Malamute is a special breed of dog. Friendly, energetic, affectionate creatures with the appearance of a domesticated wolf. They are popular all over the world and resemble large teddy bears that you just want to stroke and cuddle. But this is not a toy, but a large dog that requires certain conditions of detention, and before deciding to purchase a puppy, you need to familiarize yourself with all the advantages and disadvantages of this breed, character traits, and care.
The Alaskan Malamute is an ancient native breed of sled dog. Malamutes owe their name to the Eskimo tribe of the same name. These dogs perfectly coped with the transportation of various cargoes in the harsh climatic conditions of the North.
These are large, mobile, and very hardy animals, they have strong physiques and well-developed muscles. The average weight of an adult is between 32 and 43 kg, males are usually larger and heavier than females. The height at the withers reaches 66 cm.
The breed is characterized by a large broad head, straight erect ears, and dark brown or yellow eyes. The color is mostly wolf, but there may be dogs with coat colors from black to pure white and even reddish. Dense undercoats and thick, not-too-long hair allow animals not to freeze in cold climates. Malamutes practically do not bark, but they like to “talk” and whine hoarsely.
Life expectancy averages 10-12 years.
