The season for cheer is hear, but not for regular fishing. At least where I am it is getting really cold and my body is not ready for it. I do however want to look for bass fishing gifts for myself. I actually am thinking of loading up my amazon wish list with a bunch of items for everybody.
You can always give yourself a gift if you feel you deserve it. You work hard and don’t have much time to fish. Of course you deserve it!
Go online and check out what can help you fill in the gaps in your fishing tackle box and other very necessary gear!

Hello this is Dwight Norris of Fishing at Work here in the Boston Common. There's
0:06
ducks, you know make way for duckling and all those little stories about the past
0:10
I know it's not a fishing area. There's no fish in this water but today I
0:17
wanted to talk about bass fishing gifts. When you're out here maybe somewhere
0:22
where you don't actually have great access to fishing maybe it's a little
0:26
too far away and all you can think about is what can I get some time to go out and go bass fishing
0:33
and who's going to get me these bass fishing gifts. So if you have a significant other or family
0:41
members or maybe you just want to give yourself some gifts here are a few things you should probably
0:46
think about having in your arsenal. One if you're doing local fishing like this you're going to want
0:52
a telescoping rod with a type of reel that has several ball bearings. Usually most of the telescopic
1:00
rod and reel combinations have a really crappy reel. It's like standard. It'll get a little gummed
1:06
up. You'll see it won't spin right like my Eagle Claw packet. It's getting a little not so smooth
1:11
anymore. Maybe I want to replace it and I can but they're both yellow. They match. Well I'll use it
1:17
until it doesn't work but you'll want something like that and I can suggest
1:21
an Abu Garcia Cardinal or the something that's relevant to that to that state
1:28
I would go with a light tackle reel and you can pick a telecomic rod but I would
1:34
stick with the main brands don't go with one of those Chinese made
1:37
manufacturers one with the names you can't recognize. Go with a good one. Geoclaw perfectly fine. Daiwa and they're pretty great. I think there's even the
1:46
Gene Lewis kind. I have to look into that. And after that you want to get your repertoire up with other items like you want good strong
1:55
fishing line. Now when you do life tackle you're probably going to want something in the 4 to 6 pound
2:00
range so you can throw those 1, uh, those 1 32nd or 1 16th ounce lures like the ones
2:11
made by Panther Martin. I just picked up some of those. I'll be doing a review of those soon
2:15
I used those down in Virginia and they were fantastic. There's other loads like that, like the spinner grub, i.e. a beetle grub that I have
2:22
Those are fantastic as well. You'll want some of those in your list. But specifically around here on rivers and lakes you want a specific set One you want a spinner bait You want a crank bait You want some soft plastics like worms or those sluggo kind of things and lizards and crayfish You
2:44
also want a set of jigs and after that you're really up to your own
2:51
interpretation. You can get some rattle traps, you can go specific, you can get
2:55
all rapula if you want to, you can get yum baits, you can get berkeley, there are
3:00
There are many types, many different types that you can get. I'm not really concerned with that
3:05
I have other videos that show exactly what types you should get and for what situations
3:09
When it's bright, go with a more white bait. A white spinnerbait, a chrome to white crankbait
3:16
And when it's dark, you want to go with a darker tone that matches maybe the water quality on here
3:20
Slightly green, so chartreuse. Chartreuse for your spinnerbait and chartreuse your grape bait works pretty well. For your worms it's pretty standard you want to stick with what is
3:33
natural black brown and like a pumpkin seed greenish kind of thing going on there like it's got slime
3:42
on it which is basically what a worm hangs out in those kind of things are great and when you go if
3:49
you're traveling you want to be kind of backpack fishing and for that there's a you can use your
3:54
own backpack you know that's cool and stuff it might rattle around a little bit but we had a
3:58
specific fishing backpack you can have places to hold your plano style or actual plano boxes
4:05
in there and i believe spider wire has a great one you can hold four boxes in it and at the top
4:10
of an insulated layer you can hold your your um or your cool items maybe your live worms
4:16
maybe your sandwich your drinks your chips all all your food and have that completely separated
4:21
It won't smell like fish, it won't smell like a Berkeley Power Bait stinking up the place. It may smell like the live bait if you have them in the same place
4:27
But it's all organized, it's all compact, it's all ready to go whenever you need it
4:32
You don't have to mess around, you don't have to throw stuff in and throw stuff out. You don't have to worry about things rattling around
4:36
Hey, why is your backpack making all these jingly sounds? You ready for Christmas or something
4:41
Hmm, maybe you are. Because you want to get some bass fishing gifts. And Christmas is usually the time when you get those
4:47
Now, if you're asking someone else to do it, you want to make an itemized list of what you need and the amounts and also which one's more important
4:56
I.e., you can't fish if you don't have a rod and reel. So, you're going to go for that one first
5:01
