0:02
hey everyone welcome back to filtergrade
0:04
today we're taking a look at lightroom
0:06
mobile this tutorial will be recorded on
0:08
an android device but everything in this
0:10
tutorial will apply to iphones as well
0:13
now if you already know the desktop
0:15
version of lightroom then this mobile
0:16
version should come pretty naturally to
0:18
you but there are a few key differences
0:20
and when you first open the app you'll
0:22
need to import or take a photo
0:24
your device's photos are not
0:26
automatically picked up by the app
0:28
once you import a photo from your
0:30
gallery you'll find it in the all photos
0:33
open the folder and select a photo to
0:35
start the editing process now before you
0:37
do anything else you could just click on
0:39
auto this will adjust the image in a way
0:41
that lightroom thinks is best but you
0:43
probably won't be using it after all you
0:46
downloaded this app to have more power
0:47
over your editing so you should use it
0:49
but if you really need a quick
0:51
adjustment i guess it's there
0:53
so the first tab you'll want to start at
0:55
this tab includes exposure contrast
0:58
highlights and shadows and whites and
1:01
every image is going to be different but
1:03
i'll go through a quick guide on how to
1:04
use these tools exposure adjusts the
1:07
overall brightness at least right now
1:09
i'm happy with my exposure on my image
1:12
contrast is the relationship between the
1:14
lightest and the darkest point this
1:16
image has very low contrast by default
1:18
so i'm going to increase the contrast
1:21
highlights are the lightness of the
1:22
bright points in the image our sky is
1:24
kind of blown out in this picture so we
1:26
can adjust the highlights down a bit
1:29
overexposed parts of the image like this
1:31
can't have much detail saved from them
1:32
but bringing the highlights all the way
1:34
down does help get a small amount of
1:36
detail back from the fence around the
1:38
shadows controls the lightness of the
1:40
dark points in the image i'm going to
1:42
use this to increase the overall
1:43
contrast a bit more to darken the fence
1:45
and trees in the background
1:47
the whites and blacks controls adjust
1:49
what the whitest white and blackest
1:51
black are for this image i'm pretty
1:52
happy with the tone of the whites but
1:54
we'll turn down the blacks a little bit
1:55
to get a darker background
2:02
also in the light tab is curves
2:05
curves are a bit more of an advanced way
2:08
the left side of this chart covers the
2:10
darks and the right side covers the
2:11
lights the midtones will of course be in
2:14
this basically lets you adjust your
2:16
contrast to a more fine degree
2:18
most edits can benefit from what's
2:20
called an s-curve so we're going to show
2:22
how to create one tap to create a point
2:24
on each of the three middle
2:26
intersections on the grid now we should
2:28
have five dots on this line
2:30
now drag the mid-lows down and the
2:34
this is a basic s-curve but going too
2:36
far with curves can have drastic and
2:38
unwanted effects feel free to experiment
2:41
around on your image because this can
2:43
dramatically change what the picture
2:46
this can create massive color changes in
2:48
your image and give you a lot of control
2:50
and of course you can also adjust the
2:52
curves individually for red green and
2:54
blue for even more control
2:56
you can create a similar s-curve on each
2:58
of these three colors to bring out
3:00
better colors in your whole image
3:02
or change it up if you would like to
3:04
have one color stand out compared to the
3:09
speaking of color now we can move on to
3:11
basic coloring this includes temperature
3:14
and saturation we can set an automatic
3:16
white balance by using the eyedropper
3:18
tool to set our white point
3:19
this will adjust temperature and tint
3:21
automatically and give us a good
3:23
even though the wall on the left side in
3:25
this shot is not actually perfectly
3:26
white i'll set it as the white point and
3:28
we can see the tool makes the image a
3:30
little warmer to compensate
3:32
i actually like how this looks so i'll
3:34
keep it you can easily adjust the
3:35
temperature and tint manually from here
3:38
saturation and vibrance are similar
3:40
concepts but do have some differences
3:42
saturation boosts every color in an
3:44
image vibrance boost the least saturated
3:48
i'm going to reduce the saturation
3:50
slightly and then increase the vibrance
3:53
this will result in a vibrant green
3:55
image without blowing anything else out
3:57
if we only increase the saturation to
3:59
achieve our bright greens other colors
4:01
are going to pop out too much and we'll
4:02
get some distortion notice the ugly
4:04
yellows around the fence
4:06
they are much more pronounced when we
4:07
just increase the saturation and we
4:11
color mix is where the real power is
4:14
this lets you select a color range and
4:15
adjust only that color range
4:18
this lets you completely change an
4:19
