Oct 29, 2024
Rich Reynolds joins Kal on BayRadio LIVE every Tuesday from 16:00 (CET)
🇺🇸 Meet Rich, our US correspondent. A Long Island boy now living in Valencia, Spain.
This week we were joined live by the group Democrats Abroad, who had plenty to say on their candidate in the upcoming US Elections...and the competition!
Also on the agenda:
• Three dead and millions without power as Tropical Storm Beryl hits Texas
• Persistent heat wave in the U.S. expected to shatter new records as it bakes West and swelters in East
• Boeing agrees to plead guilty and pay a nearly quarter-billion dollar fine
• Alec Baldwin goes on trial this week, nearly 3 years after fatal 'Rust' shooting
• Biden tells critics ´challenge me at the convention´ after warning Democrats that talk of replacing him helps Trump and tells Hill Democrats he is staying in the race
• Biden’s in trouble. That puts more scrutiny on Harris too
• Republicans call Trump’s move to distance himself from Project 2025 ‘preposterous’
• Why some Republican-led states are limiting who can vote in party primaries

Bay radio International and it's Tuesday
0:02
which means our correspondent from the
0:04
US of has joined us in the studio
0:07
afternoon Rich how's it going yabba do
0:09
here we go actionpack today it is indeed
0:12
and we'll have a couple of guests on
0:14
after uh the break to talk about the
0:18
latest situation with Joe Biden and the
0:21
Democrats before that a couple of other
0:22
stories to look at and making all of the
0:26
headlines outside of the Biden situation
0:28
is the Heatwave
0:30
and the subsequent storms and the
0:32
Fallout from the weather in the United
0:35
States at the moment yeah things are
0:36
really bad back there um it's either
0:40
heat or too much rain depending on where
0:43
you are and that the heat is sort of
0:45
the whole country starting from
0:47
Seattle all the way down to the bottom
0:49
all the way back up the east coast and
0:51
there are you know when you when you
0:54
talk about heat it's almost like Sahara
0:56
heat it's uh crazy crazy uh Northern
1:00
California 43°
1:02
Centigrade um the city of reading topped
1:05
out at 48° Centigrade which is 119 and
1:09
of course our friends in Death Valley
1:12
that's always the hottest spot in the
1:13
country 53° Centigrade 128 degrees
1:16
that's that's hot I've been I've been in
1:19
that that's insane with body armor as
1:22
well it's terrible oh my God so it is 36
1:25
million people around 10% of the
1:27
population are under that excessive Heat
1:29
heat warning um the last time and it's
1:32
not that long ago that we were talking
1:34
about heat issues in the United States
1:36
we were hearing that basically air
1:37
conditioning just um breaks down and
1:39
people are left to you know especially
1:42
in a place like Texas Texas has their
1:43
own power grid as opposed to other
1:46
countries and they you know where they
1:48
everybody deals with an American grid
1:50
Texas has their own so they frequently
1:52
have problems and hopefully they've got
1:53
that sorted out but uh right now um you
1:58
know that we're in hurricane season as
2:00
well or there in hurricane season and
2:02
storm Barrel hit Texas Barrel It just
2:04
knocked things out but only three people
2:05
died now that sounds terrible and I feel
2:08
badly of course for those three families
2:10
of those three people but uh the fact of
2:12
the matter is that you know it people
2:15
act crazy when when streets flood and
2:17
that sort of thing they go driving in
2:18
the streets and they go surfing and they
2:20
go swimming in the in the Gulf of Mexico
2:23
and it's it's and that's how people die
2:25
but this time only only three people um
2:28
so that is a little little bit of good
2:30
news yeah but yeah from one extreme to
2:33
another really the Rick business story
2:35
this week seems to be Boeing agreeing to
2:37
plead guilty and pay nearly a quarter of
2:39
a billion dollar fine are the families
2:42
though who of people who have died in
2:44
those two 737 maxjet crashes are not
2:48
happy about the situation no but they
2:51
but they did they're they are getting
2:52
their pound of Flesh so to speak the uh
2:55
this whole swing is going to cost Boeing
2:57
almost a billion dollars between uh um
3:00
what they're what they're paying the
3:02
families and everybody remembers that
3:05
this this event uh was two consecutive
3:08
years where uh a plane went down in Asia
3:11
and uh approximately U uh six or 700
3:16
people were were killed and this is uh
3:19
compensation for those deaths and then
3:22
uh that was that was uh $243 million and
3:26
this new amount is$ 243 3.6 million is
3:32
because Boeing lied well it didn't
3:35
didn't make the safety changes it said
3:36
it was going to do after they didn't
3:38
make any changes at all they said yeah
3:39
we'll take care of it and they didn't
3:40
and right now Boeing is a is a it used
3:43
to be a five-star gold company and now
3:46
