all right how's it going everybody it's
0:01
Matt here again from filter grade and
0:03
today we're gonna be going over five
0:04
quick tips for using the nikon efi -
0:07
especially when you get started so let's
0:10
just go ahead and jump into it the first
0:12
step is gonna be to get a UV filter you
0:16
can get these usually I always get mine
0:19
whenever I get a lens that either comes
0:22
with it or I just try and make a deal to
0:25
get it with it and essentially it just
0:27
helps with the UV light so that you're
0:29
not always over exposing the photos and
0:32
things like that it's super easy once
0:34
it's on the camera you don't have to do
0:35
anything with it but make sure it's
0:38
clean when you put it on the camera and
0:40
then it'll just help to make sure the
0:43
photos aren't overexposed all the time
0:45
which is really helpful especially when
0:47
you're first learning um there's like
0:49
meter system which is gonna be my second
0:51
tip so when you're looking inside the
0:54
camera right here you'll see along the
0:58
left side there's a light meter system
1:00
you can if you press down halfway on the
1:03
shutter button right here you'll see a
1:06
little lever flicker and depending on
1:09
what you're looking at it's gonna be
1:11
different because it's checking out what
1:13
light and so essentially you want to
1:16
match the red lever to whatever lever
1:19
the black or green lever those different
1:22
kind of colors but depending on your
1:24
camera but you want to match the red
1:26
lever with the black line so that it's
1:29
correctly exposed and to do that you'll
1:32
change your red lever by you know
1:35
changing the shutter speed if you change
1:38
your aperture and then try it again
1:39
that'll also change the lighting
1:42
obviously because it's changed how much
1:45
light is being led in so always try and
1:49
set your aperture test the light by
1:52
pressing the shutter halfway and then
1:54
adjust your settings as you need to and
1:56
then when you're ready go ahead and take
1:58
your photo unwind it okay so one thing I
2:01
forgot to mention about the light meter
2:04
system that
2:07
kind of kind of prevented me to even use
2:10
it when I first started out is the fact
2:12
that you need to have a battery in your
2:14
camera for it to work so when I
2:17
originally started I would just put the
2:19
camera on B mode which is just no
2:21
battery in my eyes I don't know the
2:23
actual turn port but whatever the
2:27
lighting is it'll kind of just read it
2:28
and do it automatically but if you want
2:33
your light meter system to work so that
2:34
you can take you know accurate fully
2:36
accurate photos just get a coin or use
2:40
your nail or key or something
2:41
unscrew this and then replace it with
2:44
one of these batteries there lr44
2:49
batteries you can get them on Amazon or
2:51
I got this at my camera store so a lot
2:55
of them will have them there too as well
2:57
but moving on the third tip is gonna be
3:00
to use a flash with your Nikon fp2 a lot
3:04
of times people stick to point and
3:06
shoots if they want to use a flash with
3:08
a film camera but in my opinion I think
3:11
if you add a flash onto a camera like a
3:14
Nikon fe2 or you know any of the Canon
3:18
series cameras you're gonna get higher
3:20
quality results just because of the
3:22
lenses us but even you know especially
3:24
with Leica cameras if you slap up if you
3:28
saw the flash on it it's it's always
3:30
gonna kind of make your photos more
3:32
contrasty and almost look like clear but
3:35
with a little bit of grain so kind of
3:37
like digital style with flash but with
3:40
that nice film grain and I think it's
3:41
always good I'll throw up some of my um
3:44
my my photos with flash with the Nikon
3:47
mp2 here just so you can get an example
3:50
of them

4:10
[Music]
4:14
okay so the next step when you're
4:16
getting started with using a Nikon FD -
4:18
it's going to be to shoot double
4:20
exposures to do this we have a tutorial
4:23
which I'll link in the description below
4:27
it's super simple all you have to do is
4:30
take your photo so click on the shoulder
4:33
once and while you're getting ready to
4:35
wind it hold down on this lever right
4:37
here you can see it right there hold
4:40
down on that and advanced and you can
4:44
see it's still on number two so if you
4:46
wanted it to be a double exposure you
4:48
shoot it now but if you want to take
4:50
multiple exposures meaning like three or
4:52
more you can take your photo hold it
4:55
whines I'm still on number three take a
4:59
photo hold it wine I'm still on number
5:02
three take a photo and so on and so
5:05
forth and so this is really beneficial
5:07
that you're trying to take kind of more
5:09
artistic photos or if you have like kind
5:13
of a ghostly photo reminder you know any
5:15
any fun experiments you want to do with
5:17
double double exposures it's always just
5:20
good to know how to do it so that when
5:22
you're ready you know how to do it so
5:24
moving forward we're gonna go to our
5:26
fifth topic our fifth tip and that is
5:29
going to be how to use the a and the B
5:32
on the shutter speed lever so when
5:36
you're looking at the camera you might
5:38
be wondering a little bit about what the
5:41
B the a and the M 250 mean I'm honestly
5:46
not too sure about the M 250 and I've
5:48
never used it before but for B I used
5:51
that when I don't have a battery like
5:53
Alice if others I was talking about
5:54
before
5:55
because it will kind of just take in
5:57
whatever light is there and make make as
6:01
fast of a photo as it can without the
6:03
battery because you still can use
6:05
the camera without the battery it's just
6:07
the light meter inside of the camera
6:09
won't work and if you press down on the
6:12
button in the middle the little silver
6:14
button you can spin out of feed and go
6:17
all the way to the other side which is a
6:19
and if you notice a is beyond 4000 which
6:25
is the highest shutter speed on this
6:27
camera so the only time I'll ever use it
6:31
is if I'm trying to shoot directly into
6:33
the sunlight or if it's really really
6:36
bright out maybe if there's snow or if
6:38
I'm on the beach or something like that
6:39
this will help with kind of capturing
6:42
that super super bright light and I
6:44
always just kind of keep this in mind
6:46
because when I'm looking at the light
6:48
meter inside my camera it might be
6:50
telling me somewhere around 4,000 2,000
6:53
or 4,000 but if you just bump it up to
6:55
the Eddy
6:56
it'll kind of compensate and get a
6:57
better exposure so that's super helpful
7:00
so those are my five quick tips if you
7:03
have any questions feel free to leave a
7:05
comment below and let me know what you
7:07
think of the nikon fe - so anyways have
7:11
a good one peace out
