jump everyone Matt here from filter
0:06
grade and today I'm just gonna be going
0:08
over Fuji colors superior extra 400 film
0:11
specifically I used this for street
0:15
photography but I also use it in my
0:17
day-to-day for everything else too just
0:19
because it's a daylight film so you can
0:21
use it really an at each setting I
0:23
really like using this with flash too
0:25
because you get a nice crunchy feel so
0:28
we're gonna be going ahead just to look
0:29
at some of my photos to see some of the
0:31
benefits some of the cons and then also
0:34
just looking at what the differences are
0:37
when you're shooting landscapes versus
0:38
portraits versus you know in the street
0:41
and just kind of natural photos so let's
0:44
go ahead and take a look alright so
0:47
we're gonna start with a portrait this
0:50
is a portrait of my friend named to our
0:51
home I think this is a great
0:53
representation of the Fuji color
0:56
superior extra for our film because I
0:59
really like the contrast in it you can
1:01
really see his skin tones popping
1:03
against the red background the brick
1:06
really makes him just almost like a 3d
1:08
against it especially with the drop
1:11
shadow around his back left shoulder I
1:13
also really enjoyed just a red and the
1:16
bright vivid colors in this photo you
1:19
can see it in the same the same context
1:21
in the second photo and I just really
1:25
enjoy it because most people don't
1:27
associate this film is being in bright
1:29
you know vibrant colorful film stock
1:32
like act art or like porch or 400 but
1:36
when you use it in the right settings
1:38
and under certain under certain
1:41
circumstances it'll just work right for
1:42
you so I think this really worked out
1:44
well so let's go ahead and take a look
1:46
at the next photo so switching the
1:49
landscape you can already see a bit of a
1:51
different kind of foam tone in this sky
1:55
and in the water you can you can almost
1:57
see the texture of the film you get much
1:59
more of a grainy look in this then you
2:01
did in the portrait however you still
2:03
get that bright color and you also get
2:06
that contrast you can see the dark
2:07
shadows on the right side but then
2:09
that nice sunburst right in the middle
2:12
so I really like the latitude of this
2:15
film and when you shoot landscapes
2:17
they'll see it in the next photo as well
2:18
you can see just a lot more grain and a
2:22
lot more texture as opposed to when
2:25
you're shooting the portraits you get a
2:26
much different feel so make sure you
2:28
notice that and always use that as a
2:31
strategy and use it with intelligence
2:34
when you're shooting your portraits all
2:39
right so now you can see how the film
2:41
stock performed when you're shooting
2:43
portraits and when you're shooting
2:44
landscapes but the one question that I
2:47
always ask myself when I'm going to test
2:49
a new film is how is it going to perform
2:51
when I'm shooting street photos when I
2:53
don't have as much time to manually
2:57
change all the settings to perfectly
2:59
make the situation well-lit and
3:01
perfectly composed and yadda yadda yadda
3:04
so that's one of the main questions that
3:06
I look at when I'm trying a new film
3:08
stock and because this is a daylight
3:10
film and because it's 400 ISO you have a
3:13
lot of range and a lot of you know kind
3:16
of breathing room you can make a little
3:18
bit of mistakes with your exposure and
3:20
when you're a little bit off focus the
3:23
grain that is in the film will almost
3:25
provide more of a texture and if it's
3:27
done right you can use it to make it
3:29
look more mysterious or more emotional
3:32
depending on how you're shooting so when
3:35
you look at this first photo you can see
3:36
it's a little bit out of focus but the
3:38
grain actually adds to it I think I
3:40
think it makes it look more intense and
3:43
makes it look more dramatic so looking
3:47
at this third photo you can see actually
3:49
that the film stock whether you're
3:54
shooting with bright sunlight or whether
3:56
you're shooting in the clouds like this
3:58
was shot at you'll still get a nice
4:00
well-lit well exposed photo and because
4:04
of the high relatively higher so you
4:07
don't get something that's completely
4:09
out of focus even when you're shooting
4:11
from the hip such as this shot right
4:12
here so with that being said these are
4:16
all reasons why I really enjoy the film
4:19
the only downsides that I do find to the
4:22
film sometimes is that you'll get almost
4:24
too much grain which you can see in this
4:26
next photo here this is also due to a
4:30
bit of a miss exposure so I was a little
4:33
bit underexposed which is why it looks a
4:35
bit more grainy a bit more almost dusty
4:38
and the colors are off but I think that
4:41
this is the only downside to the film
4:44
really other than that I don't think
4:47
there's any really negatives I think if
4:50
you're not into shooting with kind of a
4:53
heavy grain then you might want to
4:55
choose portrait instead but if this is
4:57
something you're into testing or want to
5:00
just learn to see how you could use it
5:01
then I think it's definitely worth a
5:03
shot
5:05
alright thanks so much for watching we
