The boss is back
0:02
President Donald Trump or former President Donald Trump, I should say, is coming back
0:07
to Facebook and Instagram. He's already been invited back to Twitter. He can go there at any time he wants
0:13
And we have information that he's planning to do just that. Folks, I am Carmine Sabia and this is Explain America
0:19
Before we get started, please make sure you hit the like, the subscribe, the share and
0:25
all those other buttons and leave a comment. And also please make sure you follow us at Explain America on Facebook
0:32
It's really super important to us when you do that. It really helps the channel grow
0:36
So Facebook, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said that the Trumpster is back
0:42
He's back in a few weeks on Facebook and Instagram. Why is it not immediate
0:46
Here's where the caveat comes in, and this is important. What Meta said, I keep calling him Facebook, but Meta is the parent company now
0:54
What Meta said is they have to build an infrastructure that will allow them to restrict Trump's accounts
1:03
from either running ads or from saying certain things if he should violate Facebook policies
1:09
in the future. And what Nick Clegg said to Meta is if he now posts further violating content, that
1:16
content will be removed, of course, and he could be suspended for between one month and
1:20
two years depending on the severity of the violation. So he pointed out, you know, oblique references to certain kinds of content, you know, that
1:34
if it doesn't violate their community standards, they would kind of look to restrict the distribution
1:39
of such content or restrict his ability to advertise. And that's for certain conspiracy theories that are way out there that even we think
1:46
are way out there that I don't anticipate him doing. I'm not even going to mention them here because they're not worth mentioning
1:54
They're weird, crazy, fringe conspiracy stuff that that can be harmful and that can lead
2:00
to people getting hurt. So it is important that that stuff is restricted. I don't think Trump's going to run into that issue
2:05
But the major thing is in a 2024 presidential campaign, Trump's probably going to spend
2:10
a lot of money on Facebook ads. In fact, that was the bulk of his advertising for the previous election
2:17
You know, when he won in 2016, it was mostly social media marketing, a dredge of Facebook
2:22
ads in 2016 and 2020. So, you know, they they see they seem they could they appear to be in the position to
2:30
make a lot of money from him should he going to continue to advertise
2:34
And there's no reason to believe he would not on their platform
2:38
Facebook made it was in it was in a very tough position after January 6th
2:42
And I think a lot of us sometimes don't recognize the position they were in. But it was a very tough position with the weight of the federal government bearing down
2:51
on them. They're in a very tough position now because he's a presidential candidate and you have
2:56
you know, fairness laws and letting, you know, his opponent on Facebook and not letting him
3:01
on Facebook. That could be a legal sticky ground. So there's a lot of things to consider here for MEDA
3:07
And I think they're doing the right thing right now. And debate can be had about whether they did the right thing the first time or not
3:13
But I will say that none of us are in their shoes. And until you're in somebody's shoes, having to make those big decisions, you know, it's
3:21
a lonely place and I don't envy them for that. I really do think Facebook does try really hard to be fair
3:28
I mean, you're probably watching this on Facebook right now. I think they try really hard to be fair and they don't have to give us a platform, but
3:34
they do. So, you know, you have to consider all that. So again, like we say, as always, please remember to like, comment, share and subscribe
3:44
Let's celebrate that Trump is back. Let's see what happens from here
3:48
And you know, as always, we love you guys. God bless you
3:52
Take care, everybody