And you need the right fishing line if it doesn't already come with it. And if it does come with a fishing line it probably isn that great Like I found with the eagle claw packet You probably want to replace that line immediately it tangles up it not cool and I think it actually a higher test than I actually want on another note something
5:21
else you can look into is actually finding a place to get your live bait maybe you don't have a bait shop that's near you or maybe they don't have what
5:28
you want you'll have to go online Amazon eBay and other retailers actually sell
5:34
live date online you can get it it'll be cool it'll be alive just like you got it from around
5:39
the corner and sometimes it'll be for a cheaper price yes they're everybody's battling online
5:45
offline now i'll tell you i'll tell you that 90 of actual retail is still done offline i was like
5:54
oh amazon's taking over well they only grabbed 10 of the market but man they're trying to grab
5:58
that other 90 you think they're the richest he's the jeff bezos is the richest person in the world
6:03
now wait till he gets another 10% for ridiculous you might have to I don't know I don't know but
6:11
for you awesome cheap value what else do you what else what uh what else would you want as a fish
6:17
man get what you want I know it's a little early we're talking about Christmas we're talking about
6:21
getting bass fishing gifts for yourself but you should start thinking about these things because
6:26
when it turns cold you're gonna have to completely change your your style of fishing you're gonna
6:31
have to go to ice fishing which is completely different. You're digging holes with an auger
6:36
You have a little hot house. You might have some food in there. You might have some beer
6:39
some wine to hang out. It will probably not be during your fishing time because it takes too long
6:45
Not like you set out a house on a Sunday and then Monday at work you're like, hey
6:50
I hope my house is still there and nobody broke it down or broke into there and messed up my hole
6:54
Then you have your special ice fishing lures. I mean, you're actually using line bait most of the
6:59
time. Minnows, worms, and you have that little tiny rod with the reel and you have the prop
7:05
set and everything. It's a whole rig that you can use and it's pretty fantastic, but it's
7:10
completely different. And if you're into that and you're into that area where you can do
7:14
that readily, cool. If you're down south in Florida, keep fishing the way you were. Awesome
7:20
Just get stuff and use it year-round. Around here, for about a month, the actual river will freeze
7:26
with the waves too. The waves will be in the water. It's kind of weird
7:31
And the ocean does the same thing for the first, maybe a quarter mile out during the peak of winter
7:36
I think it's like January, February time. And it's just nasty. It's cold
7:40
You wish you were somewhere else. And it kind of stinks I like I wondering for this specific channel Fishing at Work what am I going to do Am I going to do something else with my fishing time
7:54
I want to make people have more time for fishing, but I know I can't be 100% for everybody
7:59
They have obligations. They have things they need to do. Their job doesn't let them get out
8:04
Or it's freaking cold. Or it's freezing. Or everything's frozen. and you got to do something about that
8:13
Become an ice fisherman. Move somewhere warmer. That's my plan. I wish I could do that
8:21
No, I should think about that. It would help me personally, and maybe you should think about it as well
8:27
Go somewhere warmer where you can fish more often. Another hack. Yes, move
8:34
Move to Florida. Move to a Caribbean island. move somewhere that's not frozen for a quarter or more of the year. So I know
8:46
this wasn't heavily on bass fishing but it's more on the weather and the environment and what's going on but when you are living in an environment like
8:52
this where it's gonna freeze and you can't go bass fishing you're gonna start thinking about other things. If you're a fly fisherman you'll start getting all
8:59
your stuff together you know start making those flies for the spring season getting all amped up. Oh man, I'm gonna make some killer bass flies, man. I got some new stuff. I got
9:07
some people I'm looking at and I'm trying to copy what they're doing and you're in your little
9:13
workshop working feverishly at the next best thing. Hello duck. But for me, maybe I will probably look
9:24
into ice fishing. I probably can only do it during the weekend, but if I can catch a bass, I'm gonna
9:29
to try it. And man, I'm gonna need a whole new set of clothes. I'm looking at like some cool
9:34
frog talk stuff. I have some filled in stream stuff, but it's not for freezing. It's really
9:38
for snowboarding. It's like an outer layer. It's waterproof, windproof, but it's not freeze proof
9:43
And there's some cool stuff out there. So I'll see if I can up my game and up my gear for fishing
9:50
and for not freezing and show you how it works or not and show you my journey from non-ice
9:58
to ice fishermen, and then later this spring, I'll show you my journey from non-fly fisherman
10:03
to fly fisherman, because I'm starting to think, I'm gonna really like that
10:07
I'm gonna really like it a lot. This is why I look at it, I'm like, I've been avoiding this for a long time
10:12
I should try all these things out. All these things catch bass
10:15
All these things catch fish. Why am I not doing it? Why are you not doing it
10:20
Why are you not fishing right now? Go out there and do it