it's in trouble and I you know you can't
3:48
do anything when you get to the airport
3:50
you're going to get on a Boeing plane or
3:52
you're not going to get on a Boeing
3:53
plane and you just it's terrible that we
3:56
have to pray that we don't get a Boeing
3:58
plane and that we're we're we're uh you
4:00
know crossing our fingers that we get to
4:02
our destination safely but um yeah there
4:06
was uh uh they have to pay 455 million
4:09
for a compliance program so it's
4:11
basically uh something that they should
4:13
have already had correct absolutely
4:16
correct and so with the 243 time 2 uh
4:20
and the 455 they're in the they're in
4:22
the bucket for a million a bill excuse
4:24
me a billion dollars so that's uh that's
4:26
real that's that's more than a sandwich
4:28
that's that's real money well other
4:30
headlines I've seen uh too big to fail
4:32
because that's bringing on basically
4:34
putting the company out of business and
4:36
and and why can't you get get your act
4:38
together I mean you're creating you're
4:40
creating all these planes and why isn't
4:43
safety your number one priority that's
4:44
that's the big question every everybody
4:46
should should answer and I'm sure a lot
4:48
of people saw that that they had a wheel
4:52
fall off one of their planes in in Los
4:54
Angeles and it didn't kill anybody and
4:56
thank God for that I mean La is we know
4:59
is very very congested City but the
5:01
problem is uh on that plane the the the
5:04
plane is 30 years old and so at a
5:07
certain point you're you're beyond uh uh
5:10
you know the the responsibility of
5:11
Boeing I mean United Airlines has got to
5:14
maintain those planes so it you kind of
5:17
Wonder you know what's what's what's
5:19
going on I don't know you you have no
5:21
idea that's rhetorical I'm not unless
5:23
you have an answer in this Century you
5:25
would think we'd be on top of this stuff
5:26
you know I mean the next thing we're
5:28
going to see is people on Mars
5:30
you would think but not on a Boeing
5:31
plane we not no no definitely not
5:33
although they do have a space program
5:35
Rich rolds our us correspondent with us
5:38
this afternoon talking all things us of
5:42
a and also joining us now Andy and
5:45
Andrew rather and Kathy from Democrats
5:47
abroad uh to talk about what's been
5:50
going on Joe Biden of course on the
5:52
agenda the 81y old president told his
5:55
party it's time to come together after
5:57
that shaky debate performance against
5:59
Donald Trump last month led to concerns
6:02
about his capability to run let's let's
6:04
see if we can squore this out the
6:06
Democratic party of of Spain and and
6:08
democratics abroad in general support
6:11
the Democratic National Committee the
6:13
Democratic National Committee is working
6:15
with Joe Biden uh for the convention in
6:18
Chicago in which which the presumptive
6:20
ninee is is Joe Biden in his number two
6:24
is going to be camel Harris we're out to
6:27
ensure that Democrats abroad
6:30
are eligible to register to vote
6:33
register to vote make sure that their
6:35
votes are counted in the states that
6:37
they vote in because as you know we're
6:39
50 States and what we want to do is
6:41
ensure that people understand that the
6:43
platform to which the Democratic party
6:46
has aligned itself to is a very
6:48
Democratic agenda Visa a convicted
6:50
criminal that's going to be running for
6:52
office at the other end which is on the
6:54
Republican side so I think it's going to
6:55
be a clear division between a convicted
6:58
criminal running for office or a person
7:00
who is a devout Catholic with a number
7:03
two that has to be very articulate in
7:05
relative terms to the women's issues and
7:08
other Democratic issues in order to win
7:10
the election in 2024 one of the big
7:13
things uh that people are talking about
7:15
and one of the big things that's in the
7:16
news is uh project 2025 and I was
7:20
wondering if you uh either of you have
7:22
uh an opinion or both of you on on
7:25
Project 2025 and that radical um uh
7:29
proposal being put forth by the
7:31
Republicans one of the things the
7:33
project project 2025 is going to do is
7:35
do the following it's going to
7:37
politicize further deeper in Beyond 1865
7:43
1870 years the Civil Service when you
7:47
politicize a civil service you have done
7:49
away with the ability to fairly
7:52
distribute programs and services across
7:55
the United States and if project 2025
7:58
comes into play with a convicted
8:00
criminal there is no question that the
8:02
United States government is going to
8:04
turn into nothing more than another
8:06
business to which he's going to corrupt
8:08
and that simply is the statement that
8:10
needs to be dat about 2025 yes but but
8:12
Donald Trump says he's never heard of
8:14
project 2025 yeah I heard that yesterday
8:17
too and I and and and that in a cup of
8:20
coffee with the holes in it in the cup
8:22
of coffee I I'll buy it you know the big
