for bass fishing is something that has been disputed for the longest time. I am not sure why people would get heated about it personally. Every situation is different and that means that your lures and skills will be tested as well. I personally rely on my skill in the area to learn about what to do. This is the same thing that pro fishermen do when they survey a new bass fishing location before the tournament. They want to know about the history, forage, insect types, topography, local information from information and any environmental situations that just happened or will happen. All information is up for grabs and every single bit of it can you help you when you absolutely have the catch the biggest fish on the lake. Berkley J Walker 100 Lure Review - Walking The Dog For Large...

Justin Lucas has made an incredible stickbait for walking the dog for striped bass. The color combination that I bought looks exactly like a blueback herring that run up the Charles River here in Boston, MA. At this time of year, fishermen line the shores to get there hands on Striped Bass that are finally within reach of those who don't have a boat or have time to use our boats. My YouTube and blog is all about helping you go fishing and getting on the boat more often is one of those solution. I should highlight that frustration as well. As far as the J-Walker goes it is a high quality bait that walks the dog perfectly. I specifically like the rolling action of the lure. The silver sparkles on the side reflect in the water when it rolls. The blue back will show as well. This gives Striped Bass the indication that this is the baitfish that they are looking for. It also shows that the bait is not paying attention to it and can become an easy meal. You can get this lure from many places and I suggest that you try your hand at one that mimics the baitfish in your area. You will have some topwater fun for sure!

Apparently, persistence pays off if you are trying out new lures. I decided not to go back to my beetle spinner (ned rig) and keep working this bait in hopes of a Striped Bass. I had this one because I just did a review of it that you can check in the previous video. However, I was met with a cool surprise! A largemouth bass jumped out of the water to attack this lure and verified that my truly do know how to Walk The Dog! If you have been thinking about using this lure or others like it you should give them a try. Where I am persistence pays off. However, with the limited time, we will give up the quantity and go for quality to do that. With a large lure like this one that is exactly what you will get.

Sebile Pivot Frog Lure Review - I Lose A Big Bass At The End...

I know there are a lot of frog lures out there on the market. Some look really sexy and others are pure crap. Sebile is a world renowned fishermen and his lures are definitely up to par. This is my first time using a frog with a single hook with a weight attached to the hook. I was a little skeptical, but could see where the design was going. Let me tell you that this frog lure just simply works! It works so well I hooked a big bass and then since it is smarter than me it got away. $7 dollars out of my pocket and now somewhere in the river. I will be buying another one and in several colors for sure. I will also be checking out Sebile's other lures that are even more famous. You should check out his line of frog lures at the very least. They are a bit on the high side, but if you change your fishing line like you are supposed too... you won't have my problems.

Booyah Pad Crasher Jr Lure Review - Another Bass Bite I Miss...

Today we reviewed the booyah pad crasher jr. This was another day where I missed a bass bite. I will say that the Sebile Pivot Frog did hook the fish, but my Berkley Trilene XT that was 3 years old failed. Remember to change your line at least annually. Now if you are looking for a frog to get some topwater action this is a likely candidate. I has nice weight on it to keep it right side up, but it does get hung on the lily pads and will go under them. This is something that frogs actually do so it may be a plus. I was able to make it flip on its back a couple of times when it was on the lily pads, but this doesn't matter for fish. As soon as it hits the water it goes right side up again. I also got a bite so that is definite plus! I believe this is not the best frog lure to use, but it is better than the KVD Sexy Frog lure in my opinion. The test results speak for themselves. Next up will be a lunkerhunt frog, which is one of the most lifelike things I have ever seen. I want to see if the fish think the same as well!

Lunkerhunt Pocket Frog - Lifelike Topwater Bass Fishing
1K views · Jul 19, 2022 fishingatwork.com
As you have probably observed frog fishing was a one way thinking fishing lure. It had the body shape with no real limbs. Just some tassles in the back that look like.....tassles. For some reason this fooled fish and still does today. So why make a lure look more life-like? Well lunkerhunt set out on that mission and they have definitely made it a reality. I believe this is the most like and functioning frog fishing lure I have seen. However, it has several flaws that could be easily fixed. Weighted hooks to previous rollover. That is the big one. I am really starting to understand why Patrick Sebile went with a single big hook for this Sebile Pivot Frog. Now that I lost it... I want it back! If you are thinking about getting one of these give it a try. It is not too expensive, but I would recommend adding weight to the hook and maybe not buying the pocket variety unless you have ultralight gear.

Rebel Classic Critters Are Proven Fish Catchers - Use The Cr...

I have spent a lot of time with two particular Rebel Classic Critters when I was a young lad. The Crickhopper and the Crawfish lure where favorites of mine. They caught me more fish in my local lake than any other lure I have ever used. They were closely followed by the Rapala Minnow and Yamamoto Grub. The best part about these are they are ultra-light lures. That means just about anything will bite them. Panfish, bass, trout, you name it. They are easy to use for young kids trying out there first non-weedless lure. The treble hooks bend easy. If you have over 8lb line you will find that the hooks bend before the line breaks. Fortunately, I got some action at the end of this video that will help showcase what is possible when you use micro lures that can fit in your pocket. This is obviously the best way to go fishing at work!