entire color or change its saturation
4:22
for example in our image we mostly have
4:24
by selecting green and adjusting the hue
4:26
we can dramatically change our image by
4:28
seeing the plant and grass changing to
4:30
either more cyan or more yellow
4:32
one thing we can do here is change the
4:34
fence color we can do this by selecting
4:36
the orange range i like pushing it a
4:38
little bit more towards the reds so that
4:40
the darker and richer wood tone that
4:42
contrasts better against the green of
4:44
you can adjust every color range this
4:46
way to get your desired look
4:48
one other thing i want to do here is try
4:50
to adjust the bright hose in the
4:51
background that lives in the cyan range
4:54
and i can adjust the hue to the green
4:56
and bring the saturation way down so
4:58
that just kind of blends into the
4:59
background instead of standing out as an
5:01
unnecessary focal point
5:04
a great way to figure out what each of
5:05
these color ranges contains is to just
5:07
select it and drag the hue around to see
5:09
what you notice changing colors you can
5:11
always set it back to zero
5:15
the effects tab adjust a few other
5:18
texture will change how smooth the image
5:20
is if we bring it all the way down we
5:21
get a really soft and dreamy look if you
5:23
bring it all the way up some of the
5:25
foreground texture in our image pops a
5:26
bit more and the texture on the wall is
5:28
also a lot more pronounced
5:31
a little bit of additional texture
5:32
should serve our image well
5:34
clarity adjusts the sharpness of the
5:36
midtones in our image dropping the
5:38
clarity results in a lot of softness
5:40
while retaining some sharp edges in the
5:43
if we increase the clarity then the
5:44
image gets sharpened especially in the
5:46
background and the image overall seems
5:48
to get brighter in order to create the
5:50
necessary contrast to make the textures
5:53
dehaze is similar to contrast the
5:55
difference is that dehaze adjusts the
5:57
contrast in smaller regions rather than
6:01
this image doesn't really have any haze
6:02
to speak of so adjusting this results in
6:04
an overall brightening or darkening of
6:06
most of the image which i don't think we
6:09
vignette will create a black or white
6:10
halo around the edges of the image a
6:13
small vignette can draw focus in an
6:14
image and make it more dramatic
6:16
dragging to the left will create a black
6:18
one and dragging to the right will
6:21
once we create a vignette we'll unlock
6:23
all of its settings such as midpoint
6:24
feather and roundness midpoint adjusts
6:27
how far in the vignette is feather
6:29
adjusts how strong or weak the fade is
6:31
and roundness is how circular or square
6:34
the last setting on this tab is grain
6:37
this will add film grain to the image to
6:38
give it a more vintage look you can then
6:41
adjust the size and brightness of the
6:42
grain to customize it further
6:45
in the detail tab we can adjust
6:46
sharpening and noise reduction
6:48
increasing sharpness will increase the
6:50
edge contrast between items making the
6:52
image pop out in this way
6:54
noise reduction as it suggests can help
6:56
reduce any noise or grain in your image
6:59
the optics tab lets you remove chromatic
7:01
aberration if your image has any but
7:03
more than likely you won't really need
7:06
the geometry tab can help align an image
7:08
that isn't arranged correctly you can
7:10
distort it adjust various angles and
7:11
offset the image on the canvas
7:16
mobile also lets you use selective
7:18
editing in the selective tab you can add
7:20
an area either by painting it or
7:21
creating a shape mask
7:23
then you can use all of the editing
7:24
tools we just mentioned to edit only
7:26
that highlighted section this is one of
7:29
the most powerful tools in lightroom and
7:30
lets you edit things like faces or to
7:32
pop out the color of something specific
7:38
lastly let's look at the presets tab
7:40
these are preset filters that come
7:42
included with lightroom but you can also
7:44
add others from third parties we have a
7:46
video on how to import more presets and
7:48
as you can see i already have a set of
7:50
free presets from filtergrade installed
7:53
these presets will override your other
7:55
settings so they're more than just
7:57
filters they'll adjust all of your
7:58
lighting color and effect settings
8:02
great now your image is complete but
8:04
what do you do with it now it's
8:06
automatically backed up to the cloud and
8:07
you'll be able to continue editing your
8:09
project in lightroom desktop otherwise
8:11
if you'd like to export your photo click
8:13
on the share symbol to export to your
8:14
device and you can also share a link to
8:16
the project for collaboration once
8:18
you're done you can click on the back
8:20
button to return to the main menu
8:22
and that's our guide to lightroom mobile
8:24
the app makes it easy to do advanced
8:26
edits on your photos and the ability to
8:28
bring the project into lightroom desktop