8:24
question is how do you get people off of
8:27
trump people who know he's alive
8:30
they know he he is prone to exaggerate
8:33
and yet they still like the guy there's
8:34
something
8:36
intrinsically um likable about them to
8:39
to these uh people who follow him and
8:41
who vote for him there's an enthusiasm
8:43
and how do you get over that how do you
8:45
generate the same sort of enthusiasm for
8:48
our current president that the
8:50
Republicans have for their guy who as
8:52
you say is a convicted felon but people
8:55
don't seem to care about that people
8:56
just say they see he's very charismatic
8:59
and and and can't seem to get past that
9:02
Richard I know what you're saying but
9:04
remember that the the the Democratic
9:06
party is a is a is a an aura of people
9:10
that have different opinions and we'll
9:11
come together when the time comes the
9:14
Republican party which is now the Maga
9:16
party has completely shifted from a a a
9:20
party that actually work towards common
9:23
agenda items and competed with the
9:25
Democratic party in relative terms to
9:28
what was right what was left and
9:29
reference to the country we're now
9:31
seeing as as Kathy said a dictator
9:34
pretty much being followed by a bunch of
9:36
people because they want to see some
9:38
significant change in their life the
9:41
reality is that change will never come
9:43
for them their children are going to
9:45
suffer and if we don't stay in a
9:47
democratic pattern then we all lose and
9:50
we all lose and we can't afford to do
9:52
that thank you very much indeed for your
9:53
time today Kathy Tois and Andrew
9:55
Anderson from Democrats abroad and uh in
9:57
a week or so it's time we'll hear from
9:59
the Republican side of the house why are
10:02
some Republican lad States limiting who
10:04
can vote in party primaries go on well
10:08
what's happening is uh in in the US you
10:12
got 50 states and each one has a
10:14
slightly different uh way that you can
10:17
vote in in a primary some have open
10:19
primaries meaning you can vote for
10:21
anybody um there there could be 20
10:23
candidates from Republican and Democrat
10:26
and you can vote for anybody you want
10:28
some of them are closed primary mares
10:29
where if you're registered as a
10:32
republican you can only vote for
10:33
republicans and what the Republican
10:35
party is trying to do is close that up
10:38
so a lot of these Governors have said uh
10:41
what we're going to do is if you're
10:42
Republican you can only vote for
10:44
Republicans they're trying to call the
10:46
herd a little bit trying to trying to
10:49
you know get things down what are they
10:51
worried about I I think they're worried
10:53
well you know what's happened in the
10:55
past is that is that uh Republicans have
10:58
voted for Democrats
10:59
just to get certain people off the
11:01
ballot so they voted for for instance if
11:03
if if the Democratic party has a weak
11:06
person maybe he's a uh he's actually a
11:09
car salesman and he has no right being
11:11
on the ballot what they'll do is they'll
11:13
say okay everybody vote for the car
11:14
salesman and that way this guy's going
11:16
to get all the votes and he's going to
11:17
run against us and he doesn't stand a
11:19
chance so it's a little simplistic but
11:21
that's kind of the way things happen and
11:24
uh it's it's just it's a strategic move
11:26
but a lot of times that it's a move that
11:28
does not pay off um in this particular
11:31
case they're trying to keep they're
11:33
trying to keep their party pure to use a
11:35
better to use a term I've heard that
11:37
somewhere before yeah that's that's not
11:39
a good term that's a bit concerning we
11:40
don't we don't like that term right I'm
11:42
losing all my connections here for some
11:44
reason but not to worry I've still got
11:45
some of my notes what's been going on
11:47
with chrisye Noom apparently her social
11:49
media is disappearing chrisy Noom is
11:52
sort of Disappearing and and this is the
11:54
lady that
11:57
um her dog basically
11:59
yes so so things have not gone well for
12:02
christe you know a lot of uh a lot of
12:06
the the the good money said that she was
12:08
going to be the vice presidential
12:10
candidate and then she stupidly
12:12
published a book where she said uh I
12:14
killed my dog and then I killed a goat
12:16
and uh Joe Biden's dog should have been
12:19
put down and he should Commander is the
12:21
name of his dog should have been shot
12:23
because he attacked a couple of uh
12:25
Secret Service agents um and so that was
12:28
pretty much the end of Christie and now
12:30
all of her social media accounts have
12:32
gone down so lot history so so Cal I
12:35
know you like to contact Christie
12:37
whenever you can whenever you have when
12:39
you have whenever you have nothing going
12:41
on he said you know let's see what
12:44
chrisye Nome is doing and now you can't
12:45