Whopper Plopper 90F - Blueback Herring Design for Striped Ba...

Check out https://fishingatwork.com The whopper plopper has been going around the fishing circles for a bit of time now. I have seen way too much action on it to ignore it. However, I know like any other topwater bait it has a time and place to be used. Today was not one of those days yet. However, the blueback herring run is coming within a month and I am ready with a whole assortment of blueback herring lures. The whopper plopper 90F is one of these great lures. I really like this lure better than all of the imitations now that I have tested most of them because of it's level of quality and weight. A lot of the imitations are light and feel like your holding a piece of glass that will break if you squeeze too hard. I think we all know what a cheaply made lure looks and feels right. Don't buy those unless you have to. Will they work... yes, but for some reason, I just don't feel right about it. With that in mind, I buy ALL THE THINGS! You don't really know until you know right! I also like the way the floatation is focused on the head of the lure. This makes the backend go down and keeps the hooks away from the propeller. This makes getting hung up near impossible. If you are going through structure then you have to take proper precautions. The weight of the lure allows you to make a long cast without adding any extra weight to the line. I even have steel leader with a swivel snap on mine and it performed perfectly. This makes it good for going after stripers that are near the shoreline if you are a surf fisherman.

I found a spot that I have used many times and gotten nothing. Today however, it was on fire. Part of me wonders why I moved... Smallmouth bass were hitting good on herring topwater lures. I have never seen that before. Now I know what was mocking me in the last video if you watch that. I thought it was a super dark bass, but the smallmouth around here are really dark for some reason. Look closely and you can see the smallmouth bass jumping all over the place for this stickbait!

I just couldn't let another day of the blueback herring run go to waste without catching a fish on this. Today was that day. I was fishing near a dam where the herring are located. I found a new spot that I usually don't fish and low and behold I found the smallmouth bass! They are in surprisingly shallow fast moving water. It is amazing what they are able to see in all that moving water. It is also good to know that a whopper plopper will still function correctly in these conditions as well.

Check out https://fishingatwork.com for more information on how you can get lures for cheap or free! Today I found a lure in a bundle I purchased online for a great deal. I was actually planning on trying a perch color version of the Sebile Flat Belly Walker. However, when I reached inside the box this came out. It then reminded me that I was told to use chrome or white stickbaits when the herring run is happening. I love topwater lures. This lure did not disappoint. One of the amazing things was the glide action that is made by the spherical bump just below the eyelet on the head. somehow it makes it walk the dog really easy. It is even better than the Sebile Flat Belly Walker! The weight of it is heavier as well, which is better for casting and it is very buoyant. I didn't know this brand very well, but it seems that it is not cheap either. This was a fantastic deal and I want to help you find deals like this as well!

Check out https://fishingatwork.com for free fishing gear & tips. Not the most productive day, but a new PB for largemouth bass on the Charles River for 2022. My biggest was last year at almost 4lbs at the Newton Community Rowing Club. Actually, that is a great place to fish when the herring run has just slowed down. The striped bass will back off and go back to the deep water near Boston and could be caught hanging around places like this just to ambush prey from great cover like the weeds next to the rowing center.

First Striped Bass of the 2022

Please check out https://fishingatwork.com to learn how you can go fishing more often. Also check out the website to get the opportunity to get free fishing gear! Finally caught my first striper of the year. This was actually a couple of weeks ago during the beginning of the blueback herring run. Unfortunately, I lost my favorite lure (Duo Dualis.... something that sounds like that). A "Walk The Dog" bait works quite well for striped bass as many fishermen know. However, I have seen a variety of tactics by fishermen in the area. Large 6 inch minnow shaped plastics with 1-2oz jig heads, sluggos, huge rapala minnows, huge worms, etc.... However, everybody said their thing worked. You can bet this is a tactic from the feeding frenzy that happens. If a seagull stuck his feet in the water too long they would get eaten as well. Once this run stops though, what do you think happens? Do all the herring go away? Do the striped bass go back to sea? Let me tell you what I have learned. 1. I was fishing in August when one of those electroshock boats from the State of Massachusetts went by to "test fish" and guess what I saw everywhere. Herring! The most bountiful fish in the river at that time was the herring. They were followed by yellow perch, bluegills, and pumpkinseed. I only saw a couple bass over a 300 yard stretch, which was sad. I saw 5+ carp. 2. What I didn't see were striped bass near the Watertown Dam during that test. However, I caught one right next to where the Muddy River connects to the Charles River near Fenway Park. It is a popular spot that many predator fish will congregate around. It's actually quite popular with carp fishermen. 3. This just tells me that most of the Striped bass do in fact go back out in into Boston Harbor. Plenty of herring are roaming around, but they aren't in schools. Apparently, it is easier to school baitfish when their are thousands of them, they are cornered or they are surrounded by predator fish and birds. So look for areas where predator fish can ambush or surrounded baitfish and you will be hooked up in no time!