do it she's not around so we not sure if
12:48
that's an ex Facebook and Instagram
12:51
thing or whether it's a her people just
12:53
taking care of the situation I think I
12:55
guess it's more that right that's right
12:57
I I I would guess that her people have
12:59
taken taken it down because she was
13:01
she's been complaining that she's been
13:03
abused and uh and people have not been
13:06
very nice to her and she's kind of
13:07
brought it on herself but we know people
13:09
can be kind of cruel and absolutely and
13:12
um and I forgotten to send her a text
13:15
today but I'll I'll do it when I get
13:16
home I'm sure sure she looking forward
13:19
to hearing from you I'll send her
13:21
something nice here's what we think of
13:22
you over in Spain okay what about the
13:25
Republican National Convention I
13:27
neglected to mention that it's coming to
13:28
milwa walking
13:29
when where and and and will the big man
13:31
be making an appearance well the big man
13:33
is going to make an appearance because
13:35
uh what they do is on the last day of
13:37
the party uh I call it a party but on
13:40
the last day of the convention is when
13:42
they uh make the official nomination
13:44
he's already got it swn up so he will uh
13:46
be appearing the big question seems to
13:49
be will he announce his vice president
13:52
uh vice presidential candidate uh before
13:55
the convention or during the convention
13:56
which is my guesses uh what is probably
14:00
going to happen it it makes no sense to
14:02
announce it ahead of time but but nobody
14:04
really knows convention is about four
14:06
days and back in the day I'm going back
14:08
about 20 years every minute of the
14:11
convention used to be on American
14:13
television used to be on every Network
14:15
every minute from like 9:00 in the
14:16
morning until 11 o'clock at night it was
14:19
convention convention convention and
14:21
then you know times changed and Cable
14:24
became bigger and satellite TV and and
14:27
streaming and that sort of thing and it
14:28
it networks looked at it and said I
14:31
don't know if this is a good way of
14:32
doing things um and so right now they do
14:35
it very very selectively especially now
14:38
since everybody knows who the nominee is
14:39
going to be uh there's not going to be
14:41
any any drama to speak of at that and
14:44
Milwaukee is in a swing state and Trump
14:47
being Trump couldn't help say uh that
14:50
Milwaukee is uh not a very nice town
14:53
it's kind of a dump you know who go who
14:55
has their National Convention in a city
14:57
and your candidate says what a dump what
15:00
a what a guy I I could say more but I'm
15:04
not going to go there uh right now um
15:06
just a few more stories for us to look
15:08
out this afternoon then I think I
15:10
managed to get everything working again
15:12
apologies for looking away there but it
15:13
was all a bit slow uh for a minute or or
15:16
two this afternoon one thing we were
15:18
going to talk about the top that we
15:19
didn't manage to get to yet uh and that
15:21
was the fact that the Alec Baldwin goes
15:24
on trial this week that's three years
15:25
after that fatal rust shooting and we're
15:28
still clearing stories that we haven't
15:30
quite heard before yeah they put it off
15:32
and put it off and now they're finally
15:34
uh having his trial the woman who was
15:38
called an armorer uh someone who uh
15:41
takes care of the guns and and and
15:44
explosives on every movie Set every
15:46
television show and that sort of thing
15:47
uh kind of a kind of a crucial person um
15:51
she's already been sentenced she's got
15:52
18 months in jail um and it it's all
15:56
very tragic as we know the the director
15:58
of photog was killed the the assistant
16:01
uh director was injured in this thing uh
16:04
and people wonder why this thing has
16:06
been hung out for such a long time um I
16:09
don't really have an answer for that I I
16:11
do know as someone who has been on
16:13
numerous sets and worked in television
16:15
his whole life uh that it is the the
16:18
person who is putting the bullets in the
16:20
gun it's their job also anybody and
16:23
there are and I have I have never F
16:26
fired a pistol but I can tell you isn't
16:29
it kind of the welln you don't point a
16:32
gun at anybody indeed you know and and
16:34
the fact that he took this gun and it
16:37
doesn't matter whether he was the
16:38
director the producer it doesn't matter
16:40
you don't point a gun at somebody you
16:42
just don't and uh I think he's screwed
16:46
up on that so his his problem is not as
16:48
as the Director of the film his problem
16:50
is that he should never have done it in
16:52
the first place now whether or not he's
16:53
going to get any time I I have no idea
16:56
he might get a little bit of time for
16:58
doing this but uh uh it's it's all you
17:01
know very very very tragic and there's
17:03
going to be a lot of money exchanging
17:04
